Ok, so I updated via Kies Mini yesterday and I am seeing something that concerns me. My battery life is draining much more quickly than on 2.1. Any ideas why this might me and what I can do to fix it?

Not necessarily. I'm running a rooted 2.2 and its not any better than what everyone here is describing. I'm not running any custom kernels, just the stock 2.2 with root access.
I would suggest that you have a couple of options:
1. Root the phone, load Titanium Backup, freeze some apps you definitely don't use. Level of improvement=slight or possibly not noticable.
2. Root the phone, flash a custom ROM and/or custom kernel that addresses the battery life issue. (I have not checked XDA in a while, no idea if there are any available yet for the "official" release) Level of improvement=unknown
3. Learn to live with it until there is another official firmware update. Level of improvement=none
4. Downgrade to 2.1. Level of improvement=battery life improves, other functionality does not.
I called US cellular and they said Juice defender will solve the problem......hmmmmmmmm
Any feedback on this program?
my battery life was worse than 2.1 but not horrible, i could still get thru a whole day but i'd have less battery left than i'd like. so i downloaded juice defender and it works quite good. i have 30 percent battery left and it's been unplugged for 15 hours. did a decent amount of texting and 20 min of calling, 8 hours of it were in a low signal area. than spent an hour and a half browsing the web and reading rss feeds. so i'm pretty happy with juice defender, but want to really test it out on a normal day. accidently left an app running that drained the battery a decent amount and sometimes leave the browser up which keeps 3g on as well being in low service areas. battery life seems very good with me.'
EDIT: only downside to juice defender is you won't get emails until the data turns back on. which for me is usually ok
