Root Is it necessary to do both a Nandroid & titanium backup?

do i need both to get a full restore? thanks

You do not. If you DO use Titanium, you want to backup data/apps only because backing up and restoring system settings may mess you up when you move from one ROM to the other.

A Nandroid backup is a snapshot of your exact setup at the time that you perform the backup. As long as you are on a Froyo ROM, you can backup on any ROM and revert back to those exact settings with a simple nandroid restore. You cannot, however, use a Froyo nandroid on a GBread ROM and vice versa.

alprazolam, I'm on the new gingerbread 4.5.588. I'm looking to throw a theme on it. If I do a backup, which should I do for the best result? Some say doing a nandroid backup is notorious for failure. I have TiBu to backup my apps and personal data but have yet to have to use it because, well, everything on GB is running fine.

So which backup would be the best way to go? Nandroid or CWM?

So the nandroid(why is it called that?) backup is basically similar to cloning a hard drive? All apps, settings, text messages, etc. will be there when you restore?

Currently, I do both. Sometimes I don't really want to go back to a nandroid backup. I may just want to go back to the clean ROM and just allow Tibu to restore apps and data. Other times, I want to go see what everyone's talking about with a theme or ROM, so I nandroid, go check out the other and can quickly come back to where I'm at with nothing lost.

I have never had a nandroid failure and I've used it probably 20 or so times. Just remember that if you were having problems with a setup and you nandroid that, when you come back, the problems will be there.

Another thing that is helpful is to mount your sd card and go on it to rename the backups to a meaningful title. It sucks to look back at a bunch of dates and you don't have a clue what you backed up.

O'k, thanks. Looks like I will do the nandroid backup as I want to do the same as you, check out the theme and if I don't like it I can get back to where I was.
