Root Galaxy/Stock android on behold 2 - It flies!

once extracted I didn't find the Odin Multi Downloader v4.03.exe

The only thing there was

- amss
- cache.img
- kernel
- recovery
- system

I saw that same step-by-step, however the provided tar file does not contain ANY of the files listed.

affirmative.

SMS works fine. You need to make sure you factory reset otherwise the dalvik cache will be for old files, and the apks won't create their data in the datadb sqls.

Also speakerphone is also working.

Vibration might be working soon, everyone is too busy to test it :p

This is one thing I miss about my old blackberrys, you could download any rom specific to your model, strip out any modules you did not want, delete the vendor.xml file, & load it up.

So SMS does work!? Sweet. I'm wanting to do this and get rid of TouchWiz, so I think I might do it now since vibration is the only thing that doesn't work at the moment.

Do you think it will be just a couple days until vibration is fixed? Should I wait for that?

Ok, miss read factory reset. Menu -> Settings -> SD card & phone storage -> Factory data reset.

Messaging works now.

Does this new Rom read the battery correctly now, because with touchwiz it always shows fully charged st 95%

One last question, does anyone know where I can find a good adb tutorial?

I googled it but the best I came up with was the sdk site.

Yea! Got it working on my first try. Now to install apps and see how battery life and performance goes. First impression is that it is much more responsive.

I bought a N1 so I can experiment with this phone some.

Kernel Source code from Samsung for the Behold II is out... anyone wanna tweak it?

Is there a possible way to tweak in a sort of emulator before getting it on the phone? I might take a hit at it but don't want to risk bricking this awesome phone I got for free.

I believe you can tweak it, build it and run it on the AVD system in the Android SDK... I don't know how to do it but i believe you can.

so now that we got android stock 1.5, how close are we to seeing anything higher than 1.5, I mean he** I would at least like to have 1.6

I have a question... So we can compile a "Vanilla Android 2.1" from the SDK. Can we use the drivers/kernel from the kernel source code... mix it in with the SDK 2.1 version and throw it on the phone???

Is the kernel specifically made for a version of android or is it universal to all versions?

In the source:
I found: kernel\drivers\ps3
with files inside to control/manage the PS3 system. (Turn on, off, etc)

Is there a way to activate those modules/drivers and actually connect your phone through bluetooth to the PS3 and control it? On, Off and move around in the menu?

That would be pretty interesting... specially if you can get Remote Play to work on an android device!

You'll have to make sure you copy down the message center number.

And I suppose now that they figured out how to do this, that maybe the source code from Samsung could be tweaked. I for one am holding off on doing this as I'm one of the few who like TouchWiz(don't hit me :P ). Though since they haven't cracked the boot loader, it may still be a while.

Keep up the good work.

PS: It would be nice to see a complete noob's guide to this. I for one dont know what it means "to odin"

You know, I was cool with the phone, until I tried to add a contact, from someone who called me. That was the most frustrating event ever...Took me all of 10 minutes. I've been happy ever since!!!! give it a whirl.....everything really works except the speakerphone, and I don't use it anyway...

Kam187: you are a god among men! Funny how the site went back up right as we finished in IRC.

I can't thank you enough!

I cant thank you guys enough for all your hard work!
I installed it with zero problems, only thing let is vibrate and I believe we have ourselves the first custom stable rom for the behold 2:D
