Working Netflix app on Android.

I still think this was funny that they called it a "leak" and auto updated to make it work.... Good PR skillz those netflix people have.

I bet that the amazon app store pays to snatches up a week or two worth of exclusivity when this thing comes out for real... assuming they, or Netflix, has a method of filtering which types of devices are able to download/run it (It will probably have to be on the Netflix end).

Ah bummer, so much for my conspiracy theory. :(

No it is a conspiracy. This was to show us that netflix can work for most phones. That way when they release the final app there will be many many downloads...taking off the tin foil hat now

It's working on my Incredible as I type this BUUUUT, no streaming damn it! When you are referring to "shut down" are you referring to streaming? Did the streaming actually work for some??

Ok, I just read 37 pages over at xda and now I feel like an ass.

I KNOW NOW IT DOES NOT STREAM ANYMORE! ; )

For those of you who got it working (I was late to the party), how did the streaming work? Do you choose multiple resolutions, or does it automatically detect your network speed?

Sorry for those that didn't experience the hour of netflix lol, but it did work well. From what I could tell, it scaled the stream quality depending on your network speeds.

Lol I just skipped to the last page and saw someone flaming someone else along the lines of "you obviously didn't read the last 30+ posts saying it didn't work.." So I figured I didnt need to read the hundreds of posts.

Really netflix's arguement that they have to work with each manufacturer to get the app working with each phone due to fragmentation is BS. It seems to me they are just trying to stay in the good graces of apple. I know devs have to get people to test apps and make changes to make sure it works on different phones but devs do not have to create a different app for each phone.

Nah they have to stay in the good graces of the production companies. Simply put, they feel that android is too easy to "hack" without the build in DRM and that people can download their streams. And if that were to happen they risk the production companies pulling their content from Netflix.

I'm not too keen on how DRM works exactly however I know there are apps that use DRM on android currently, seems like they would just need to program this in the app.

Got a really cool Rep today on the phone that assured me its coming and that there should be an announcement soon

heh well they've been saying that since November http://blog.netflix.com/2010/11/netflix-on-android.html ;)

Doubt we will hear anything on this till after May. I have a buddy that works with verizon and hes heard talks when he does for training and they say streaming wont happen till 4g kicks in in more places. 3g will get too cluttered up and bogged down with everyone streaming videos. With 4g there should be no problem.

But amazon has their own netflix like service. Netflix would have to really want to stick it to google if they made it exclusive to Amazon.
