HTC Gingerbread update.

It would seem you and I are facing the same problems!

indeed sir! How annoying! I don't think the server is overloaded they simply haven't rolled it out properly yet, how yours came through I will never know. Perhaps you were lucky enough to press the update button at a time when they were doing a temporary roll out? god only knows, all I know is that either they aren't communicating properly at all internally or some of the talking heads who answer the phone are just intentionally dumb. I'm leaning towards the latter

The people who are not getting the updates.. are you branded? Not sure branded (apart from voda) is out yet..

Not sure about the others but if you read my post a few mins ago I am definitely branded Orange in the UK, have been with them for about 12 years, on contract, waiting and waiting and waiting for my gingerbread update..... :(

As I mentioned I actually called them and the guy I spoke to, probably in Dubai or ummigummigum gum land said he was aware of the delay as he has been having calls about it a lot and apparently the department that handles it hasn't announced anything yet so he put another request through to speed it along for me but he doesn't know when it will come out. big sigh

Ok for me. No issues with app or settings. Update when smoothly. Only Issue I got was with native app. But this is on another thread.

Screen Is definately brighter and clearer. And for me I dont notice any difference In speaker volume. Mine Is still bad. Oh well ill live with it until next phone......

All in all happy with update........

Ok cool. I don't think Orange has brought out the update for its branded devices. So I guess you have to wait. I might be wrong as I have an unbranded handset and I am on Orange and got the update yesterday. Can anyone on here confirm if branded software for Orange has rolled out yet?

Ok, I might have mislead people, with my understanding of what 'Branded' actually means.

My phone is on an Orange contract, but came from the CPWH, I assumed that is what is meant by branded - it does not have the orange logo anywhere on the phone.

Appologies, twas my fault. :(

Check your software, if it has X.405.X then it is unbranded.

Also it is based on IMEI number of your handset (HTC claims this) and it is slowly being rolled out over 5 days. I guess just refresh and check.

If you switch the phone off, take the battery out then hold the Menu button when you switch it on the phone should then enter safe mode. From there you should be able to disable the custom keyboard you have and get it all working again.

Your way worked but not as you said it.
I tried pressing the menu button but nothing happened.
I though the only option left to me was a hard reset so i pressed volume low button + power button and somehow it took me to safe mood where my original keyboard was appearing and i was able to login into the phone and delete swype and any other custom keyboards for that matter :P

And now i am back on android 2.3.3

Thanks for your help man :)

no sweat mate, definitely has to have an orange logo ON the phone, if it was bought from car phone warehouse then it is not bound to their server updates etc. Mine is fully Orange I'm sad to say! So I will undoubtedly have a long time to wait.

anyone else on Orange still waiting like me? This sucks balls man... my girlfriend has a Samsung Galaxy S on Orange contract in the UK, same as me and I connected her phone to our laptop about 3 weeks ago and it updated straight away via the Samsung kieys software... why the hell am I still waiting today??

Is your GF's Samsung Unbranded or branded. Just because she got the handset directly from Orange, doesn't necessarily mean it's branded. Does she have a load of Orange apps on the phone and does an Orange logo appear when she switches on?

I took the innitiative and phoned Orange to see what there take is and the guy said no android devices on Orange have 2.3 yet, so if thats the case why does my girlfriends Samsung on Orange have it?? idiots at Orange or what. So he goes on to say that they are aware of the problem and the demand is high, they still have no firm date for when Android 2.3 will be released so I simply said I'd call back again in a couple weeks.

He might be correct that no Orange Branded handsets have 2.3 yet, but Unbranded handsets who happen to have an Orange Sim Card in them will have the update.

I checked on HTC's site and the only download you can get for it is the HTC Sense program dated January, no seperate drivers or anything so I guess I can ONLY get it when Orange pull their fingers out of their collective asses.... wonderful!

It's not really Orange's fault, they probably only just received it to work on from HTC.

So how nigsy got the update is baffelling me totally, mines an orange branded HTC Desire HD and still nothing!!

What is your software number? Maybe Nigsy (like me) had unbranded software on his handset, but HTC/Orange still thought he was branded.

Unbranded on Three, had totally forgotten about the update, decided to just have a check and its there and ready. With only 20% battery remaining i think i shall wait until i get home to do this. Anyone noticed any apps not working so far with the update?

Some of the extended control toggles don't function as you'd expect, Swype doesn't work properly apparently (although a re install may fix) and some gameloft games don't work. That's all I've picked up on from reading here so far.

I've also noticed the volume seems to likes to intermittantly reset itself to full.

Usually when i file browse in Astro I get the folders - asec, sdcard and secure. Right after the update, a new folder showed up called "obb". Do you know what its for?

Hey there, yep her phone is fully branded with the Orange symbol on the back etc. I'm sure that anyone WITHOUT a branded phone will probably have it by now i was just saying that so far it seems contract Orange HTC Desire HD's don't seem to be getting it.

my software number is 1.84.61.2, not sure if thats the right number or not but hey... both our phones have standard Orange apps that we sadly can't remove so I'm pretty sure they are Orange Branded!

Just checked it again and still nothing!
