Help This phone's internal space problems, question

I got LG optimus V 2 weeks ago and overall its a nice phone but it seems this limited internal space and the need for all programs to take up some space despite using app2sd is a combination that essentially drastically limits the amount of apps that can be installed on the phone. When I looked at reviews of the phone people mostly said it was amazing and never mentioned this seemingly huge flaw. Even if they gave us 512 megs or maybe a gig of internal storage than we would have more breathing room... but with like 170 megs or so.. not much can be installed.

Also I don't understand this whole issue of text messages not being received because of space limitations. I mean they are text messages how much space can they really take up?

I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks so much!
 
Likely most people will never notice it. I've downloaded about all the apps I want and still have ~50mb of space left so I don't really consider it a problem. If you need more there are apps available that can put everything on the SD card, but I believe with all of them your phone has to be rooted.

I don't know what it is. Maybe epocrates is taking up so much space. Also I got a fair amount of apps and games but I always thought I'd only be limited by my SD card. I posted a thread about rooting and just a few questions I have about it. I will consider it especially since you can unroot which is great so that I might not void my warranty then?

Maybe I can't expect much... but I did think people would at least complain about this issue on their reviews. But as filmbuff stated, maybe most people just never hit this limit. Maybe I'm doing/installing something wrong.
 
I've got 95mb left on mine. I have 12 or so apps I downloaded. I'm not all app crazy lile some people so I'm not complaining. This is a great phone although it isn't perfect.. I'm paying 25 bucks a month for service so I am keeping my lips shut about the little issues these phones have lol.
 
Root it then get a bigger sd card and format it into 2 fat 32 partitions install Link2SD and you can move a lot of applications including their cache to the sd card. You do not have to flash a new rom or anything like that. Just need the drivers superoneclick and then install superuser from the market on your phone. I have done this and it has allowed me to install a lot more applications without getting phone is full messages all the time.
 
I just bought the Optimus today, and updated/installed 42 apps. I still have 50% internal space free, because I moved all I could to the SD. Still have 94% of the SD card free.

Seems fine to me.
 
I have 91 apps currently installed/updated, but have probably tried about 200 different apps since getting my phone. I have about 30mb free and have moved as much as possible to my phone's SD card. One thing I think is that when you first install an app, immediately move it to the card if it's moveable, otherwise it will create some files in internal memory. I actually uninstalled some apps I didnt do this with initially and reinstalled them and gained back a good chunk of space.

One thing thats kind of annoying is that some apps will move completely over, while some will only move roughly half of their total size over. And forget it if the app has any kind of widget...cant move it at all

Quite a few apps can't be moved to SD without rooting. Facebook is one and that is 7.5megs. I use a geocaching app that is 7megs and it too can't be moved. It all adds up pretty quickly.
 
You get a smartphone for apps, it seems to me anyway. Mine is a constant battle, I will root mine when the warranty is up. For an extra $5 they could have put a 1Gb in. Better yet, let us delete apps we don't want and that would solve the problem too.

Settings -> Manage Applications -> Select App -> Uninstall
If you are talking about preinstalled aps, those are on a different partition and even if removed do not free up the 178megs of internal RAM.

I would say that's on the app author as much as the phone. I don't see any reason why a geocaching app couldn't be programmed to be Apps2SD compatible.

It has been added to the list of changes needed for the app. Since that post I have since rooted my android and am using link2sd. I am hovering around 75megs of free internal ram right now.
 
Plenty of room on my sd card, no room left on the internal. About half is stuff I can't uninstall and the rest are apps I can't move.

I don't want to root but I might have to.
