A spoofing app?

Is there an app to withhold my phone number (specifically my country code) I guess a proxy server thing.

Or if not an app, a number I can prefix so my location country remains private

Much easier to call via an IP carrier, like Voipbuster. Simple to use and the same result.

I just went on The market to download this it seems that its for free phone calls which is not what I want.

I need a program that will act as a proxy so when I phone the UK from Asia, my country ID will be withheld

Like he said, since it is not using a mobile or land line telephony network, its not coming from a specific country, therefore your country is not eluded to.

Surely though, your phone number comes from your SIM, and is the same (including country code) regardless of what country the phone is physically in?

I've made phone calls in Spain to another UK mobile also in Spain, and the calling number always came up as +44 7747....

So the only way I know if to call a UK phone and make it appear to be coming from the UK would be to get a UK SIM.
...And pay huge roaming charges.

...or just use one of the IP services already alluded to.

Yes, but what if he has an asian sim?

Um, that was kind of my point. To make a call appear to come from a different country, you need a SIM from that country. I'm pretty sure there's no (legal) way to spoof your caller ID like that.

The SIM card is from Thailand and that is where I will be phoning from. I don't want to fool anyone into thinking I am in a different country I just DON'T want them to know where I am. So its not really telling lies (I dont think)
The call needs to be made from my mobile so skype or anything involving a computer is out. I thought it might be just a simple 'call barring' type app, but maybe not :(

You can get Skype for Android, and apparently you can use it to make Skype-to-mobile/landline calls.

Otherwise the only way I think this would be possible is if your carrier has the option for you to withold your caller ID (in the same way you can with BT by adding 141 to the begining of the number as you dial).
In fact I've just tried this (I'm on T-Mobile) and adding 141 stops my number appearing on my work landline when I call it.

Edit: Googling found this: PhoneGangster.com - Anonymous Caller ID Spoofing Cards
Any good?

It is not a program that you download.
You simply call a local dedicated phone number (for example from UK to UK), the IP Carrier takes that call to the country that you need via VOIP (for example Thailand), then triggers a local call (from Thailand to Thailand). The person receiving the call sees only a local number.
For this service you pay lower rates (comparable to VOIP calls) than direct call rates.
