Help Help: Replacing the SD Card

Newbie
So I’m a couple months into my new Shift, and I think I will need some extra SD storage at some point. So my question is: what is the process for swapping out the 2gb card with a new 8 or 16gb card? I’ve read other posts that say to 1) copy all the contents of the current 2gb card to a PC, 2) take out the current card install a new card, 3) format it, and then 4) copy all the files and folders from the PC back to the phone. Is this correct? Anyone have any other suggestions or issues with this process?

Also, any recommendations on type of card (Sandisk, Kingston, etc.) and best place to purchase?

That's basically it. Copy your files onto your pc, swap SD cards then copy it over to your new SD card. As far as brands, I've always used sandisk without any problems but I recently bought a Kingston 16 gb because it was a little cheaper and it seems to be working fine. Look on Amazon, they have pretty good prices on micro sd cards.

Thanks! Any thoughts about copying files to the new card while in the phone or do it all via the pc first and then putting the card in?

When I swap SD cards I just plug my phone in to the pc and copy the files.. Then swap sd cards in the phone and copy over to the new card. Never had a problem and I've changed cards twice on my Shift. After you swap the cards you may want to reboot to take care of anything wonky.

Thanks! I'm going to give it a try. I plan on purchasing a Kingston 16gb class 4 card in from a local retailer here soon. I'll report my results.

That's exactly what I'm using. Ive had it about a week and haven't had any issues.

Swapped out my 2gb card with the Kingston 16gb class 4 card with no problems. Very easy...guess I stressed out for nothing! So glad to have a ton of space for movies, music and apps.
