Looks like I need to unroot! How?

You also didn't need to do the update, you could of saved yourself some time, as you will be rooting it again
The update only took a couple minutes. No biggie. Sprint is puzzled though because my phone still does not apply the programming or something. I enter the phone number and some other number like they tell me to, then press "Menu" and tap to commit the changes, the phone reboots, then no calls can be placed or received. 3G, GPS, and wi-fi work, but Sprint can't call me and I can't call at all. Just error messages each time.

Rooting again would be done but this phone may end up under the tires of my truck if this doesn't get straightened out.

Call them back and ask for second level tech support, if still no luck, then tell them to put a notation on your future account and you will take it to a Sprint repair shop and have then look at it, they may still give you a refurbished one.

I already spoke with them and they escalated it to tech support, then to a tech supervisor. Nothing worked. So they said they will note my account and I will take it into a Sprint store when a get a chance on Monday. A refurb would be fine if they can't get this problem figured out, but of course they reminded me that I am eligible for an upgrade, but not as good a deal (probably) I will get if I can wait until the account contract is ready to expire later this year. Plus the newer and better phones will be out. I would rather have a newer and better phone than an Evo, since they are getting dated too.

Kool, you have the Nexus S coming this Sunday, Mothers day, and in a month or 2 the new EVO 3D will be out, so at least you have something to look forward too, keep us posted.

Whatever the problem was with my phone, it was really messed up in a few ways. The software was buggy, according to the service tech at the Sprint store, even after he reloaded the OS. So he switched out my phone for either a new or refurb Hero, I really can't tell which as it looks brand new. It works much better than the old one, but slow as hell, and I miss the CM 7 fun that comes with a custom rom, so I need to root this bad boy.

This will easily last me until the EVO 3D comes out. They had the Nexus S but I don't know yet how the Nexus S compares to the EVO 3D, especially since the Nexus S has been out a while.

Overall I can't say enough good about Sprint from this experience. They took excellent care of me both over the phone and even moreso at the retail store. It was obvious they wanted to make sure I was happy and that my problem was solved.

DAMN! Rooting with that Z4root zip file was easier than my date last Saturday, and that is saying something! Took a couple of minutes, flashed the Clockwork Mod recovery, then just wiped everything and did a nand restore from a few days ago. Everything looks like it should and is up and running great.

Awesomeness is in big supply here.

Glad it worked out, now your ready top flash again, and I don't mean your last date, LOL
