Free VoIP Calling Using Google Voice + Sipdroid

Did you first delete your existing account through the pbxes.org website, I believe under Personal Data?

I should rephrase. I can make a new account, but even with the trunk deleted from my original account, I cannot, either through Sipdroid or pbxes.org add a GTALK trunk to a new account. I've made 3 so far, and i get some weird error on Sipdroid, and on pbxes.org, when I click submit, the page that loads is just the top banner of the site. When I check my trunk list, I have none. I assume it's an issue with the website.

I have tried to follow the instructions from the first post but I am not able to make or recieve calls from SipDroid.

I have a gmail account with google voice. I have google voice set to forward calls to my gchat account and not my mobile number.

I installed google voice app on my phone. I can make calls using GV app no problem if I have it set up.

I installed sipdroid on my phone. I click the 'New PBX linked to my Google Voice' button. It correctly shows my Google Voice Name. It chooses the name part of my email address for the PBXes Name automatically.

Now here is where it gets interesting.
The instructions say to first enter my Google Voice account password and then any password I want to for the next password field for the pbxes.org account. This doesn't work, because it wants them to be the same thing.

Fine, I will make them the same. It then complains that I have invalid characters in my PBX name and to use lower case. Well, I only have lower case, but I suspect it's because of the period in the name. So i remove it and try again, again with the same password in both fields and the same password as my GV account.

That works. I can login to pbxes.org, but there is nothing in the trunk section for gtalk. I understand thats really only important for receiving calls, which isn't a big deal to me just yet. But why can't I use SipDroid to make calls? Do I need to change anything in the SipDroid settings beyond the default stuff? Like I don't have anything in the SIP Account Line1 or 2, is that needed?

Any help would be appreciated.

exact same thing here. when i try to register through sipdroid it gives me an error and the gtalk trunk doesnt show up. so i delete the account and start over with the same result. tries 5 times.

i have set this up on 4 other devices without issue.

Wonder if PBXes put the kibosh on it seeing that adding a google trunk is technically a paid account feature.. ? Maybe we're starting to overload their servers with our new unlimited ultra awesome replace our phone free calls?

When I try to get it link the GV to SiPDROID it tells me the capacity has been reached and that auto account creating has been disabled. SO I tried to set up the trunk extension inbound and outbound manually and I got the green light and all but as soon as I make a call it hangs up immediately. Im thinking they have run out of bandwidth due to the overwhelming amount of people joining.

pbxes.org was unreachable yesterday afternoon (my time) for 2 or 3 hours. When it DID come back up, I, too, got the auto account creation disabled message.

We must have broken it! :\

Good. I posted something on the Sipdroid Forum as well (but it hasn't been moderated yet). Maybe we can get our beloved service back soon! :)

Creation of PBXes accounts

The "Create Free Account" button had to be temporarily removed until more spare capacity will be added to the PBXes platform in May 2011. However, it is still possible to create free accounts manually at the PBXes website, but adding Google™ Voice trunks requires a paid account at this time. Existing users are not affected by the change.

Damn. I deleted my account/Google Voice trunk yesterday in an attempt to get things working again. What, exactly, is a "paid account"? I see different levels of "paid"... Maybe any of them qualify...

And are they saying that things will be free again in May 2011?

Okay, I now have a "Soho" subscription with pbxes.org.

I have a GTALK Trunk set up with my username ("GTALK/bingo@gmail.com" [fake]) and the password for that Google Account.

I have an Outbound Routing set up: Route name: "default" Trunk Sequence: "0 GTALK/bingo@gmail.com" Set destination: "Valid for all numbers"

In my Sipdroid app (on my phone) under Settings/SIP Account/Authorization Username: bingo-200 and Password: the same password as my GTALK trunk

I get a perpetual Red Dot on my status bar: "bingo-200@pbxes.org Registration failed (404 Not found)

This is getting really annoying; what do I need to change??

In my Sipdroid app (on my phone) under Settings/SIP Account/Authorization Username: bingo-200 and Password: the same password as my GTALK trunk

Settings/SIP Account/Password should be the same password you find at pbxes.org/Extensions/Sipdroid<200>

Okay. I'm gettin' closer to getting this working...

