External Battery Charger = More Juice?

I've been offering my experience with the HTC Express 1700 batteries on another thread and noticed that I get longer battery life when charging the batteries using the external wall charger compared to charging the battery while in the bolt.

I guess this makes sense considering bump charging is known to improve battery charge but even bump charging does not seem to compare to the difference I've experienced pulling the battery out of the phone and using the external wall charger.

Really makes me wonder just how inaccurate these phones are at charging and measuring these batteries. When the phone thinks its 100% charged, it might be more like 80% or 90%.

I have used the wall charger with the Dinc 1800 battery and noticed no difference in better life of the battery than the phone plugged in to a wall charger. How much of an improvement have you seen using the external wall charger over the im phone charging? have you kept a log between the two, or just from memory?

I'm still trying to figure this out, but I think the circuitry in the batteries and phones is purposefully designed to keep the battery from overcharging. As strange as this may sound, 100% is not really an objective measure when it comes to the protective and calibration circuitry. After bump charging a battery in the phone, I've had my phone stay on 100% for a couple of hours of standby, but I've also seen it start to go down to 99% very quickly after charging on my one of my wall chargers. With two 1400 and one 2750 mAh batteries and two wall chargers & a car charger, I think my phone's battery calibration memory is probably more confused than me.

Notice when charging your battery in the phone, even with the phone turned off, it is still controlling and monitoring the current that goes to the battery. Even when your battery is 'fully charged' to green, and then bumped charged a few times, if you pull the charging cord and plug it back in, after about 10 seconds, there is a very slight vibrate signal, then the orange LED goes out after a couple more seconds, then comes back on and charges some more for about 30-35 seconds before the LED turns green again. Bump charging is basically fooling this protective circuitry, to top off a little more juice into the battery.

The reason you get better battery life when you charge it in an external charger is because when you charge it in the phone, it shuts down the charging feature when the battery is fully charged, and starts using the battery to power the phone. The light will still be green but it starts draining the battery. That's why some people complain that the battery meter drops really fast. It is really not at a full charge at that point. I use a desk top charger, and I can go all day without a problem. Is the same problem that everyone complained about on the Inc.

robrecht, exactly your point about the battery staying at 100%. It seems like the usage time I get until I reach 90% or so from a externally charged battery is much more then when its charged in the phone. That's basically what motivated me to create this thread.

In these cases, the phone reaches 90% or so much quicker then an externally charged battery. And thats not to mention that an externally charged battery has to be used to boot up the phone which I'm sure uses a good amount of juice.

I have no doubt you're surely going crazy. Without standardized accurate measures of battery capacity, everyone's anecdotal evidence is relatively useless.

After a few days, I started to notice an apparent difference between my cheap but compact Chinese wall charger and my more bulky and more expensive Seidio multi-charger. The Seidio seemed to be charging the battery more. So today, when I had charged a battery in the Chineese charger and the light turned blue, unplugged it, plugged it back in, still blue. Then I took the battery out and put it into the Seidio charger, and the Seidio's charging light was red and it charged it some more before turning green. No, I didn't sit around watching the charger to be able to tell you how much longer! Just thought it was interesting. Not sure the Seidio is better. Maybe it is overcharging the batteries for all I know. But it seems that there is differing protective circuitry in the chargers as well as in the phones and the batteries.

Dont take it the wrong way but this sounds like people who put a CAI on their vehicle and swear they feel a major increase in HP and torque. we call this the butt dyno. They feel it becasue they want to justify spending over $300 for the CAi. WHen its proven you gain hardly nothing on the real dyno.

Who knows maybe its true with what your doing.

lol.. Very familiar with the butt dyno. Been building and riding ATV's for years.

There's no doubt the new battery gave me more juice per charge. Absolutely no question. Now, how much it gave me (10%, 20%) is still up in the air.

NP I just dont want you think I was ragging on ya. I will be getting that battery setup you have after I get back from WDW. Then I will try it and see what I get. I usually use my phone almost the same day in and day out. I know I have no friends lol.
