Root Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3?

Hi guys! It's me again, if some of you ever helped me :]

I'm getting irritated with the fact that my Hero's really sluggish recently.
I'm currently using Elelinux's 7.0 v1.5 and there's a few problems like some stuff isn't really work the way it should. Crashes quite frequently like Double Twist, even Handcent.

I was wondering what should I do to speed up my hero or should I flash lower versions?

What will I be missing out if say I used a 2.1 rom? What's the real difference anyway?

I can't help you with what you'll be missing out on, but judging from stability of 2.3 roms these days, I'd say if you're torn between 2.2 and 2.3, 2.3 would be the way to go. But then again, 2.1 has sense and CAN be as speedy as a 2.3 rom. I use VR13, very pleasing so far, you could try it for a while to see if it sweetens your peach. I kinda can't let go of sense for the little things like dialpad and music player but that's just me. It all depends on what you like.
 
Thanks! I have already gotten used without sense! :] LP is really good and I have changed my home screen entirely! Looks so much better now.. Using W7 theme.. I'll consider trying 2.1 if there's really not much diff.. Hope to get more response! ^^
 
I would miss the speed improvements 2.2 brought to the table. I'd also miss the newer features like the market, or the ability to send emails via non-gmail addresses in the gmail app.

Plus, I much prefer the way I have my launcher pro bar set up compared to the HTC sense one. I've already found replacements for all the HTC sense widgets and apps that I need too :)
 
Wow thanks. I've flashed to 2.1 already. VillainRom13 is really fast! But I'm really missing out on some of the stuff :( Oh wells..
 
Interesting. I wonder how well they can coax that into working? I think with 2.2 + sense the camera still doesn't work for us.

As I said on the xda forums if I hadn't wiped my phone more than my backside recently I would try it today!

Thanks for the reply. Sense is really good but I don't really need it anymore since I'm kinda used to using LP or Zeam. Is there any 2.3 roms with the speed of VillainRom13?! =D

so, assuming you've had the chance to try it out a bit more. How well does 2.3 with sense work? :)
 
Very buggy, not for day to day use. Gone back to Elelinux's excellent 2.3 rom without Sense. I am hoping that Villainrom will be releasing a 2.3 rom with Sense soon.
 
My Fiance's Hero is running pretty slugish at the moment. Its on Froydvillain 1.72, OC'd to 709Mhz (or whatever the freq is).

for people who have tried FV, did you find any 2.2 roms faster?

as its not my Hero, I can't really chop and change roms too often and give them a fair test. All i can say is the battery life on FV is great.
