Paying for ALL apps

Hi

whilst looking at an app demo on youtube, the presenter gave an off the cuff remark that from july this year ALL apps for android were going to be purchase only..

Is this true ?

Cheers

Rich

Doubt it, you almost have to try to find a pay app (exaggerated I know). Anyway, it seems very unlikely that this will happen.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the whole open source thing.

Exactly, I was reading along waiting for someone to mention that. As long as we have Open Source developers, say like Mozilla (FireFox), most apps will remain free. There will always be fee base apps, that's just part of the business.

Check the date one the video "October 23rd, 2008." When the G1 was released Android was still considered beta and every app was free up until last year which is what the review is referring to.

Yep, she didnt actually say all apps would be pay apps, she just said "all the apps currently are free so get them while you can, as they wont be next year"

Ok i googled it.

First up sourceforge.net - a collection of FREE software
second opensource.org - click open source definition and first on the list is "Free Redistribution"
third the wikipedia entry for opensource that states "A main principle and practice of open source software development is peer production by bartering and collaboration, with the end-product (and source-material) available at no cost to the public."

Guys Guys.. as Thread starter can we put a hold to the divine meaning of open source, all i asked was does any one know anything about the apps ALL being sold now, tomorrow or in the future.

So if you have some information pertaining to that, please post by all means, al those who want to puff their chest, go outside to the playground!.

Regards

Rich

Honestly I think that more app will begin to be sold for money, but not all. There is no way to know this for sure since the devs are the ones who make that choice. I believe that there will always be people out there who will make free apps.
