froyo 2.2 for virgin usa samsung intercept

My friend and I both have the same phone and service. He got the text message but I did not. I guess that means that he's going to get it before me? I hope they don't make me wait too much longer than the people that got the text message.

Any info about anybody getting it yet? What time are they supposed to start releasing it?

I haven't gotten it either, but I'm in school right now and this place has like led walls :P no service, I'll post if I get it (if it don't brick my phone)

:)

Could first few lucky ones who receive update notification today, please do the following?

Install any free Logcat App from Android Market and install on your phone this weekend prior to 4/11/2011.
When you see update ready notification on your phone, run Logcat App first.
Then, only download the update and choose option to install it later.
Check the log file created by Logcat and send the output to sdx-developers Forum. Especially, cut and paste the Google/VM/Sprint server names where Update is coming from and any user id and password (if there are any at all).
Also, please check whether your SD card shows update.zip in root folder of SD card.
If yes, please copy that file from your SD card root folder to your PC and post it to sdx-developers Forum.

This will help all rooted Samsung Intercept users on Virgin Mobile to get Update.zip of official Froyo Release.

:)

That's the same with us. My wife and I both have Intercepts. I received the text, but she didn't. I'm the geek in the family, so I'm glad I received the text first. :) Unfortunately, though, I haven't received the notification to upgrade my phone.

so still at school nothing... tho im on wifi will that make a difference for a over the air update or do i need 3g? ive gone outside for smoke breaks restarted my phone... nothing im about to call vm and bitch haha

Some of the fine people over at Virgin Mobile USA's Facebook page are claiming that they got the update, and were having issues with it. But I'd take all of their information with a grain of salt. VM has also been completely mum on the subject, but the VMUCare twitter has been telling people that it can't tell them the exact time the update will be rolled out. So they haven't come out and said what's going on, but they seem to be at least sticking to the idea that they want to release the update today.

Hope this update fixes this phone. My wife has it and I am rather disappointed with it's performance. Besides the fact that I'm a N1 power user, I found the phone to be quite lacking, even as an entry level Android. The lag is a big issue, and it isn't helped by the lackluster screen performance. I'm strongly considering upgrading my wife to the Optimus Prime or whatever the other Virgin Mobile Android phone is. Hopefully some FroYo will soothe us and save us $200..

Here is standard Virgin Mobile USA Customer Service reponse to my e-mail:

Yes, the update will start with 5,000 Intercept users and we will continue to be released in waves of 5,000. There are no specific criteria to be selected first for the update other than you have to have an Intercept. The update has been tested so the first group is not to test the update we choosed 5,000 at a time to make sure the systems wont overload and will not crash our systems or skip anyone. I do not have a specific time of when the update will start or be finished by but, my guess is that the update will start around 8:00 AM central time as to not wake anyone with notifications early in the morning and I do not think that it should last more than a day or to for the update to reach everyone. If there is an issue like the famous "Bricking" that some devices have experienced during software upgrades you will either have to deal with the place of purchase or if they will not help we will send you another phone in a timely manor. That should not happen due to extensive testing. If you do not wish to wait until the system notify you to update you phone you will be able to choose the option to manually update. I highly recommend backing up all person information like music, contacts, calendar events, memos, applications, or anything else that is important to you.

"choosed" should be "chose"
"manor" should be "manner"
"notify" should be "notifies"
etc...etc

Hardly inspires confidence :)

so i just called vm they sent my call to india and he said id get the update today, but he said it would come in a text message??? wtf but he didnt tell me what time or anything just that he looked at my account n it was comming today.... funny how last month they "didnt know anything about it".... so he just said hit the link in the text n it would update, does this sound legit?

oh and **** alex my virtual advisor

7:46pm pst still no update... i hope they know if i dont get this by 9 im calling and filing a complaint and possible law suit for false information time and time again.

Just updated... didnt take too long. SMS history remains in tact but call log was wiped. Haven't tried to do much with it yet but one thing I really like is that the contacts screen now has a scroll bar on the right hand side instead of that stupid A-Z list where you couldnt really tell which letter you were pressing because it was so small.
