SMS - Android to Android

Howdy,

Old Phone: G1 (Dream)
New Phone: Thunderbolt

The two most promising things I have found so far:

Old: Web Review Blog Archive How to import and export SMS on Android - A blog by Riccardo Raneri - Raneri Web Design

Hopeful: FJ Software Development
- SMS - archive, export, import, excessive messages,...

I've found plenty of results for iPhone to Android & Windows to Android, but I'm looking for Android to Android help.

If the 2nd link above (MyPhone Explorer) is something people here have experience with & it works, I shall try that.

If there is another way or better way, could someone please point me to that article.

Thank you in advance,

opossum

I didn't read the links, but are you looking for a way to transfer all of your SMS from 1 phone to another? Easy, if that is what you want.

Download Mybackup (I use the pro version and recommend it) on both phones. On the old phone backup data (SMS, MMS, dictionary, call log, whatever you want), make sure you back it up online.

Then on the new phone restore data using that online backup. Really easy!

Pro version:

Howdy,

That is exactly what I want & it seems like it would be so simple, however every search I did was something to Android & never Android to Android.

Thank you very much. Looking at the number of posts you have made it appears you do this in your sleep.

lol, not in my sleep. I have been a member of the site since I got my first Android phone when the original Droid was released. When I got my Droid X I really started posting a lot and helping a lot of people as I really started using Android to it's full potential.

I'm not on here as much anymore because so few people on here have a Nexus S. I am over at XDA a lot more, but I still love this site and get some information here but mostly just help people now.

Oh yeah, if you want some other great apps that are really useful check out my AppBrain link in my signature. I only have a few games but lots of useful apps I use every day

You could also use SMS Backup+

It will back up all your contacts into threaded conversations in your Gmail, then you can restore using the same app to any android device. I prefer SMS Backup+ to MyBackup because I can browse/search the conversations on my computer if I choose.

Howdy,

@chrlswltrs - I'd have bought the Nexus S launch day...in fact, that morning I was all set to go hit Best Buy when I finally noticed it didn't have an SD card slot?!?! I want storage, not to be locked in.

@XikkeN - Thanks for the alternate, I saw several programs which allowed the uploading to Gmail, however none I noticed allowed me to bring them back to a different device. I do like the idea of looking at them via Gmail.

I'm going to give MyBackup a shot first, however I may use SMS Backup+ to move them to Gmail for that feature.

I'll do this later this afternoon when I have the time.

Solution found, only read if interested.

I set my old device the G1 to use my Wi-Fi as well & downloaded MyBackup that way. Sometimes I just need to stand back a second.

Howdy,

Ok, new issue. How do I get MyBackup on to the G1 as I no longer have service to it. Yes, I should have mentioned that before.

The MyBackup site can see both phones (the Thunderbolt uses my wi-fi here at the house) & the G1 is attached via USB cable. It installed to the new one (Thunderbolt) with no problem, however when I ask it to download to the G1 which it simply lists as 'phone' it does not.

I have the apk for MyBackup (I think) on my computer. There must be a way to get it onto the G1 which doesn't have service anymore.

Thank you.
