Still Confident Bravo is coming to Verizon

Stopped by my local VZW store today, my friend works there for the past 7 years (store manager). It is time for my yearly upgrade on the 15th. I opt to take my upgrade yearly, I lose $50.00 toward my upgrade allowance and enter into a new 2 year contract but I get a new phone every year at the 2 year contract price. I was all set to get my new Droid this Friday. My friend told me to wait because VZW has some new Droid devices that are going to be released real soon. I asked him when and he said in the next couple of weeks. Late Jan. early Feb. He wasn't given exact dates yet. He did say HTC was among the list of phones to be released and said I quote "you have to wait for this phone. It is a Beast". Similar specs to the Nexus One. We went on to talk about the Nexus One and he said it should arrive toward the end of March beginning of April. He also said that Verizon will be selling the Nexus One at their stores. I thought it was being sold online only by Google. He told me he will keep me posted as he gets new info. I was ready to cave in and pick up a Droid but guess I am going to hold out for a little while.

That's what I'm figuring too. My girlfriend likes the Droid a lot so it'll be a gift to her. I'm just gonna use it to get familiar with as much as I can before I get my "Super" phone..lol

I think CDMA is going away in the next few years isn't it? I'd have to do some research, but I think LTE is going to be the new standard worldwide. That would fit right in with Google's plans.

You are correct VZW has already started early tests on its LTE network.
 
I've heard AND said all sorts of things similar to what you're all saying. At this point all I can say is "I'll believe it when I see it." Let's just hope that we see it soon. There are a lot of rumors and there are a lot of people claiming fact on a lot of things, they can't ALL be correct. So, when the truth finally comes out, I guess a lot of people who claimed to have the facts will just disappear from this forum and the ones who are correct will get to stay and bask in the light of correctness. haha So, a week or two? Let's just wait and see who is right. I hope the ones who say that the Bravo/Passion is the same phone are correct, but time will only tell. It's GREAT, however, to finally have some action in this thread and at least have people talking. I'm about talked out. I'm ready to buy a phone and move on with my life. Meanwhile, there is a HOT girl in my bed begging me to get off of the computer and get back in bed. I better do what she says. Gotta make time for my brothers in the Android Forums though. ;)

They have till the end of the week for a Jan launch. But going on the N1's history they may not even need two weeks.

Well, it was given to Google employees the Friday before approval. Don't mistake giving the phone to a couple hundred employees with releasing an order of half-million plus handsets to production. A couple hundred handsets float around companies during the testing phase all the time, well before FCC approval. It's not like they don't know if these things will pass well in advance of approval, but you're not proceeding with mass manufacturing a second before the FCC gives the okay. Two weeks absolute minimum, but probably longer. January is not happening.

Even if Apple implemented a huge, killer hardware upgrade in June, what about the OS? As I stated awhile back, yeah it's smooth and works great. But the UI? Blah. I don't care if it has 4GB ram, quad core mobile processing, and HD amoled resolution. All that to see screen after screen of icons without any personalization capabilities? Blah.

God I hope you're right. I'm starting to lose faith, and no offense, but I've heard this a couple times now at various points over the past couple months only to be disappointed. That's okay. I'll hold out hope again. Without hope, what else is there?

CDMA will be around for a good 10 years, mark it down. It'll take that long to build out LTE to every corner of the network. Besides, it'll be another year or so before LTE handsets just start to become available. How long will it take to turn over all those two year contracts? LTE phones will be 3G fallback capable for the next several years to make sure you can still operate at every corner of Verizon's network.

As far as LTE being the worldwide 4G standard? Um, don't forget about WiMax. There's Sprint already and then a few other providers worldwide slated to go the WiMax route. Just when you thought we would finally be standardized...
 
I'm really hoping that something Verizon branded by HTC with Android 2.0 or greater does come out soon. I like everything about the Nexus One, but it looks like there are some issues with it (albeit minor), but that is to be expected with any first gen product. I'm also hearing now that Google is charging an ETF on top of TMo's ETF which is ridiculous.

