I am never able to be happy with my phone cuz when i get one i hear about how for 30 dollars more i could have had this or that lol which my wife hates considering we have two kids and are far from rich, anyway my point being is thank god i found someone who will pay 100 dollars for a used ascend, im tired of waiting for the 2.2 update and as i said im not rich so i cant afford to root and take the chance of breaking my phone...i am asking anyone who has went from the ascend to the optimus to tell me the pros and cons and if its even worth the switch, thanks.

I don't know all the ins and outs of the Ascend but one feature difference I kept running into is that the Optimus has dedicated graphics chip which allows for a few things that the Ascend can't do well, like gaming. Also with 2.2 (or 2.2.1) out of the box, you get to move apps to the SD card, provided they support the feature. This is real handy for those 10MB+ apps/games which in some cases only need 1MB physically on the phone.

- Dedicated graphics for more video support including games and DivX

wow, well that was extremely informative and makes my decision 100 times easier lol, you really sold me at divx...i love to carry scarface around on min sd cards, but i love even more when i have a gadget that will allow me to insert the sd card and watch scarface :) thank you very much for the detailed reply!

I would add some information as an adjunct to the great advice you got. Clearly, you are a critical thinker. These are points I would consider if I were in a position similar to your account:
  • I observed three discount programs on the Optimus M -- I bought on the first observation. So, I would argue that you can get the phone cheaper if you want longer. I would not wait too long, because Metro wants to get better phones.
  • If you want to have a droid phone -- in my opinion -- Optimus M is the mimimum you want to have. The Optimus V is good too, but Metro's plans are easier on my wallet.
  • If your phone is defective: that is, it (1) has random reboots, (2) data does not work, (3) MMS does not work, or (4) other weird stuff happens do not change out the phone.
  • In the aforementioned case, refund the phone and buy a new one. If you change it out for another phone, they will -- most likely -- give you a refurb and every change over you do from then on will be a refurb and you will not be able to refund because you already changed out your original phone. And, they got ya!
  • If you can't get a refund at the shop, got to the corporate shop and make sure you report that shop too, please.
  • If you have *any* problems with Metro, send me a message and I will help you.

These are mostly points of experience. You can consider these points. You may find these useful.
