Who is waiting 4 the update???

I'm frustrated because everyone seems to be getting the update and I (in California) didn't even get the text yet! I think East Coasters are getting it before West Coasters. Either way, I'm tempted to manually update using the Zip file but I am worried as to possible repercussions such as what will happen when Virgin sends to update to everyone etc.. Better to be safe than sorry but still, it's an irking wait.
 
I live in the east coast (Kentucky) and never got it as of yesterday either.. so i updated yesterday evening using the update.zip.. it's the same file that virgin mobile will be sending you to update.. so don't worry about anything. once you update you'll be on 2.2 so you won't receive an update notification from VM because you're already upgraded.

there's really no point in waiting.. I'd just go ahead and do the update.. unless for whatever reason you aren't able to get the file onto your sd card. but the update process is as easy as installing a program on windows... all you do is download and rename to upload.zip put it on your sd card.. power your phone off.. hold in the volume down key and then hold down the answer/end call buttons.. as soon as samsung logo pops up let go of the answer/end call buttons but keep holding the volume down button until a different screen loads (recovery menu) .. plug your phone in.. press volume down once (this will scroll down to apply update.zip.. then hit your select key (middle button)

that's literally all you have to do.. the rest of it is waiting for the update.zip to do it's thing.. it loads 2.2 and restarts your phone and 2.2 will load up. you're done and ready to go. just whatever you do don't unplug your battery in the middle of waiting for it to install (after you've clicked apply update.zip) I didn't have a problem with it hanging during the install at all.. but some people have said it hangs during some of the parts and just not to panic and wait it out.. you'll be fine.

the first thing I did after it loaded 2.2 was hit the soft buttons over and over.. the back soft button and main screen or (show desktop )soft button.. it was pretty amazing feeling the buttons vibrate on every single touch.. no more non-responive buttons !
 
Received the text message. After waiting for a couple of days with no update I decided to proceed on my own.

I downloaded the file and renamed it to update.zip. I copied the file to the root directory of the phone's microSD card and ran the install as described in the previous post.

Works fine!
 
Got the txt on the 8th. Still no update. I did remove thinkfree.apk and virgin_live.apk but reinstalled them and moved them to /system/app via Root Explorer...

Yes, I too was doing the same, but was 3days this week without 3G connectivity to the web. After VM straightened that out, I figured there was a good chance I missed the push anyway... How could one know?

I followed the instructions for installing from the Update.zip. No issues. I used SwiFTP and FileZilla to move it to the root of my phone's SD card.

Everything from contacts to email to shortcuts and widgets were still intact.

The phone is finally displaying it's potential and I can move past the frustration towards appreciating the utility of the product now. It's a 48MB file. I've saved 3G bandwidth for others. :)

Hey where did u get the virgin mobile live apk cause on the other post it shows the apk for android 2.2 does that matter or will that one work thanks for ur help
 
I waited for about a week after the intital text, but said screw it and got the zip file and did it myself.
No problems at all yet. Took roughly 10 minutes total, and it runs surprisingly smoother.
 
I'm still waiting, but I'm running LauncherPro rather than the stock launcher. Has anyone with LauncherPro received the update? I'm wondering if I'm net getting it because of that
 
I didn't wait and I really don't suggest anyone wait and use the update.zip its signed and everything. If your not a stock though it is a hassle to get back to full stock as I discovered but if your at stock your really punishing yourself by not updating right now with the update.zip posted (its fully signed and legit) Posted the sdx developers link post below please do update now if your at stock. I did and its working fantastically with zero issues.

Just updated took only like 10 mins. Im happy with the update after messing around with some apps that wouldn't run before 2.2. Thanks for showing me the site.

Hmmm, very frustrating... I've been trying to download the update and follow the instructions on this and a couple other sites with no luck! Guess I'll just be waiting this one out. I did call VM and they said it's coming in waves and to just keep waiting. Oh well....
