What Android phone?

I planning to get the most out of it :D
That means root and rom HOWEVER now that i'm working i have a LOT LOT less time than i had when i was in high school (4 months ago).
But i still have my inside GEEEEEEEEEEEEEK xDD

:(:):( Samsung: Not good about updates, annoying iPhone copy UI, decent-ish hardware, bad GPS though. unlocked bootloaders.
The GPS issue is fixed with Froyo upgrade. In my humble opinion, the Galaxy S lines have the most elegant form factor. I have the Fascinate and it is the best looking phone available last year.

Some might argue it is copying the iPhone. But so what? Lexus has been copying Mercedes, but I don't see anybody complain about it and not buying the Lexus because of that. Just like Mercedes, iPhone has something good that worth copying and it is the UI and look-n-feel. That is one of the main reasons why they are selling so well. If you can copy and make it better, I am all for it. In my humble opinion, Samsung has done that in flying color....just like Lexus.

LoL!! I don't think you guys are answering his question.

I had the Samsung Vibrant running TouchWiz. To be honest, I didn't see anything related to iPhone besides the app drawer. LoL!! Not even the lock screen was the same. The design of the phone, however, looked like an iPhone Offspring, but that's a different argument.

The Vibrant (Tmo USA) had a great screen, and DLNA which was awesome. It's a pretty good phone. If you plan on rooting, then getting updates isn't an issue for you. The camera was exceptional, and that's only because Samsung makes cameras. All their phones are guaranteed to have good cameras. If you're in the US, I suggest either waiting for the Galaxy S 2, or getting the Vibrant 4G. They're both better than the original vibrant by having a Front Facing Camera, on 4G, and are on FroYo, meaning you can tether/ WiFi hotspot right out of the box.

If you want a QWERTY keyboard, then go with the Epic 4G. That's on Sprint (USA), so I don't know if carrier matters. I'm sorry, I don't feel like scrolling back up, LoL!!, but yea. There you go.

P.S. I'm on HTC, and they're good phones, but the battery does die a little faster than necessary. HTC makes computers, so I guess they put a little too much power in their phones. LoL!!

I had the LG eXpo and it was a decent phone. It was windows, and it ran ok. I was satisfied. I think LG phones are cheap to buy. LG seems to keep their phones at low cost, unlike all those other people. LoL!!

OK, you guys win. I updated Samsung's rating to 8 Big Grin smileys.

Anywho, good luck with your purchase Noobster.

It will be more like just shopping around to look for the best prices (Since all high end phones here that are not Blackberries are imported) :)
Blackberries are like a disease here xD It spreads faster than a pandemic

If you're in the U.S go for the T-Mobile G2X as it will work on AT&T's network if they merge, if you're in europe go for the LG Optimus 2X, same phone different software, owned one for 4 weeks now and I couldn't be happier :D

Looks more like previous Samsung phones than the iPhone but the iPhone is just allot more popular so people associate the appearance with that.

The app draw is simalar though, but it's better than the google app draw which is a mess.

Couldn't agree more, horrible phones but the Blackberry brand seems to sell well. :(

Eh, the app drawer is just a matter of personal taste. Fortunately, you can simply change it by using another launcher. :)

Best luck in your search.

BTW - HTC locking bootloaders is not new at all, that's a new internet rumor.

They've been using signed, locked bootloaders for quite some time - it was that way on the Evo (US-only model, CDMA) released here beginning of last June.

As VoidedSaint pointed out - it's not encrypted - big difference.

o god your back!!!

if htc begins to encrypt their bootloaders, you can rest assure they will be at the bottom of the most bought android devies, along with samsung...(haha shocky, its fun to get a rise outa you ^_^)

poor battery life with an encrypted bootloader means no more fun for htc
supposidly the guy who made the groupal or whatever it is, finally got through to motorola, and it seems they will begin to offer something along the lines of locking and unlocking of the bootloader.... unless this is yet another PR campaign we dont know, i submitted the news to phandroid, hopefully they will post it so we can get some feedback from users on this.

if moto unlocks their devices you can look for them to jump back to the top as the most popular android devices

Back? I never left.

All of this talk about HTC's bootloader is hooey, brought on blogs that had clue zero of what they were talking about.

Best luck with Motorola's bootloader. They said at CES - in response to one of their drones saying their bootloader would always be encrypted - that they were certainly paying attention to user complaints on this matter and the guy spoke without authorization. Leading blogs to infer that Big Things were happening. Almost 5 months later - and more new phones out - and what has Motorola delivered? Bupkis, that's what.

