Root Tomorrow, we root... (We, meaning I)

I know, I know 'There are tons of root threads' on the forum; however I need all the experts out there to be all 'No problem, we can help you' and all that.

So, tomorrow, at around 10 or 11am, I plan to go into my computer, and root the living christ out of my HTC Desire. It's currently on O2 UK, and has the stock 2.2 update that was sent through last year. However, I'm beyond pissed off with a) The lack of true use of the phone (I.e. uninstalling bloatware, like facebook and HTC bloody peep) and b) I read that a rooted phone can improve the battery (I don't know how much truth there is in that, but heyho)

So, here is what I have to work with

I have;
A HTC Desire (This would be an interesting thread if I didn't have one of those)
An apple macbook (which I despise, but I've had it a few years, before fanboys existed like they are now, thus I never got another)
Two hands
The ability to follow instructions.

I've found a load of threads about doing this through a windows PC, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to find a guide to help me with a mac, probably because Steve Jobs and his cronies are a pack of knobs.

So, if you would all be very kind to pull the resources together and help me out, I would be eternally grateful.

In a sense, this is (possibly) the first 'I'm going to be giving consistent updates throughout the process of rooting with your help' guide. Essentially, you are all (hopefully) going to root the phone for me via the medium of this forum! You all must be very excited... (please be)

So what would I need (software-wise) to prepare such a task; as I am to put it in scientific terms; shitting myself.

Thank you, you lovely people!
:)

Your be pleased to know that on a MAC the process is easier than a windows machine .

The unrevoked program is simply self contained so just download the program click the root my prime button and job done :)
Unless your pvt size is 4000 then chose another recovery

Ah, you see?? A Lovely person there helping out a little man like myself. I have a question though.... pvt size is 4000? I don't wish to guess what this means out of fear of embarrassment; could you elaborate on it please?
Ta again for the response. Your thank you button is getting a big fat click from me!!

Yeah, if your phone is PVT4, you'll need to either use ClockworkMod 2.5.1.8, or an Amon RA recovery. Since you've had the phone a while though, chances are it's PVT3, in which case everything will go fine without changing anything.

Yeah, I can. It works flawlessly no need to worry. Once youve done, you'll wonder why you didn't do it earlier. which ROM do you plan to install???

Edit: I used a PC not a MAC though....

Well that all depends on what you want, i.e Sense, Vanilla or MIUI.

I suggest you read pick one from XDA forums, and read Page 1 of the ROM threads to see what you get with it. Currently I'm running AuraxT 8.4 which is a Froyo sense ROM. I'm waiting for a gingerbread sense to be bug free before swapping.

Desire Index - Everything Desire is here! [UPDATED: 21/3] [Mega UPDATE] - xda-developers

I use launcher pro, which I love, so I'll probably fire that back on; but I'm going to try my hand at different ones. Shall duke the site to see whats what

I have tried a few ROMs over the past couple of weeks.
Sense I found LeeDroid very good, stable and smooth.
Tried Insertcoin Sense and it had nice Sense features but it lagged to hell.
Vanilla I have found Gingervillian very stable and fast as fox in a forest fire but not exactly pretty (launcher will help fix a lot of that.)

Currently on Gingervillian because no matter how the apps and widgets look the phone runs like a powerhouse and usability is my main concern over aesthetics at the moment.

As per post above, you have an app called theme chooser in teh app drawer. When you install theme chooser apks (apps), they become selectable and applyable within this app. No flash, NOT version specific, modifyable in the kitchen.

edit> Infact I have dannycomb I can post for you (its honeybread modified by me to include honeycomb battery) and also one with tiny circle battery.
