Visual Voicemail: The Green Voicemail Icon

Android Noobtard Question: The green voicemail icon prompts me to set-up visual voicemail. Is this a Verizon thing and will be charged extra?
 
The best part of google voice is the amusingly wrong voicemail transcripts you can get. Sometimes they're relatively accurate, but I almost prefer it when they're not.

OK.. I just downloaded Google Voice and hid the green Verizon/HTC voicemail app. I was confused initially whether the green app was Google Voice.

For those that don't have Google Voice, it's fantastic. You can customize outgoing messages (1 for your mom & dad, one for you wife/gf, etc.) and also check voicemail from your computer.

Sign up for Google Voice and then there are instructions on the website. You get notifications in the bar as you would for text/emails/whatever when you have a voicemail. There are lots of other nice features of GV as well, like being able to download and save messages. The weird transcriptions are also amusing. Buncha other stuff it can do too, but that's another thread.

When I click on Visual Voicemail button in my TB is says set up VVM. I enter my pin and it takes me to a page no longer available. How do I get it to work on the TB or do I need to suscribe first. Any help appreciated. Seems like a great feature.

You also lose call waiting by forwarding missed calls to Google Voice. Its a fine tradeoff, as far as I'm concerned though. Just wish VZW would allow call routing to function a bit differently.