Meanwhile, some blog drone needed something to write about, and invented the new myth about HTC bootloaders.

And saying "if htc begins to encrypt their bootloaders..." - uh - kinda belongs in the flying pigs category until someone credible announces it's happening.

As for battery life - HTCs come out of the box with every worthless power-sucking feature turned on - kinda like a TV with all of its settings on max color. And while some people like that sort of thing (and is the cause of the battery reputation), normal users configure for normal use and get as decent battery life as you'd expect from a 4.3" - much like your DX.

i know with my eris, until i rooted, and put the froyo rom on it, it was dieing fast, i had to buy a car charger just so i can charge it when i drove to work (1hour) but when i put the froyo on it, the battery life seemed to level itself out.

i dont know about moto and what they plan on doing, im just waiting for the t-mo at&t fiasco right now, im really going to jump to t-mo if they dont get bought, cause at&t will do god knows what to the best family plan carrier on the market.

i have only known of the thunderbolt having the locked bootloader, but its easily bypassed. it makes you wonder are they implementing more steps to protect themselves? who knows. as of right now the htc brand is the main brand people use to customize their androids

and you did leave, you quit going to the "bro" thread :p

Oh - that! I thought no one was reading my posts. :D

Yeah - Froyo brought a big improvement to the battery life on my Evo as well, even stock. (I run stock rooted with a custom kernel for performance, not battery saving - that's available, too.)

HTC changes the lock from time to time on their bootloader, trying to make it harder to unlock.

Locked bootloaders is an exercise in building a better mousetrap. It's a perfect approach except for the one fact that the rooting and independent dev communities aren't mice, they're more like junkyard dogs.

i look at it as htc trying to make better hackers out of the dev community. and besides i cant find the bro thread anymore. mainly because i just quit looking for it :p

Good posts, I think I'll post my question here instead of another thread.

I've been using the same candybar phone (Samsung, SGH-A727) for almost 5 years, and I've decided it's about time for an upgrade. I'm looking for an AT&T phone, strongly considering the Atrix 4G, based on reviews. I don't mind waiting a few more months for a better android phone to come out. What are the pros of Android over the iPhone OS?

I'd like to use my phone as a music player with quality earphones, so good sound quality would be a big plus. I don't like Macbooks or ipods very much, and owning an ipod touch for a few months made me realize I like having real buttons for music players. I think the ipod touch is a horrible music player, and I don't want a phone that plays music in a similar fashion.

This is nit-picky, but I like being able to change songs by merely pressing 1 button without turning on the screen, and re-locking it (ipod touch can't do this). I'm not sure if the Atrix can do this, but any phone that can would get serious consideration by me, especially if sound quality is good. I place being able to change songs like this high on the priority list, as I find changing songs to be distracting while doing work. You have to look away, turning the screen on distracts me in my peripheral vision, and I'd rather not deal with that. It seems like phones that do this are non-touch screen phones. Combining my music player and cell phone into 1 would be great.

The phone needs at least 16 gb, preferably 32 gb with access to microsd. Thanks for reading this, and any help finding the right phone for me would be appreciated. If you think the Atrix 4G is right for me, let me know.

I don't really think high end phones battery will last much if you are a music addict.
Get a cheapo Cowon as a music player ;)
My Cowon player lasts 52 hours between charges (Official numbers)
Real numbers could be around 40-48 depending on EQ settings or volume. :D

Sorry as heck for the side-chatter, gang, but it couldn't be avoided in this case, thanks for your patience.

I just upgraded to the HTC Thunderbolt and I'm loving it! I've been playing with it nonstop for days! Can't go wrong with it in my opinion. At least that's the way I'm feeling right now. We'll see if I still feel that way as I get more time on it over the next few months.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I sent Phases a PM, hopefully I picked names that haven't been chosen yet.

Hope you like the Thunderbolt, let us know how you like it! I'll look into the Inspire, any other suggestions would be great.

I knew Cowon made quality music players, but I didn't know the battery life was so long, wow. That's great, might have to buy one myself. It'll have to wait for my phone to come first though :)

Actually if you get a Cowon player, get one that has some time because usually new ones are buggy ;)

BTW, shopped for a Galaxy S today, guess what . . . Only found these in 4 shops, 2 sold them for 700.00$, 1 for 680.00$ and 1 for 539.99$!!!

But the one for 539.99$ is a T-Mobile phone LOL (Vibrant)
I don't know if it would be a good choice to get one of those, not sure if they're refurbished and don't know if i might lockup the cellphone when i rom, flash or update x_X