Because I'd previously used Sipdroid to automatically set up my pbxes.org account/trunk/whatever, I'm kind of stumbling around in the dark now that I have to set up my account MANUALLY (because of their "no more automatic free account setup" policy).

As a note to myself--and possible help to others struggling like I am--here's what I've done so far:

1. I went to the pbxes.org website and created an account: "bingo", with the password "pswd27" [fake, obviously]

2. I subscribed to the Soho level Account [and waited the 3 days for my PayPal account to be 'verified']

3. Under pbxes.org -> Trunks -> Add Trunks - I selected "Add Google Voice Trunk". In the screen "Add GTALK Trunk / Account / username: I entered "bingo@gmail.com". For password: I put "pswd27". I left everything else blank on that page.

4. Under pbxes.org -> Outbound Routing -> Add Route Route Name: "default". Trunk Sequence: "GTALK/bingo@gmail.com". I don't know if I need anything else in any of the other fields.

5. Under pbxes.org -> Extensions -> Add Extension -> SIP - Extension number: "200" Device options/password: "pswd27". Again, I didn't know how to fill out the other fields on this page. [thx to jj2me for telling me about this (previous post [#213])]

6. At my Google Voice site, under Settings -> Phones I have forwarded calls to "Google Chat" for my account: "bingo@gmail.com"

I now no longer have the Dreaded Red Dot on my status bar (thx again to jj2me!). But I'm not yet able to make outgoing calls via Sipdroid on my cell phone: I get the recording that says, "Your call cannot be completed as dialed; please try again later." It wouldn't surprise me if I still have something I need to configure/complete/modify in my pbxes.org account.

Can anyone tell me what I might be missing at this point? Do I need, for example, to set up an "Incoming Route"? (Us noobs could use a really good step-by-step tutorial...!)

(And I'd appreciate it if someone could explain why I'm spending so much time trying to get this "free internet calls" thing working--and paying $5.45 a month for the privilege!! ;-D )

So are they no longer offering the free PBX accts to make through SIPDroid?

Apparently not until they can add more capacity? They're saying May, 2011?:

First, I would try dialing a 1 prefix like PSkeptic says here. Maybe that will work?

I didn't have to set much up at pbxes.org, the sipdroid app on the phone filled in a lot. So I can only transcribe what I see now in my pbxes.org account.

3. Under pbxes.org -> Trunks -> Add Trunks - I selected "Add Google Voice Trunk". In the screen "Add GTALK Trunk / Account / username: I entered "bingo@gmail.com". For password: I put "pswd27". I left everything else blank on that page.
Gtalk trunk username/password are similar to yours.
Dial rules box has these five pre-populated lines:
+|.
011|.
00|.
1+nxxnxxxxxx
49+0|.

Outbound dial prefix is blank.

4. Under pbxes.org -> Outbound Routing -> Add Route Route Name: "default". Trunk Sequence: "GTALK/bingo@gmail.com". I don't know if I need anything else in any of the other fields.
Outbound Routing - I didn't add a route, this info was just there.

I have a "0 Gtalk" entry under Outbound Routing. Clicking that, it shows
- route name of "Gtalk".
- trunk sequence similar to yours.
- everything else is blank.

5. Under pbxes.org -> Extensions -> Add Extension -> SIP - Extension number: "200" Device options/password: "pswd27". Again, I didn't know how to fill out the other fields on this page. [thx to jj2me for telling me about this (previous post [#213])]
Under Extensions, I have a "Sipdroid <200>" entry, clicking that, it shows
- Display Name of "Sipdroid"
- Under Webcall, everything is blank (though URL shows http://pbxes.org/ before the edit box).
- Device Options, which shows, in your terms:
--- username bingo-200
--- password [pbxes populated this - I wasn't clear about this before, as I took the pre-populated Extension's password and put that in the Android app's password--you did the reverse. I'm guessing that this shouldn't matter.]
--- language [shouldn't matter, mine is english]
--- dtmfmode auto
--- audio bypass no
--- dial SIP/bingo-200

- Options: all blank
- Call Forwarding: all blank except "If No Answer:" shows a first box blank, but the "after seconds" box shows a value of 20
- Voicemail & Directory: Enabled
--- voicemail password: empty
--- email address: bingo@gmail.com
--- the next 5 have "no" selected
--- vm options: "tz=America/Atikokan"

Thanks for taking the time to post all of that info. It was very valuable. Except for the voicemail settings, my settings were the same.

