Help Must I babysit this phone?

Newbie
Please let me explain what I mean by babysitting.

I wanted the Iphone b/c I thought it to be a quality product. But I waited it out for the Thunderbolt b/c I honestly love the Android OS and what HTC has done with it.

I was unable to purchase my phone on launch day because I was, and still am waiting for a Best Buy Gift Card in the mail (Which I want to use towards the phone) so I'm still without my thunderbolt.

What scares me is that I'm beginning to think that this is the type of phone I will have to babysit.

Must I now be conscious of the tiny gap on top so that no dust creeps into the device screen?

Must I babysit my apps and 4G toggle, GPS toggle, etc. to keep its battery up, I will have to constantly watch over it?

Kinda lame.

This is making me start to believe that apple really does make the most quality products out there, despite that it has less power.

That's the price to pay for getting the first LTE phone. I'm gonna wait til they get it all figured out.

Here's the deal.

Any product you buy could have defective this or that, or weak points. If you want to buy 'the most quality product' that Apple makes, you might want to do a google on all the defects the iPhone has. Because I assure you, it has its share of issues.

Secondly, the issues you see posted here do *not* affect all T-Bolts.

Thirdly, some are hyped up geeks (I'm a geek, I can say that) paranoid about everything, and others are legitimate issues. You are not seeing the thousands of people posting who have bought the phone and are very happy with it.

Don't let a few negative posts scare you; that's silly. Use your own judgement, but AFTER you've read the book so to speak.

For the most part, I think everyone who bought this phone is extremely happy. If anything I would say buy it and give it a test run for a week or so. If you're still unhappy then you can take it back to BB and get yourself an iPhone. Honestly though, I think after having the phone for a few days you'll fall in love like so many of us did ;)

He said he was waiting for his Best Buy gift card ;) haha regardless.. he's got time to give her a test spin, ya dig?

I was creating this thread in hopes of getting some positive feedback and I think you guys did just that. Thank you. You're right, us forum-goers are a bit more finicky and fanatical about our purchases. But the general public most likely love the phone.

I will give it a shot and see how it goes!

Cheers!

Okay, this IS a nice phone from a quality and performance standpoint.

The only real problems anybody has with it so far are:

1. The dust issue. (Today is the first I've heard of it)
2. Plugging in headphones (not a headSET) disconnects the internal mic, meaning you can't use it with your car stereo as a speakerphone.
3. battery, battery, battery.

Yes, you will have to babysit this thing - at least at first. But honestly, my Droid X was the same way for the first few days: it was in the red by lunchtime, and now I can run it all day if I need to, as long as I'm not constantly checking my e-mail or whatever. I did get the extended battery for my DX, but that was only about a 25% boost.

I'd say that this will probably always be a phone that needs some TLC. You're going to have to toggle your WiFi and 4G on and off when you need it. I'm not totally decided myself on whether I'm going to keep it, but I've decided to stick it out for a week to see how things go. Even on 3G, the web browser is MUCH faster, thanks to the faster CPU, and it is generally a more capable device. HTC just needs to fix the battery and headphone issues.
