Who is waiting for the Tab 8.9?

I was going to get a Wifi Xoom until I held the iPad 2. Then I realized how much those extra millimeters mean when crafting a modern tablet. I was stoked when Samsung announced their super slim Tab 8.9 and 10.1. I'd love to go down and buy a 10.1 when they're released, but I prefer the smaller size of the 8.9. Is anyone else changing their future tablet plans because of the Tab?

I played with the xoom at best buy and I think I'm holding out to check out the 8.9. The xoom almost felt too wide when playing games in landscape. I think the 8.9 will be perfect as an e-reader and a work companion. Plus give Honeycomb a little more time to gain apps and developers.

Besides the thickness of the Xoom being a turnoff, I didn't like how its thickness was not uniform. The way it thickened in the middle made it very unnatural holding in portrait mode. That was partly due to the fact that 16:10 screens are more awkward in portrait than a 4:3 screen like the iPad, but I felt it was mostly due to its unshapely nature. I'm hoping the Tab's uniform shape will make it feel better in portrait mode.

Here's another excited Android user. I'd really like to have that 8.9" version with HDMI dock. It be perfect for my room and on the road. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get the 3G version with 16GB memory.

Bought the Xoom on Sunday. Returned it on Wed. Waiting for the 8.9

The Xoom is too heavy and does not feel comfortable when holding for extended period of time.

I had the galaxy tab and loved it. I think the 8.9 will be the sweet spot for tab sizes.

I bought a xoom the other day, but no worries, I'm still on track to buy a tab 8.9. Costco has a 90-day return policy so I'm just going to lightly use the Xoom in the interim to get my fix. Definitely heavy and it has girth. I can't wait for the new Galaxy Tab's and their iPad 2 like thinness and lightness.

I'm not sure if I want the 8.9 inch or the 10.1 inch tablet.

I have the 7" tab and love it. Not wanting to just ditch it. I could take this one on the road and use it as my reader, or whatever while the 10.1 inch could almost be the new device just for the house.

Or, I could just upgrade to the 8.9 and use it for everything. I don't know, I'm so torn!!

I will be buying one of them, just not sure which. This time I am going to wait a few weeks after they come out (I'm gonna try) see where the best deals are, try them both out and see which one I prefer. Might even welcome the wife's input because whichever one will be a home device.

NOT going with a 3g or 4g model this time.

I have an the OG Ipad and I'll be adding the 8.9 to my collection to replace my day to day use of the iPad in the office. I think Sammy is going to hit it out of the park with these new tabs.

They are the only true threat to Apple they know how to design a sexy device. What will put them over the top is if they can design like 10 core killer apps to separate themselves from the heard of android tablets.

Its trully all about form and apps in the tablet game. Does anyone know if the new tabs processer will allow for DRM?

Right now I'm planning on getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.6 when it is released by Verizon. I need the 3g/4g connection.

I dont know about being any threat to Apple. my unit is back at Samsung for repair already while my co-workers with the ipad 1 and 2 are pretty much laughing at me for going the Google route. We shall wait to see if the 3.0 will truely have enough market support to be even close to the iPad.

Does anyone if you will be able to make phone calls with the wifi versions or at least use skype? I would prefer to not pay for another data plan each month.

It will be able to use the skype app just like any other android phone or tablet. I'm currently using it on my Xoom (without video, thanks Apple, don't know how much you paid Skype for that one). I highly doubt it will make phone calls like the European Galaxy Tab 7. Skype and probably Google voice will be on tap though.

My wife wanted to upgrade her iPad to the 2, and she's happy. Right about that time I got the TB (first Android phone) and I love it. So nice to be out of the Apple stable. So my tablet upgrade will be to the 8.9.

My feeling is that the 10.1 will feel a little too long/tall, but we'll see ... Can't wait!

Got the samsung galaxy tab from sprint today don't think i want anything bigger. I might as well use my netbook. My hands are small and this one (7in) tab fits rights in my hands. :):)

Will it have an IPS display?

No, the Asus Transformer has an IPS display. Samsung is using a Super LCD I believe. Whatever it is, it's going to be comparable to an iPad. Obviously side-by-side comparisons could be interesting, but on its own it should probably look great. Samsung makes some pretty good screens, and the original Galaxy Tab looks great.

One of the videos online of demos by Samsung staff(I think by 'phone dog.com') shows the app tray having a 'Phone' app. If this feature isn't crippled in the European market I'll be replacing both my Hero and iPad ASAP :)

Definitely waiting for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I know it's not the 8.9 as you all are talking about, but I thought I'd chime in anyhow.

Love the size, love the weight, and the screen! That's what I couldn't take with the Xoom, it's uneven thickness, it's heft, and the screen just seemed so dimmed compared to other tablets.

My only concerns are that:
  1. Will be overlay with TouchWiz (I just don't like it)
  2. May not have Tegra2 inside (may have Exynos processor/chipset) which will make us reliant on Samsung for updates....and we ALL know how that's gone in the past.
  3. May have a locked bootloader (but probably not).

Cross your fingers guys, this could be the HC tablet we've all been waiting for.

From what I've seen, most of the Touchwiz Ux customizations are widgets, and you can swipe up to bring up a launcher of common apps such as a calculator. These apps can be used on the screen without taking you out of the app you're in. Other than that, it seems like it's pretty minimal.

My major annoyance is going to be the AIO connector. I use HDMI all the time and using an adapter everytime will annoy me. But damn, the things I put up with for such slick hardware design. I feel like an Apple fan.

Could someone please tell me why after a month this thread got moved into the galaxy tab 7 forum? This question has nothing to do with the original tab. I swear, the moderators here are the dumbest people ever. Please either put this back where it was or make a gt8.9 subforum.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 actually uses a S-PLS display, which should blow the old Tab's display out of the water and should be even better than the IPS panel on iPad.

I cant decide between the 8.9 and the 10.1 but Im excited in general! Was going to get a Xoom until I saw the news on the upcoming release of these bad boys.

And you guys think the June 8th for the 10.1 and early summer for the 8.9 are still the release dates?
