Help How to save an X

So I'm jealous of some of the X users out there, mostly the one who buried his X in the snow overnight and it still worked. My X fell in the animals' water dish for mere seconds, I quickly pulled the battery and then placed it in a bag of rice overnight and the next morning................ NOTHING!! So unfortunately I had to go to VW and purchase another X.

Well my questions now is does anyone have any tricks or tips to try and get my waterlogged X to work again. When I plug it into the charger the notification light tries to glow but the screen does nothing. Every now and then the hard buttons will light but that's about as far as it goes. I've got a T5 screwdriver on the way and I'm going to open her up and see what's going on inside but didn't know if anyone has any help they can provide.

If rice didn't work try finding some packs or loose silica gel granules. A lot of flower/craft shops carry it.

And it could take several days in the rice/silica gel to get all the moisture out. Plugging it in may have fried it, however. Just a bit of moisture with the electricity applied could have shorted something out. Lets hope not.

Ouch. This isn't what you wanna hear, but water damage is water damage. If water killed your phone, hold a funeral.

Occasionally-- OCCASIONALLY-- given enough time the phone could dry out and work again (we're talking a few days to a week). Usually though, when your phone's that far gone, the best you can hope is for partial functionality. What you did was pretty much all you can do-- pull the battery, don't turn it on, leave it in rice (or something else that will pull moisture).
If it ever happens again, maybe leave it in the rice for longer than overnight, say a full day or two.


edit: when I say "water killed your phone," I mean that once water damage has definitely 100% wrecked your phone, you can just open it up and move some wires around-- it's gone. But yes, definitely try letting it dry out for longer yet... it might not have ACTUALLY killed your phone.

The thing that causes lasting damage is that, once it's dried out, oftentimes the water will leave mineral deposits and such. If it was just wetness that was causing a problem, all you'd ever have to do is wait until your phone isn't wet anymore.

So I guess we can extrapolate, if you're going to drop your phone in water... try to do it in filtered water?

Yep. Better make it distilled. Many electronic parts are actually washed in a distilled water bath before being assembled.

Rice can work in as little as 24 hours, but it also can take several days.
