Help VM Start Up Sounds

Tried several searches but found nothing. Is there a way to mute the Virgin Mobile start up sounds when the phone (Optimus V) is first turned on? Don't want to root, just want to mute the noise.

AH, you dont like that VIRRRRRRRRGIN MOBILE lady?

What about the Virgin Mobile ringtone when you get a call?

+1 for Silent Boot. It works like a charm. That VM startup sound is absolute crap, not to mention slightly embarrassing too.

I was able to figure out how to change the ringtones, just not the start up noise. This is my first smart phone so am really "dumb".....:D

Muting the startup sound is also a feature of Android Assistant, which I use frequently to see what's running and terminate stuff that's not needed.

(Note: if you do it with Android Assistant, it's unable to turn your sounds back ON if you move the app to the SD Card. That may be true of Silent Boot as well.)

Where are the settings in Android Assistant to mute the startup sounds? I can't seem to find it on my phone.

I can't believe you guys are complaining about a whopping tenth of a second of start up sound... lol

When you're over the age of 18 the "cool hip teen" features of Virgin Mobile get extremely tiresome. The startup sound just screams teenybopper. The ringtones are worse.

Because it's loud and obnoxious. LOL. Still can't believe that you have to download an app to shut it up. On my last phone, a Virgin Mobile NON-smart phone, there was actually a setting in the options where you could just turn it off. Apparently the non-smart phone is smarter than the smart phone. :D

It's just really grating though. Both my bosses have VM phones, they can't stand it either.

But yeah, one of the first apps I put back on my phone after a reset is Silent Boot. Works great.

What's the point of rebooting so often?

I don't reboot often. But sometimes to save the battery (especially when I'm stuck in no man's land searching for signal) I will shut off the phone entirely.

I know I can use Airplane Mode. Just sometimes I shut down completely and give it a fresh reboot. I despise that obnxiously loud Virgin Mobile splash screen. In fact, I hate most of the stock stuff VM throws at customers. The dumb phones are especially grating. Never could figure out how to shut off that stuff on my LG Rumor Touch.

I have old VM Optimus V. I used to use com.antweb.silentboot by Anton Weber until I was forced to give up nearly all my apps because of google play store, google play services, and all of the other google apps which are relatively gigantic compared to most apps I installed. Note that the Google apps are almost always not movable to the SD card. The limited memory and huge Google apps finally pushed me to buy a new phone. Examples: Google Play Services = 16.5MB, Google Play Store = 11.3 MB, Gmail = 3.3 MB (close to 4 MB with data), Maps 3.55MB, Twidroyd 2.27MB (not google, but can't uninstall it from the VM Optimus V), WHERE 1.39MB (not Google, but can't uninstall it), Google Services Framework = 1.3MB, Poynt = 1.02MB (not Google, but can't uninstall it), SCVNGR = 1MB (not Google, but can't uninstall) and so on and so forth.

While these are tiny little nothings on newer phones, on the LG Optimus V circa 2011, which only has about 160MB memory, they all really add up fast.

I Keep Fast Reboot and Cache Cleaner+ around. And I open the apps setting and manually kill anything running which I know I don't need. And I uninstall and reinstall larger apps when push comes to shove. If an app can't be moved to sd card, I might pass it by.

On this androidforums site, you can find a list of bloatware here:

Have you ever thought of rooting your Op V? The V is a very easy phone to root, with root, you can get rid of all that bloatware that the phone comes with and move most apps to the SD card, just something to think about. I was a nervous wreck when i first rooted a couple years ago, believe me if i can do it anyone can!
Root opens up a whole new world for this phone especially if you like to have a lot of apps, there are members with over 100apps using links2sd and still have around 100mb of internal space left. ;)
