Root Redux A2SD+

I recently stopped using my Desire as my primary phone, and I'm now experimenting with it to see how long I can make the battery last, using the best power saving settings I can. Currently it's sitting at around 65% after being on for 2 days straight, with no SIM card in it.

I've heard that Redux is pretty good on the ol' battery, and I was just wondering what version it has, before I flash it to my Desire.

Any help is much appreciated, as usual. :)

What do you mean what version? if you refering to the current version its 1.1.2, i would go with the themed version, its very cool and very good on battery life.

Redux is a Gingerbread (2.3.3) aosp based rom. I'm also running v1.1.2 and can confirm it runs very smoothly and very reasonable battery life (about 50% after 12 hours medium to heavy use).
Cheers,
Erik

Ive been running it since yesterday but havent really had chance to review battery.

Its not as nice as GV for me and thinking of going back, but need to run it a full day under normal circumstances to give fair appraisal.

No its not. Does that matter?

Theres an additional zip to flash (flashes new 10apps2sd script) that includes dalvik move if thats what you want.

I think the major difference of Redux with GV are the CM settings + themes that are missing in Redux. The battery life should be about the same from a user perspective.

I'll comment on battery life tomorrow in more detail but it may be a bit better on redux. Where I am normally 80% by the time I get to work (lots of screen on time), this mornign I was on 84%.

Draw seems aroud the same, but Ive been keeping the phone awake with regular checks of emails etc (waiting to hear on a job)

True test will be % upon return home.

It's not that DarkTremor matters, it's just the only way I've used A2SD, I assume on other ROMs, it just does it?

Oh, and yeah, please keep me posted on battery life. :)

47%

14 Hours, 6 minutes, 17 seconds battery

1:47 screen on
Most of that time, xda, phandroid app
Short phone call
9 sms
read / sent 58 emails.

Good for bed time :) I'd probably be at 35-40% max (on GV) after this usage, at bed time

Needs more testing though. Varied usage.

From a user's perspective the main difference I've noticed with DarkTremor is that you need to tell it where you'd like the Dalvik cache, unless you want it in internal. As you guessed, other a2sd+ I've used you didn't have to do anything with.

Redux eh, Dan? Well do give us a report when you think you've tested enough.

I will indeed.

So far I'm swaying towards GV, But thinking about it, CM settings wise all I am missing is teh performance options. Setting VM heap to 32 for example. I think Homescreen trasnition could be better on Redux.

Other than that, theme chooser. Mainly convenience but also as I love the honeybread theme (modified).

Mendoza's at UOT has nicely offered to try and port it manually as a 1 off for me :)

we'll see how I feel then :)

Batter seems a bit better. Got my system partition down to 75MB and eviollet manU 1.4 works like a dream.

The screen drain on Redux seems less (which I didnt expect) but whilst browsing on teh bus on the way home, the % seemed to drop slower than GV with screen on.

It actually benchmarks quite well in Quadrant, even without the GFX optimised, can get baack end of 1500 (think 1576) but thats irrelevant anyway.

GV feels a bit smoother.

I'm a big user of the notification bar power widget, though doubtless I could adapt to being without it (start using QuickDesk again?).

I tried both but dodnt get on very well without wipe.

I then wiped and was very disappointed with titanium restore. My scheduled backups have been crashing maybe 1 out of 3. My restore was a mess too.

I guess that makes sense, all the CM extras adding up to an incompatibility.

Trying out the leaked HTC 2.3 drivers and RIL with GV now, but not in my normal pattern at the moment so won't be easy to judge any effect on battery in the short term.

Thanks - been watching that thread too. But I thought that was with Redux as well.

I see you have your theme on Redux as well now :)

Just flashed dannycomb onto redux and its perfect. Just need to recook it as it has gingervillain in teh footer of the notifications.

Other than that it looks exactly as the theme chooser version did.

Edit, combo of RIL, drivers and redux I think.

Well the RILs were a nightmare! Looked like it had improved WiFi at first, but then discovered that mobile data was lost when the screen turned off (with 32.49 radio). Tried updating to the latest radio but that one would lose all signal after about a minute. Same problem with 32.54. Fixed by reverting to the GV drivers and RIL.

I'm pretty sure it's the RIL rather than drivers, so could try flashing the driver+RIL then flashing the older RIL, but not tonight. Or maybe there's something lurking in my apps or autostarts.

Guess I'll need to do a bit more experimenting. From the RIL thread at XDA it seems there's a lot of stuff like this...

I dont seem to have any issues with 32.54 and these, but never tried them on GV.

A few were indeed mentioning issues on latest radio with the connection dropping in teh GV thread
