Help Ascend Newbie w/ Questions

Hey guys, just got my Ascend the other day and stumbled upon this forum and wanted to ask some questions.

My most important question is how can I make the phone run faster? It just seems real clunky and I only downloaded 2 free apps. I mean I know I get what I pay for ($100) but I just want to know if there is a way to get it to perform at least 25% faster.

Also, how in the hell can I take an mp3 I have and throw it on my phone to use as ringtones?

Is there a good free place for ringtones/wallpapers?

For more speed look in the "all things root" area,
Root your phone and dump boingo and mpcs wifi (assuming metro) or cricket equivalent. The bloatware really slows you down.

For even more speed flash icarus. If you can follow directions it should be painless.

Any song can be set as ringtone by using the stock music player.
Find the song in your library and long press untill a menu pops up,
Select "set as ringtone"

You can clip tones to your liking using the free app "ring droid"

Most any pic can be used as a wallpaper.

Tonepicker is also a good app(Free) I once used to pick songs as my ringtones and also as my text messaging and notifications tone. I use Backgrounds 10,000 app(Free) for my backgrounds, None of them are blurry and they all fit perfectly on my phone. Everything else Toke pretty much covered.

Yea also SetCPU is really good for speeding up the phone but it kills ur battery a tad... The best thing to do is flash Icarus onto ur phone I did it the other day and its really fast abd the battery is pretty good it faster and more responsive if u wanna do that but ur a bit nervous just ask us it not that tough just just tricky on how u put the signed zip into ur sdcard but its no biggie lol

A few weeks ago I flashed Icarus and I have noticed a dramatic speed increase and smoothly running apps. If you really want a smooth fast phone then I really suggest it. I was nervous doing it at first, but now I am really glad that I did it.

Yes, Definitely. For me installing Icarus was pretty simple. It's made my phone completely different. Plus I love the looks of it really, Especially the see through slide notifications bar. This phone runs faster, I load apps quicker, Heck it even made my BOOT UP time nearly half of the original time! I'm genuinely happy with it. ^.^
