should I switch from Captivate to Nexus S?

Hi guys,

I have had my Captivate for 2 month now, and the Nexus S will be launching in Canada in a few days. Would you guys suggest the switch for anyone that has had both handsets? I absolutely love the Captivate the only downside is I don't find the GPS great, but I can live with it. Is the Gingerbread experience much better and worth the switch?

Would appreciate feed back

I don't have the nexus S, but in my opinion I don't think its a substantial upgrade from the captivate. Unless you can get a great deal on the Nexus S, I'd just wait for the galaxy S 2. Or if you haven't added a custom ROM (such as serendipity 6.3) to your cappy to make it snappy, I suggest you do that before coming to a decision. Adding a custom ROM really gives it a totally different new phone feel.

from what ive heard its not worth it. it doesnt record in hi-def like the captivate, no external sd card slot. it does get updates faster but you can get 2.3.3 on your phone if you want, its alittle buggy now but itll probably be pretty good before long

Yeah I have yet to put a custom Rom on the phone, I am still getting into the Android world lol coming from IOS. For me cutom Roms are like uncharted territory lol

For me, the Nexus S wouldn't be worth it with the Galaxy S II coming out. Also, I listen to a LOT of music on my phone as an mp3 player. No external SD slot is a dealbreaker for me. AOSP Gingerbread is nice, but not nice enough to make me switch.

The only debate that goes in my head is how important software is. The value of instant updates

Downgrading to an LCD screen and lack of an SD card slot to expand the memory are dealbreakers for me. I'd never consider the Nexus S, personally.

I have heard of Russian and elsewhere versions of the S use Super LCD (which is good too) but thought that North American versions of the S use Super AMOLED instead.

Or has Samsung changed all S versions to SLCD recently due to SAMOLED supply problem?

Dude yes! They are both like the same phone. Plus nexus s gets all google upgrades first. And you're rocking vanilla android!

but you dont get an external sd card slot or the 720p video recording. and 2.3.3 is available for the captivate anyway, not worth it

Yes, by all means if you can get a Nexus S buy it !

The differences are incredible, it's a phone like no other. I just got mine and its so nice its nearly indescribable.

I've had nearly fifteen top of the line Android phones, including the original Nexus One, and this phone just shocks me it's so nice.

The speed and seamless transitions when navigating are simply incredible. Without any bloatware or any downsides to the user experience its pure joy.

The 2nd generation Super AMOLED Plus, is the best, most gorgeous display I've ever seen. Especially outside its just terrific. I thought the Super Amoled on my Captivate was excellent (and it is) but nothing like this second generation version.

Even at the unsubsidized price, the Nexus S is an exemplary Android phone.

Those who doubt or criticize this phone have never had the pleasure of using one.

Super AMOLED Plus? I thought the NS uses the same SAMOLED (but without the protective Gorilla glass) as the Galaxy S and SLCD in some international versions of the NS.

The reason I am a bit hesitant on the NS is, as mentioned above, the VGA video recording, no touch-to-focus, no zoom, lack of hardware acceleration in some areas, etc. These are the enhancements Samsung made to its software stack.

Its a battle for me on one side I say software is so important on the other side I say no 720 p recording, and dual core phones coming out
