Headphones to listen music and to answer a call

Im just wondering if there is a specific reason not every headphone with a mic works. Seems silly to have these compatibility issues for such an awesome phone.

After trying for a few different set, I can confirm the OEM version of "HTC 36H00880 - 04M" works. The reason I'm emphasizing the "OEM" is that the ones you can find on amazon (also claimed to be OEM) which sells for $5-6 does not work. I was able to get a set from ebay (cost slightly more). The OEM ones has "HTC" logos on the back of the earset. The microphone works beautifully, it automatic stops the music when phone call comes in. The music control buttons (pause/forward/rewind) though works on some music app but not all of them;

Do you remember which apps they work with and which ones they don't?

Ideally I would like to put the TB in an arm band to work out and control my music through controls on the headset. And I can't seem to find anything compatible at all.

This is the last thing I need settled so I can finally ditch my ipod.

Just tried out the Jaybird tiger eye ear buds. The mic works and the pause play works but the other music functions do not. I am returning them.

I bought some Motorola Rokr S9 HD bluetooth headphones: MOTOROKR™ S9-HD Wireless Stereo Headphones - Overview - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA

They're really nice to use because they're lightweight, unobtrusive, and are stereo. You can control the volume up or down on one side and on the same side a one button push will let you voice call (you'll be prompted to say something like, "call home" or "navigate work"). The other side lets you control the music player to skip tracks, go back, or pause.

I've been told that people can hear me crystal clear in every conversation I've had with them and the same is true hearing people.

I listen to music a lot, play bass guitar, and these have a deep, rich tone to them. They're even better with the EQ that I use with the PowerAMP app to play the music with!

The earphones wrap around your ears and are also great if you're a person who's physically active like jogging, or riding a bike.

I originally bought these a year ago to use with the Motorola Droid 1 and just last month switched to the Thunderbolt and they work exactly the same with them!

The battery lasts about 8 hours and even longer if you just let the music play and not pressing a lot of buttons.

If you do a Google search and click on the shopping link, you'll find many places that carry them. Newegg (though they seem to be out of stock right now) and a few other online retailers carry them. I know you can buy them at your local Best Buy, but they're a bit more expensive.

Whatever you do, don't buy them used or "refurbished" from a seller on Ebay. That's all I'm sayin'.

The OP and the person looking for a behind the neck setup should check the Motorokr S9-HD or S10-HD. The second is more for athletic use, it's sealed differently. Neither is the deep in-ear type, but they are well aimed and make a good seal

I've used a pair of S9-HDs on my D1 for over a year, and they work very well with my TB. Full control of call accept and reject from the headset, volume, track, and pause/play controls work perfectly. Oh, and no wires. They're bluetooth. I have a pair of Beats for when I want to sit and listen and I'm not near my stereo, but most of my headphone listening is casual and the Motorokrs sound plenty great. They're around $100.

I just posted in this thread and didn't see your response, my bad. Most definitely the way to go! ;)

Don't know about you guys, but this works for me

Amazon.com: Skullcandy FMJ In Ear Bud with In-Line Mic S2FMCY-015 (white rubberized): Electronics

Well.....I went to Best Buy, bought it, went out to my car and hooked it all up and made a phone call.....and promptly walked back into the store to return it. It still didn't work. I am looking at another option though.....

Amazon.com: Griffin GC17090 AUX Cable with Handsfree Microphone: Electronics

Looks like this one is going to work. I will post back after I receive it.

OK....so for those of you wanting to listen to your TB thru your car speakers using an aux cable, and still be able to answer the phone....the link above is the answer. I got them last night, tested them out today. Was able to stream Pandora on my TB, listening on my car speakers, and when a call comes in, it stops what you're listening to once you hit send....puts the call audio thru the speakers and goes back to what you were listening to when the call is over.

Cost was $18 and some change including tax and shipping (Yes, tax....it was shipped from TN and I live in TN).

They sell those at Wal-Mart Target and Best Buy.

This thread really helped me out. I was sure my BB headphones didn't fit, and no way I was gonna let a sales person tell me I need to shove them in. Sure enouh, after reading this thread I took off the battery cover and gently forced them in. As stated above, it's a very tight fit but they work fine. Now I can start looking for something with better quality.
Thanks

Tony

To get the internal mic working with headphones plugged in you go to settings, call, TTY mode, TTY VCO.
It worked for me at least. :)

Well after some research I've decided to give up on getting a cable attached headphone that will allow for both Music and Phone. It looks like it may be more problems then it's worth to find a solution.

I have sense decided on looking into a bluetooth solution and after a lot of research I ran into these. They look their fairly stable and seem to have a following.

If you're interested in a BT headphone check out this

Hope this helps others,

I got the Rocketfish RF-MAB2 and I love them. They sound great and I like not having to put my phone on me somewhere when I am on the treadmill. They go over the ears, which I prefer, and behind the head, which I'm not crazy about. I also tried the headset that goes in the ear and found that they hurt my ears after only a couple minutes. I am also able to take a phone call and my husband said I sounded clear.

OP here and my Skullcandy FMJ, in hot pink;) , are awesome! They work great and they work every time I use them.

I read through this tread quick and I didn't see this brought up. I like to be able to listen to my headphones,AUX cable and still make calls using the the phone mic. This can be accomplished by going to: Settings -> Call -> TTY Mode -> TTY VCO.

Works great and no need for headphones with a mic.

I really appreciate all the thoughtful responses to this thread (genuinely not sarcastic) but the thing with my particular need is i'm a little bit of an audio snob. I'm not going to call myself an audiophile because i don't have a 2tb collection of FLAC but i would rather pay for the quality of sound over almost any feature of the headphone/mic.

With that being said, Skullcandy are a "cool" brand but they are the Scions of the headphone world. Anybody have any luck with the Bose ie2's, Klipsch, Ultrasone, Sennheiser or any product that has mic functionality?

BOSE MIE4i. Best headset out there imo. Especially with the earbud design. It's damn near impossible for these to fall out.

ZAGG | ZAGGsmartbuds | iPhone Earbuds, In-ear Headphones, Earphones

I have been using these for about 2 weeks.

They hang around your neck, have great sound quality, good noise cancelling, the mic has worked for me with no problem at all, volume slider, and on a separate slider there is single button to either answer/hang up or pause/play music (long press will skip to next track).

I run with these and the sliders can get annoying since they are heavier than the cord and will just sway around a lot.

I'd go Klipsch or Thinksound.

On the cheaper end, Denon and Yamaha's entry level stuff is nice for the price.

I think you mean MIE 2i, correct? Or is there a newer version?

I have the Bose MIE 2 headphones and I love the sound, especially with the Music app's equalizer set to R&B. Excellent sound, and, of course, since they're sold by Verizon speifially for the ThunderBolt the mic works with incoming callls.

I've wondered about the Bose MIE 2i headphones. The Bose website says they also have "inline remote controls volume, track selection and voice applications." Do the volume and track selection work with the ThunderBolt?? How about the "voice applications," does that mean that you can use voice dialing with the ThunderBolt?

BTW, I usually hate earbud headphones, but these do fit very well and won't fall out. Also, don't buy these from Verizon unless you are getting at least the 25% discount. I've seen them elsewhere for $80 or $90 instead of Verizon's $130.
