Help How: open URLs HTC people app?

How can I open url stored in htc address book when I am on my HTC Evo?

I have many urls stored as urls in various gmail address book entries.

That info is present in the "people" app but cannot open those urls directly. I have to edit the contact and then copy the url manually and paste it into the browser.

Any tips or workarounds?

Thanks
Doug

I tried it and added the google url to a one of the contacts in my address book under the field which said "website". The next time I went into their contact, I was able to press the website box with the url in it and it took me to google.com.

I then updated their contact with a different address via my gmail account and PC, using the url field on their entry in the contacts section, saved and synced my handset with the gmail account. Again, the url was pressable in the website section of their phonebook entry.

I suspect the urls haven't been input into the website or url fields when entered on the handset or web respectively. Do the urls you want to access appear under the notes field in the address book? That looks to be a dumping ground for any information stored for that particular contact Android doesn't know what to do with.

Make sense?

The urls do appear under the heading website but nothing happens when I short and long press the url. Additionally when in the address book and I short press the picture the usual options are there: map address, email, call and message. There is no url link.

I am running stock android 2.2 with the people app version 1.00

Question: do you have any apps installed which enhance the address book functionality?

Thanks...

I'm running Android 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1, people app version 2.1.

I've Go Launcher installed, but that doesn't add any extra features to the phone book, it's still the standard Sense phone book that came with the phone.

Did the addresses pull down from your gmail contacts when you got the phone or did you enter the urls on the handset?

Also, when you say "Stock Android", do you mean a vanilla version with no Sense overlay?

If so, let me know and I can take a look at my GF's handset as that's what she's running.

The url's were part of the contact that was pulled from Google. There is no way to add a url into a contact via the people app on my handset. Maybe that functionality was introduced in gingerbread and people 2.x because it doesn't appear to be in froyo and people 1.0.

And to answer your other question I m running android 2.2 from sprint. My phone has not been rooted. It came with sense built in via ota upgrade last summer/fall. Afaik Sprint hasn't pushed gingerbread yet.
Thanks Doug

I am not sure if this app will work with your phone, but I was having trouble opening websites too from contacts page until I downloaded GO CONTACTS app from the android market. After downloading it, I found that I could go to my contacts page and if my contact had a website url on it, it would be listed as HOMEPAGE on the contact page and I could click right on it to go directly to that website. I still had to enter any url's via my gmail account (full site on my mobile phone) if I hadn't done so already but most of my contacts in gmail had their websites on their contact info and I just made sure all were synced to my phone.

I got the Sprint Gingerbread update which also updated HTC People to v1.00.000.061076.651 and Url's are still not clickable with long or short press....

Bummed.
