Headphones to listen music and to answer a call

i bought my wife some pretty purple/pink/white ifrogz with a mic for less than 15 dollars. work well with music and calls, no problems there, Only thing i have not tried is to see if the phone will auto answer calls either automatically or via voice command.
 
Can someone post some links for the headphones with mic you bought work for the Thunderbolt? I see the BB earphones would work. Ideally, if we can find a set with mic (working) and also has music control (forward, pause, etc.). Thanks.
 
Any suggestions for an Over-The-Ear headphone and Mic setup that will work with the TB, that has good sound quality?

I don't like the ear buds, with extended listening they hurt my ears. I prefer the Over-The-Ear headphone.

Any recommendations?

It's just so ridiculous. There's already a goddamn mic on the device. I shouldn't need to buy another pair of headphones with a mic built in....just enable the mic that's already there!

Amen to that! What a silly bug! I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Verizon tech support trying to explain to them why this sucks. This particular tech wasn't the brightest and couldn't seem to understand why this isn't good. In the end she tried it on an older Motorola Droid and said that the other Droid has 2 mics, and that's why you can talk on it when the headphones are plugged in.

Not satisfied, I called HTC to discuss this. First, they said that the right headphone to use is the 3.5 mm audio jack TI audio dsp headphones. Then they said that it probably still won't let your mic work while you're on a call. She said that she uses her bluetooth to listen to music and that it automatically overrides when a call comes in. I pointed out to her that those devices cost a pretty penny and it's silly for HTC to have not seen this coming. At any rate, if it is an issue of hardware (i.e. needing a second mic), then no software fix will help. I hate to say it, but this is big enough of a downside that I may return this thing and get something else. total bummer...

Call HTC at 866-449-8353 and report the problem. They said if they get enough calls about it they will do something...
 
Well, the thunderbolt does have two mics. They're used for noise cancellation. I imagine that the OG droid uses its two mics for the same purpose.

Yep there are two mics (actually I think 3 or 4). They will be able to fix this with a software upgrade, they just need to remap one of the mics. It is also the reason for the poor audio recording when making a video.

Found this on the HTC Forum Maybe this is the reason some work and some don't...My " guess" is the Thunderbolt jack configuration is Left ,Right, Mic, Ground.

Im wondering if anyone knows what the pin assignments are for the audio jack. Im ordering a headset cable w/ mic and adapters and knowing this will save me $ on trial and error.
TRRS Connector pin order listed below = tip, ring, ring, sleeve
Typical iphone: Left, Right, Ground, Mic
Some Android Phones: Left, right, mic, ground
The HTC Hero, Desire & incredible followed the typical iphone assignments, can anyone confirm if they are the same for the thunderbolt?
 
Well after some research I've decided to give up on getting a cable attached headphone that will allow for both Music and Phone. It looks like it may be more problems then it's worth to find a solution.

I have sense decided on looking into a bluetooth solution and after a lot of research I ran into these. They look their fairly stable and seem to have a following.

I use a couple of different set-ups:

1) Jabra BT8010 for wireless (hard to get anymore; Amazon.com: Jabra BT8010 - Headset ( clip-on ) - wireless - Bluetooth: Electronics)

2) Any pair of regular wired headphones + this: Amazon.com: Headset Hands Free 3.5mm Adapter + Microphone for Apple iPod Touch iTouch 1 2 3 iPad iPhone 2 3g 3gS: Electronics
I've used this with both my OG Droid & the Thunderbolt. It pauses any music when the call comes in & resumes when the call is ended. You can use the 'pause' button on it to pause the music & resume. The only thing it doesn't do is actually answer the call - you have to manually answer the call on the Thudnerbolt. But it's worked well for me (I listen to LOTS of audiobooks through Audible, Overdrive, & MortPlayer.
 
After trying for a few different set, I can confirm the OEM version of "HTC 36H00880 - 04M" works. The reason I'm emphasizing the "OEM" is that the ones you can find on amazon (also claimed to be OEM) which sells for $5-6 does not work. I was able to get a set from ebay (cost slightly more). The OEM ones has "HTC" logos on the back of the earset. The microphone works beautifully, it automatic stops the music when phone call comes in. The music control buttons (pause/forward/rewind) though works on some music app but not all of them;
 
I have the Jabra BT8010 as well and it rocks. The advantage to the bt option is you can use the headphones you like the best. I paired mine with a pair of Skullcandy earbuds and it's better then my home system.
 
OK.....let me throw another bone onto the pile:

I like to listen to my Sirius App when I'm driving in my car.....so I purchased an Aux cable to hook my phone to my car stereo. Before this phone, whenever I did that, if a call came in, I would answer it, and the audio would come out the speakers of my car.....and my voice would be picked up by the phone.

Because of this "bug", once I plug in this aux cable so I can listen to my music, when the phone rings, and I answer it, I can't be heard. Very frustrating.
 
On my Droid X I could plug in the AUX cable and my wife could hear me through the normal phone mics and I could hear her through the car speakers. With the TB it doesn't work that way which is aggravating. I also have a really nice pair of iBeats by Monster that worked great on my old iPhone but does not work on any Android phone I've tried. (As far as answering calls, and/or the other person being able to hear me through the built in mic.)
 
Dawn and bassjo, that is the exact problem, not a brand new bone. But I feel your pain, it really sucks. Not sure of the problem had the devs working on it for a bit, but no one could figure it out. Maybe it's the noise cancelling in the phone who knows. Most have BT and it works fine with that so it's low priority. I just bought the mic extension and it works fine.

Did you buy the one that was linked in this thread from Best Buy? I had bought a different one, and my husband said I sounded like crap, so it went in the trash. I'm going to run over to Best Buy today and pick one up. I have a $5 off Reward Zone coupon that's expiring anyway....so I can get it half price.
 
Yes, that should work too. Someone recommended it to me but I didn't want to wait and headed to RS. For anyone else out there the RS one works great and you can skip songs with the little button on the side too.
 
Im shocked no one mentioned Dre Beats. They have a mic. I havent used them with the TB though so I can't tell you the outcome but they are amazing headphones.

I mentioned them and no they don't work with the TB! It really sucks because they are awesome headphones.
