Help WTF Gallery?

Anyone know what's up the the stock gallery in 2.2? When I use it with my camera or to fetch a picture the thing sucks the life out of my battery. I do not have nor will I install any task killers. Any resolutions/tips would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'd suck it up and install a task killer. It runs rampant on me every once in a while... I make a habit to kill tasks after I do much in the gallery. Whenever I forget, I regret it later.

I installed the JustPictures app to try to use instead of Gallery, but A)it doesnt' show videos and B)Gallery still runs when you actually use the camera.

Based on other threads, it's a common problem.

I would kill the Gallery and use QuickPic ( free on the market ) it is so much better and it lets you choose what folders to show and it doesn't screw with your battery. You can set it to default that way when you use the camera it will not open the gallery.

Second on QuickPic! Much, much better, less lag and lower battery consumption than the stock gallery. Cleaner layout without all the fancy stuff.

Task killers don't do much and don't provide the benefits that people keep claiming. If anything, task killers degrade the user experience slightly without providing any substantial benefit.

There are rare times an app may act up and needs to be forced closed. You can do this from Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications or you can use a task killer. However, pretty much everything you've seen posted about tasks in memory burning up battery and degrading performance is baloney.

Don't take my word for it. A search will turn up a bunch of articles, including:

I haven't installed it yet, but how do you set up QuickPic as the default instead of Gallery?

As far as task-killers go, I use Android Assistant, but I don't have it set to run automatically. Occasionally I open it and hit the "Quick Boost" button, which frees up some memory.
