Help How are you dealing with the TB Battery Issue

I feel bad for all you guys with bad battery life.

My activation was quick. But I was on 3G when it was taking place. My wife activated hers on 4G and her activation didn't go so smooth. The phone seemed confused or something. Now it works great though.

You live in the same area I do. If you aren't seeing 4G problems, you will be soon.

I watched my phone go from 100% to 60% in 2 hours because of it searching for 4G. I wasn't doing anything other than occasionally turning it on to see if I had a signal lock. It's a huge problem.

If it wasn't doing this, I'm sure I'd be getting 10 or so hours of battery and I'm fine with that.

Going from 100% to 60% in 2 hours is either user caused or your phone is defective. My phone searches for a 4G signal all day and lasts more than 12 hours with quite a bit of use(90 mins of web browsing, 4 hours of pandora, couple texts) and only drops a bit below 50% on the stock battery.

If your phone was searching for 4G all day in the way I'm talking about, you wouldn't be able to browse the web or stream Pandora. With this kind of issue, you don't get any data connectivity at all.

That's not to say this handset isn't possibly defective, just that we're not seeing the same kind of issue with 4G.

I'm confused by what you mean. If the phone isn't getting any data connection at all and is just searching for it, there is no way it should be dropping 40% in 2 hours, no way at all.

It looks like it connects, flickers the upload/download arrows, then disconnects. It reconnects and the cycle starts again. This cycle takes about 2-3 seconds. While this is going on, the phone starts to get hot, so something is chewing through battery.

If I understood what the tech I spoke to was hinting at, it sounded like 4G is oversubscribed on some nodes. The problem is the phone sees it has good signal, but doesn't understand the oversubscription, so it keeps trying to connect. Since it thinks it should have 4G coverage, the phone never kicks down to 3G.

I was asked to wait till the weekend to see if the network issues get resolved. If I still see the same thing, then I'll assume I have a bum unit and get it exchanged.

That could probably do it. I've never seen something like that where the connection is rapidly being established and lost.

I went to verizon and mentioned the same issue. I did it just because I'm desperate to get better battery because I really want to love this phone.

IF the battery doesnt get better in a day I will call verizon and make them create a ticket to check my area.

I bump charged my phone like 5 times to get all juice out of my battery as I could. After 5-7 mins with zero use it wasl already down 10%. Its been 1hr40mins and already down 16%. I'm monitoring this closely to see if it changes and also to hush up the skeptics saying we're exaggerating the terrible battery.

BTW, down 16% with only 1 call for 15mins and 1 text sent. No other use other than verizon rep for 30 secs checking my setting and noticing they were fine.

The data tech had me pull the battery and wait for 30 seconds then put it back in and boot back up. It seemed to lock 4G, so I'll check battery usage after it charges to 100% again.

I've found that the max I get on this phone is 3hours of Internet usage. VerizonWireless made this a "must buy accessories" package, unfortunately.

Just an update. I had 95% battery when I had to run off to a meeting. I did a couple of texts, email through Gmail app, and web surfing for 30 mins while I sat in the meeting. I had a solid 4G symbol the whole time even though I only had 1 bar of reception. I checked the battery and I was down to 93% battery. At that rate of drain, I'd have an approximate 24 hour charge. This is more than acceptable to me.

So if you have 4G stability issues and it's burning through your battery, try pulling the battery and waiting 30 seconds. This seems to have cleared up my issue. If you continue to see the 4G bounce, turn off 4G until they get the network cleaned up.

Very accurate description. Around my house I seemed to be having issues, but around town a mile away and at school and at verizon corporate store 3 miles out I get great service. I honestly dont think its my phone and that is why I have held on to it for now. I get constant 4g signal and when I browse the internet it frequently drops the connection and takes 2 seconds to come back again and it will drop again and sometimes it doesn't do that. But at school today it was working great, I have submitted a support ticket and they will be looking in to it. I am suppose to get a response, I got a text message today telling me to check the connection in my home area, and it had not improved. I dont know if I could send a message back, seemed like they were looking for a response so I messaged back, lol. The message was delivered.

The reason it doesn't go to 3g is because I am in the dead center of the 4g map. I have to manually switch to 3g to get reliable connection at home. It wasn't like this at home the first day I got service, seems like something happened the last few days.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the real problem. I live in Central PA and only have 3g. Besides the first day or so, I have been consistently getting 11-12 hours of battery life even with moderate to heavy use. Today I got ten, but that is because I had 3g mobile hotspot turned on for an hour or so to let my friends with an iPod Touch and an iPad 2 have internet access. Lol they were amazed at the hotspot capability. Apple fans lol.

for what it's worth, my entire city is 4g (per verizon's coverage map). i had no data connection of any kinda all day at work. i was sitting on "1x" the whole flippin' day. i came home, rebooted, and everything is working again.

sad news I was able to use 3g, and now my phone is not even connecting to 3g manually. I dont know what the hell is going on. It connects to 4g which constantly drops at my house and 3g was working superb but now I dont even see the 3g signal. hopefully restarting the phone will help.

