"Must have" apps for the Thunderbolt

Angry Birds Seasons/Rio
Lookout (thanks to this thread)
Poynt
Shooter (ballistics program)
Reticle Ranger
Speed Anatomy (cool anatomy app)
Tip calculator
Fandango

There are MANNNYYY threads about this already. Search and use those, as you're bound to get answers there.

ChromeToPhone is amazing. Don't overlook it just because you use FireFox. Search for Fox to Phone and you can install the plugin and use it with your FF browser. :D

I have searched to no avail. Your answer is then...?

Is there an app that lets you build flight itineraries and track flight(s) status (real time) - sort of like that feature on Viigo for blackberry? What was great on Viigo was the app would hold the flights you entered so you could quickly and easily re-check up on flight status over time. I am sure there is something(s) like this in android but wondered if anyone knows which is best. T.I.A.

I still never quite understood how to use Google talk or voice...

I don't use Talk but I like Voice. Google has made Google Voice a bit "unapproachable" indeed. Keep in mind you DO NOT have to sign up for a Google phone number. Some features of GV are missing if you don't but no must haves are missing IMHO. Thus I do not have a google phone number.

Think of GV as free visual voicemail (view and listen to vm's in the order you want). You get a visual app for vm. On top of that you can also manage your voicemail account from your computer with a web browser. You also get free vm voice to text translation both on phone and computer. GV certainly does a lot more than these things but for me this is the "core". Give it a try, you can certainly turn it on and off at will.

SwiftKey is free on the Amazon Appstore today: Amazon.com: SwiftKey Keyboard: Appstore for Android

I'm trying it out instead of Swype and so far it's pretty decent. Supposedly the learning curve is higher than Swype but has the potential to be faster with it's predictive text/sentence capabilities.
Have you tried Better keyboard or Smart keyboard Pro? If yes, how do these three compare? I am not having any troubles with the stock keyboard but so many options has me wondering (new to Android and HTC).

On another subject - anyone know if/how to turn off the bloat apps that are always running and polling - like Stock, News, City ID, Music, VZ Navigator, FM Radio and others? I know I can manually kill them (I use Advanced Task Killer ONLY on Manual mode) but they re-open. :(
T.I.A.

Some that I use are

  • App 2 SD Pro - Save time letting me know the apps that can go to the SD card and cleans the cache for me
  • Astro Pro - Alreade mentioned in this post.
  • Audio Manager Pro - Keep control of the sounds.
  • Better Keyboard 8
  • Camera 360 Ultimate
  • Dropbox
  • Evernote
  • Gmail
  • Gmail label notifier
  • k-9 Mail
  • Newsroom
  • Picsay pro
  • Player Pro
  • Swiftkey
  • TuneIn radio
  • Trillian
  • Tweetdeck
  • Plume
  • Vignette
  • Winamp
  • Tapatalk Pro
And a few more.

Pret - how does AP SD 2 PRO compare to the free version Ap SD 2? what additional features in the Pro version? EDIT - never mind, found it, free version has ads and Pro version is no ads.

Just curious, why are you running both Better keyboard 8 and Swiftkey? do you use them for different apps? Still trying to get a handle on the many alternate keyboards.

I mentioned just a few of the apps I am using. About the keyboard applications, I am using Swiftkey at the moment. I have Better Keyboard, Gingerbread Keyboard, and Smart Keyboard Pro installed as well. Just like to change between keyboards, not using any of them for a particular reason.

I'm new to Android as well just coming from an LG env3 so I'm having a lot of fun customizing and researching apps. I've only tried Swype and now SwiftKey so I don't have much insight. However, there a good review round up at Android Central: Android Central's Keyboard Roundup | Android Central . I would grab SwiftKey now while it's free and sign up for the Swype beta. Although I think I have the EVO version of Swype .apk that someone linked because the Swype beta was not inserting spaces in SMS. Definitely give Swype a try!

DoubleTwizt - music player, sync iTunes
SMS Popup - displays a popup notification of the full message instead of just the notification bar.
RingGuard - Prompts for comfirmation when changing the ring volume with the rocker buttons.
Widgetsoid - customizable widgets for displaying battery life, turn wifi/gps on/off, adjust screen brightness etc. You can also add a shortcut icon to an app
AlarmDroid - flip phone over to snooze!!
Opera Mobile - You can have more windows open than stock which I like, but I don't notice a speed increase over stock really.
Phone info - Enable/disable 4g
Chrome to Phone - send links in Chrome to your phone.
XM Note - 4x4 notepad widget
Calendar Pad - widget for displaying my calendar, I've tried many and I like the formatting/layout of this calendar widget the best.

I have more such as games etc. but I find these to be my most useful apps that I probably spent more time finding/researching than I should have :D. The only thing I'm trying to find now is a good news/RSS reader 4x4 widget. I tried Pulse out but I want something more in the format of Google News. Any suggestions?

FYI, paid version of SwiftKey is available for free today on the Amazon appstore.

Before using SwiftKey, I was using Smart Keyboard Pro (I settled on Smart Keyboard Pro, after trying Better Keyboard).
I personally think that Smart Keyboard Pro is the best keyboard in the Android market, however - I got SwiftKey from the Amazon App Store for free today, and am giving it a try. It is a VERY close second, as of now...

I forgot two more "must have" apps, for me:
Gentle Alarm $ - I haven't any other alarm clock app, but this one is AMAZING. I LOVE the presets, and the "pre-alarm" alarm, option. This app has some AMAZING customization tools and options.
SwitchPro Widget $ - THE first widget that goes on my homescreen (The ONLY widget that is good enough to share the homescreen with my Fancy Widgets Sense-like flip clock)

Has anyone tried Easy Tether? It says that you do not need to be rooted to use this application for tethering.

Just curious if anyone has tried this. I would, but I still do not have my TB which will arrive FedEx on Monday.

Thanks,
Dennis

I may catch hell for this, but I would submit that Go Launcher EX is better than LauncherPro. It's faster and has almost all of the features of LP+ with the exception of the widgets.

Very True I was up for Launcher pro all the time and I actually was in the market yesterday and gave go launcher a shot, told myself what the hell? I give other apps a try all the time why not do it for one that almost has 5 stars.

I am love with this launcher, I mean it feels like a whole new os. the swipe effects are smooth as butter. I got Go sms, Go weather(just damn Beautiful) and go launcher ex to all go along.

I might be second one to be hated, lol, but this launcher hands down beats any launcher on market right now. I am paid member of launcher pro bandwagon but I am not going back anytime soon.
