I lost my Hero over the weekend and I thought it would show up by now but no such luck. My problem is that I'm not sure if the Hero is worth the $480. I mean I had very little problems with my Hero; I loved the Sense UI but it was slow and we all now the Hero is slow.

My question is basically what would you do? Would you purchase another Hero for full retail price? Or possibly get a Nexus One or other option?

No idea...didn't purchase insurance, didn't want to spend the extra $7-10/mo... although I do have renter's insurance...wonder if that falls under that.

Thanks Sherlock, I know I have to pay full price...that's not the question at hand here. Question is, is the Hero worth the full retail price.

well genius, insurance on an expensive phone should be a no brainer....
and no its not worth the $400+ price tag

^ I completely disagree about insurance...

Op - It's not worth the cost of the new phone. Check renters insurance. If you can get out of ETF it may be worth. switching. Play the number game and see what you come up with.

I've carried insurance since my treo 650. When it broke they gave me a 700p. When that broke they gave me a 755p. I upgrade after my two years rebate and got a touch pro, keyboard stopped working they replaced it, bricked it up and it wouldn't place or recieve calls, they replaced it, Key board stopped working again and they replaced it. Lets add this up. 500, 500, 500, 500, 500, 500. hmmm thats like 3 grand in phone replacements for 7$ a month. I have never paid $50 or $100 or anything like that for a replacement either.

Get the insurance, it pays!

they have apps that is supose to help you find it if it is lost, I take it you didn't get one of these? they are supose to turn you GPS on and SMS or email you the location.

My friend lost his Hero a couple of weeks ago, I told him to install the Lookout app from the market store. And he logged onto it from his laptop and guess what? We located the phone in another city, the girl who had found it forgot to turn it off and since the phone was locked. We was able to track it....he got it back!

I have to say if you do have a hero, install Lookout from the market and if you ever lose it. GPS it...

CRAIGSLIST. Best place to save money. Sometimes saves you even more that ebay. I like to hold the phone I am going to buy.

Yeah that Lookout app def sounds like something I wish I would have known about before and will def put on my new phone.

But I keep calling my phone and it goes straight to voicemail so I guess that means it's out of batteries or maybe someone already swapped it over to their line? Who knows.

If you dont wanna buy my hero, i have an og instinct that works fine with extra batteries and cases i'll sell cheap.

If your phone was lost/stolen ...you can have Sprint block the S/N in case someone tries to use it to open a line or you can have Sprint track it for you as well.

Instamapper supports remote activation (and deactivation) of their package via SMS (GPS_TRACKER_START/STOP your_key_number) . Very cool and very free. Hopefully, they can find a way push a hook to start the GPS receiver if GPS is disabled - otherwise your location is cell site specific.

I guess it all depends. I've owned a NEW phone every 2 months since '98, so for me it's useless. I have also never lost or dropped my phone and any issue I've had has been covered by the 1 year manufacturer warranty.

How have you managed to pull that off?

how's wavesecure though?

Lookout a pretty good app IMO....

It does the same thing it think. You can wipe your entire phone and track it as well. You can even set it so a custom message come up to the phone when its locked. And you can put in your contact info.
