Help Removing Apps

Newbie
I am the sort of person that has a desktop with literally no icons. I'd like to have a phone that is able to do something along those lines. Without rooting (b.c. for now I'm hesitant to brick my phone but that's a topic for a different day) is it possible to "remove" apps? Ideally I want them off the phone completely so they don't take up space / memory / battery life. If that's not possible can they at least be "hidden". All the review videos I've seen have tons of apps I'll never use (facebook, blockbuster etc.) on the screens.

I don't actually have the phone yet but its the front runner while I wait to see if the Revolution is a better option for me.

Not trying to sound smart, but why do you want a phone with no apps? You can keep a clean phone by keeping apps in the app drawer. Apps really don't use power unless accessed. Widgets are different though

BTW phones come pre loaded with apps and widgets.

Without rooting, those apps will have to stay. However, you can download LauncherPro and it will give you the ability to hide any of them in your app menu. I think I have around 15 hidden on my Incredible right now.

I do know what you mean. I'm new to the Android OS. My wife and I upgraded from Blackberries only recently. I let her pick her phone first (the Thunderbolt) so I could try it out vicariously. I must say all the apps that come with the phone are quite annoying at first. BUT here's where I got over the hump mentally. If you think of the home screen(s) as your desktop and the "app drawer" literally as a drawer under your desk, it really is not that bad. The home screen (and the multiple home screens are a nice touch) can be as cluttered or organized as you want. Once you deck out your home screens with the apps you use every day. You never have to see the cacophony of useless programs that come with the phone.

I wasn't clear. Not having the apps show up on the homescreen(s) is what I was looking for. The review vids I've watched as the person cycles through the screens just have a ton of icons. I just wanted to make sure that I don't have to have things I'll never use on these screens.

You can easily remove anything from the screen by long-pressing on the icon and dragging it into the trash can at the bottom of the screen. While dragging the icon, it will turn red when you're over the area where it can be removed.

I recently picked up the charge after trying nexus but the antenna strength on the nexus was much weaker than our other droids.....so I went charge :(

Anyway, this phone has 4 pages of " bloat" apps installed on the phone....again wishing I had nexus. Anyway, can I safely dump these in the trash? Not uninstall
Because I know things like vz apps or rhapsody can't be uninstalled.

I can't find anything on this in the users guide. I might be swapping again...because of apps and contacts doubling.