I'd rather be able to check out a VZW phone in the store and order it from that point forward and if necessary only have to deal with their ETF. On top of that the Bravo looks amazing especially if it will be running Sense. I will say I do hope it has physical and capacitive buttons like the Eris, I think that was a nice touch. Even if it doesn't it still looks like an amazing piece of hardware.
 
Ok, I'm in a bind and need some assistance. I'm really looking forward to an HTC release (keeping my fingers crossed).

I purchased my droid during the extended holiday return period and have until tomorrow to return it. I've been told that if I decide to go on a month to month plan, I CANNOT port my number over.

So I guess my only option is to return droid and sign with my family using an older phone (which I was told will STILL activate a 1 year agreement with verizon.)

Can anyone confirm this. It seems that to hold off on getting a phone will cause me to lose my number. Any suggestions??
 
I have called Verizon customer service and asked them this question more than once. They said you can merge your number with a family plan and your contract will continue as normal. So if you only have a few months left, merge with a family member for $9.99 a month until the end of the contract.

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I've just recently signed in November and happily got out of my iphone/att contract. So it seems that I will just have to go to a month to month plan using an older verizon phone and lose my number.


***UPDATE***
Well, turns since I am still within the holiday return period, I can just return my droid for a resstocking fee and move to a month to month plan with an older phone I have sitting around without having to sign any new contract. Sheesh, I had no idea this was possible, but upon researching, this seems to have been possible since Sep. 2008.
 
I haven't read the whole thread so I don't know how relevant this is but the Bravo is apparently coming to Sweden in March, so I guess the US will get it around that time too, probably a bit earlier.

Sadly, I can't live off of my sister's old Alias until the Bravo comes out. I have to have a smart (android) phone by the beginning of Feb. Nexus looks like the answer. A sense ROM will probably come out when the Bravo comes out (because of the screen res, etc). Thanks for all of the updates guys!
well, this is absolute pure rumor, but word has iphone 4g is gonna be insane they're talking hd screen + multi-core proc + killer gpu.

I don't think any company for that matter does. It would update like every 10 seconds and be very "blotchy."
 
I've heard about that (video chat) as well and that is definitely one thing I don't care about. Video chatting defeats the purpose of my device lol. It doesn't meet my criteria of being short and impersonal.
 
I guess it would be most capable on wifi.

But anywayss...
tomorrow is the 13th and it marks the end of the Holiday Return Period for Droids correct?

Are you guys expecting anything in the next coming days?
 
Well, the VideoChatting feature for the iPhone was just from an artist's rendering--in other words, it is just a sketch with no proof. :(

Second, I am android or nothing.
 
it is definitely possible for an AT&T phone to have a front facing video camera.

That doesnt mean att supports videochatting though.
otoh, they currently do have videosharing ...for those that have front facing cameras on their phones.

Its a one way thing. u "call someone" by way of the videoshare feed and then u can talk to them. they see your face and voice but it only goes one way. your screen also shows your own face. u just get to hear the other person talk....you dont see their face....

Its pretty stupid actually....a slightly more advanced version of video messaging...pretty much....with added fees and junk.

Like those above said, iphone 4g can only be so much an improvement over the 3gs. if they alter it too much it will mess with their beloved OS and billions of apps.

bravo ftw. i have a feeling we will hear or see something more official after the holiday return period is up.

That's a good point. They are innovative over there though. If they release another bump up just like the 3g, that won't cut it and I am sure they are aware of it. I don't expect the next iphone to be a phone to just get them by.
 
Translation:
According to a facebook message from the "3 Sweden" in response to a question concerning new androidmobiler in Tres range so it looks like the HTC Bravo is heading in the range, in March. Exactly when Bravo will is unclear when the HTC themselves have not gone out with any info, but then Bravo is said to be basically the same phone as Nexus One as a delivery date should not be too far away. The delay is probably not the hardware but must be adapted Sense for Android 2.1.

It certainly happens a lot of fun now at the beginning of 2010, having already released the Nexus One, X10 waiting (hopefully) just around the corner and now HTC Bravo in March. Our prediction that 2010 will be the Androids real breakthrough seems to be coming true. 2009 in all the glory, but this year it explodes!