OH thank god. I think the switching back and forth wasn't working. After restarting it is fine.

UPDATE: I am really starting to think this is nothing but network problems. For the last 30 mins I have browsing the web inside my house and I have only seen the 4g symbol go away once. No dropouts or anything, the browsing is fast and it has been the best service I have gotten in days inside my house. Hopefully they get this things ironed out soon. Hopefully it will stay this way.

No 4G issues in Pittsburgh. Steady as can be. We'll see how it progresses as more activate...

Monitoring it closely = the screen is on a lot. The display is the #1 (by far) consumer of my battery life, according to battery usage, and I have 4G on. Not saying you're not having 4G issues, but that's one extra thing that's probably contributing.

That might help, but that can only do so much. they're fooling themselves if they think thats the solution. The solution was put a 1800mah battery in this phone.

So sure we can be optimistic that will fix the problem, but the reality is it will make a minimal impact on battery life. 1400mah battery in a beast of a phone is going to kill battery quickly and nothing they can do about it on the "backend"

Searching for service (regardless of what type) is way more of a battery killer that you'd expect. My old dumbphone could last days without a charge, until I went to my parents house, where service was spotty, and there it could go from 100% to shutting off in (literally) 45 minutes.

This is most stable connection I have gotten inside my house since the first two days I got it. I think may be my ticket is actually being looked at, lol. For the last hour I have been hooked on this device and got like one dropout for a second and ever since it has been flawless. My display uses the most battery, I think by default auto brightness is way too high everytime you are using the phone. I think 30-40% is more then enough for everyday use. I hope they fix the auto brightness. My phone seems like its at 70-80% when I am using it.

LOL so much for stable connection, haha. I was browsing straight for like an hour and half and I put my phone an stand by to go get a snack came and and it started dropping again, lol. I am really thinking verizon is really doing something funny with 4g. Interesting the phone finally switched over to 3g on its own, oh my. I am on 3g now, it never handed off to 3g before, I dont know if I should take that as positive or a negative.

I honestly believe things are getting better though, I will try to stay positive.

This is my "Numero Uno" complaint about all of these battery saving tips.

To translate for everyone else, "Use your phone in a completely different manner in which you would really, really like to use it and VIOLA!!" you now can get infinite battery life.

I'm not slamming on you tbrooks. And if that works for you and your happy with it, then by all means go for it and great job.

But I bought a phone that is supposed to be capable of doing things that my HTC Eris would not, and damnit I want it to do those things.

EDIT: My true test will be when I hit the golf course and run SkyDroid. The Eris would make it a full round on a full charge but it would be on the verge of kicking the bucket.

I used skydriod the other day and played 9. It used about %20 of battery in 1 1/2 hours. I will say that is the best $2 I have spent in a long time. Great app.

At first, my battery wouldn't last longer than 8 hours, but after I "bump" charged it (charge it to 100% when off, then turn it on to see it's fully charged, then unplug it for a few minutes to see how much it drains and charge it with the phone on to go to 100%) to train the phone how to do a full charge, it was fine. Moreover, I was only getting 1 or 2 bars for 4G, but now I have full bars. I'm not sure if the two are related, but I'll do further testing to see how long the battery lasts in a 4G area.

To be honest with you I dont think that has anything to do with it. I think its just verizon trying to work on their 4g network. Plus from what I heard from the tech support the bars are only for voice not for data. Which is true because if I have no data connection I do get crystal clear calls.

To update my last nights comments. I can actually say now that my 4g service in the house seems to have improved. Before I couldn't even browse the net without getting constant drops in 4g. I do get drops but may be 1 every 30 mins or so. I can live with that. Much Much better then what it was 2 days ago.

called VZW finally and got passed tier 1 support (they asked me to pull the battery AND sim card). i explained my data connection constantly moves in/out of 4g but does not revert to 3g or 1x (3g/1x would still send/receive data with my ERIS), it simply stay off, so i cannot even send/receive data at all

got to the next level support. they told me it was a problem in Cali, but I mentioned that since the release of the phone this has been happening. so the tech person proceeded to ask me to check the my setting under 'about phone' > 'software info' > 'PRL version'. he indicated that i should read the numbers in this PRL version. I read it to him, but he indicated it was supposed to be 5 digits, but i had only 1 single digit

he then informed me the unreliable data connection/constant reconnecting issue was likely a SIM card issue. asked me to take it to a VZW store to switch it out for a new SIM.

i've read other posts about people getting a new SIM and their connection being more reliable after (hope so)

i'll report as soon as i get my hands on the new SIM and let yall know if any better

i live in los angeles, a 4g covered area

I highy doubt it. I have seen people still have issues after changin out sim. I had the. Same issue in my house but since yesterday my connection has been so much better. I am happy now u can say lol. I was almost about to return the phone. If u are getting constant drops everywhere then u might have an issue other then network.
