Why No Kickstand??

I don't watch videos, it is a phone, which I use to make calls, read email and look things up on the web for work. I don't have time during the day to watch videos and I have an awesome entertainment system when I get home!:D

I do use it as an alarm clock, but I just lay it on the nightstand next to the bed.:p

Add me to this list. I'm on campus all day so if I need to watch a video, I pull out my computer. When I heard iPods could play videos and everyone was excited I couldn't believe it. I guess I'll never be okay with watching a video on that small of a screen.

At the very least, I hope they come out with an awesome case for the kickstand lovers. But, being a person who will not use it, I am glad it won't come stock with the phone.

You've never pulled out your phone for a youtube video or wanted to watch it on a plane? I can get where being a student sort of changes your views on tech, but you have to understand that the majority of Americans don't tote around their laptops everywhere they go, nor do they have wifi surrounding them as they do on a college campus.

That kickstand is also great for allowing your evo to double as an alarm clock.

Beleive me, I am the first to admit that losing the kickstand isn't going to be a dealbreaker, but different people have different lifestyles (and are in different agegroups). Unless you work at a desk, I bet your perspectives on viewing things on your phone will change once you attain your degree! ;)

I think I maybe watched 2-3 YouTube videos total on the DInc and even then I am pretty sure I cut it short. I carry around an HP TouchSmart 2 and for the next 1.5/2 years it is just way easier to pull that out and watch something. Even when I am not on campus (and you are correct, I think our wifi literally covers 7 sq. miles at least) I always just pulled out the DInc or D1 and used wireless tether. Even on the plane, I still always have a laptop with me :)

As for alarm clock, I would die if I didn't have an alarm on my phone. But, I either have the phone charging and just laying down or under my pillow.

Well to each his own then bud. I definitely see having to tether a phone to my laptop to watch a quick video (note I am not saying movies here...) as far more of a hassle than it is worth. I expect the general consensus would be about the same. Most people simply don't carry their laptops everywhere. :)

You're completely right. For YouTube it may not be as quick but I don't watch those :)

i don't think you need a kickstand to watch a 3 minute you tube video lol.
for those of you that are watching movies at work... shame on you!
alarm clock... big deal just lay it down and it will still wake you up :)

if you really use it that often in kickstand mode then get a dock for your desk or nightstand and be happy.

I suppose this can be argued about any length video, really. I find it handy to set it on a table, especially when it's more than just me using it. NEED? Of course not. But it is convenient.

This is kinda interesting because I've only seen the kickstand debate when the Evo came out and just recently during the Thunderbolt pre-release discussions.

I'm surprised - and educated - by the level of controversy because we're all experienced now.

So - I'm turning my soft opinion into a hard vote - I'm liking that the kickstand is an option.

That way, no one that hates it is stuck with it, and those that want it can have it.

Yes - sucks to be part of a case - but I think I don't care because I like adding some thickness to deal with those protruding lenses - part of the reason I put a case on my Evo.

What I don't like about what I've seen and imagined from the kickstand case photos is how it differs from the Thunderbolt. The Bolt's kickstand is designed to let it stand reliably in portrait or landscape - something we called out on page one of the Evo 2 thread (Evo forum).

Just not seeing it work in portrait mode in my mind.

I'm amazed HTC didn't think of a clip-on kickstand. You don't need a whole case, just a sheet of metal to be the stand and two pieces of plastic to clip it to the phone. Heck, I bet I could jury-rig one out of my Evo 4G kickstand. :D

Agreed. We should go out and do a SRS of EVO owners and see who uses the kickstand and who doesn't and see what the ratio is. I don't like that TBOLD kickstand either.

I think even the naysayers would ba happier if they could buy something that had the kickstand incorporated into a different back. I think the issue is less that it doesn't come with one and more that it requires an entire case to incorporate.

I will have a case, so that personally isn't an issue for me. My gripe is that, from the looks of it, the kickstand/case combo won't allow for charging while standing. THIS I certainly don't like.

I feel like a "stock" back could have been made by incorporating a kickstand that frames the cameras. It's hard to judge being that I have only seen pics, but it seems like it could be done. This would obvisouly add weight, but it would keep people happy regarding girth, since it wouldn't protrude any more than the cameras already do.

The problem with a kickstand on this phone is that the cord will be coming out of the top (side) and not the bottom of the phone like the EVO 4G.

It will be awkward looking. So I won't be getting the accessory that has a kickstand for this reason.

The official kickstand case seems to have a reversible kickstand, to accommodate charging while viewing.

How would that work? It would then be coming out of the opposite side of the phone with it going down. Unless you move the phone to the edge of the desk or surface that would be very inconvenient.

Maybe I'm just not understanding what you mean.

I suppose it could have a kick stand with the phone going vertical but then that would eliminate the purpose.

There's a pic of the updated case (the one in this thread is older) and it shows the kickstand with 2 tabs on the side of it. Kind of like the tabs of a card table. If you pull these tabs down, it would seem that the hinge is retracted and the kickstand can be attached to the other side with the same process. This would result in the dedicated camera button being on the bottom and the charge plug on top. It's only an observation from the picture and may not be what actually exists in real life. But it's very likely that it'd be reversible, IMO.

With the larger battery and it being moved south to make room for the second camera, there appears to be no room for the kick stand. Maybe we can borrow one from the crApple guys? :D

No way am I sticking an Apple toilet plunger on my new E3D

With a dock coming out, do you really need a kickstand? I can watch movies with the EVO in its docking station. Kill 2 birds with one stone if you ask me.