Unfortunately, while I still have my green dot, I'm also still getting the same "The number you have dialed cannot be completed at this time. Please try your call again later." response when attempting to make an outgoing call.

Where I live we already have to dial a "1" before the number, so I've been trying that all along. I also tried adding a "+" in front of the number--and at the end of the number, but that made no difference.

I managed to get it working! For those that may be experiencing the same problem, here's what I tried:

A week ago, I put the new "2-Step Verification" process into effect on my Google Account. There is an option within that to generate "Application-Specific Passwords". When I generated one for "Sipdroid", and plugged it into the PBXes.org-> Setup -> Extensions -. Sipdroid <200> -> Device Options -> Password AND PBXes.org-> Setup -> Trunk -> GTALK/bingo@gmail.com -> password I got the red dot back.

I went back in and reverted the "Extension" password to the 'main' password for the account (the one I would use, for example, when logging into GMail)--but left the TRUNK password stay as the new 'application-specific password' (the one I generated as part of the new "2-step verification".

So: Extension = Main Password GTALK TRUNK = new 'app-specific password' generated by Google as part of their new '2-step verification process.

When I tried to make an outgoing call--it went through! :D

I don't understand yet WHY this fixed the problem I was having--but the couple of calls I made sounded great.

Given that the pbx subscription I signed up for is costing me $5.45 per month, I'll have to decide if it's worth the money for 2,000 minutes worth of talk time. (That's pretty cheap per minute!) I get 300 talk minutes as part of my Virgin Mobile plan--but I think you can only buy add'l minutes in $10 chunks?

So far, this was mostly a "proof-of-concept" for me: Could I get it to work at all--and if I did, how well would it work...

Hmmm... Now I'll have to see if I can RECEIVE calls via Sipdroid/GTALK... ;)

I managed to get it working!

I am now unable to receive calls to my cell phone when my Google Number is dialed. It rings once and then hangs-up.

If I UNcheck Google Voice -> Settings -> Phones -> Forward to Google Chat , then the phone WILL ring properly when calling the Google Number.

Does that mean something is configured improperly at pbxes, or...??

I just got an email saying they deleted my pbx acct.

WHY would they do this? This really pisses me off. Now I have no way to make VOIP calls.

Greetings,
I had this all set up in USA with Google Voice, sipdroid and PBXES.com working perfectly. Now that I am in the Netherlands it originally worked, then quit, worked again then quit again. I had to reconfigure pbxes as they had an issue and switched their website to ww4. instead ow ww2. I think it still redirects if you use www2. It still registers on the phone, strong wifi and the calls register at pbxs but no ring, no call. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Thanks,
StillHacking

Same thing happened to me. I know they are having capacity issues, and I can understand why they would dump non-paying customers if service quality levels were effecting paying customers.

Having said that, they did send me an e-mail about a week and a half ago about how my personal information was not up to date. AND if I did not update the information, my account would be deleted. This is around the same time service was getting bad and they pulled the PBXes.org link from the sipdroid app home screen. I know my personal information was not up to date or even present, because my account was automatically created for me.

I went into PBXes.org and corrected/added all my personal information, because I didn't want them to delete my account. Again, I did this over a week and a half ago.

Fast forward to this morning and guess what? I got the same e-mail riffdex got. My account was deleted. Guess what? No support or means to contact PBXes.org, because I am not a paying customers. All free accounts are now blocked from linking a Google/talk/voice account until they can expand their services.

I would say it was a pretty underhanded way to fix their capacity issues, but then again, I don't pay for the service. BUT AT LEAST THEY COULD HAVE BEEN HONEST ABOUT IT.

Sorry, long story long, but I went in and created a new account with the same credentials, username, and password and guess what? All my information is there there. I can make outbound calls, but inbound doesn't seem to work. Also, I have duplicate information in my account, ex. like routing and extension.

I'm nervous to delete anything, since at least half of the service works.

Anyone else?

And just for an update...

I deleted the duplicate inbound route and it deleted both routes, not just the duplicate. I then recreated the inbound routing. I took good notes.

I then deleted the extension and it deleted both extensions, not just the duplicate. I then recreated the extension including the "display name" and "extension", ex. "fred-200".

All is well, inbound and outbound working fine.
