Release date: 6/24 nationwide; 6/21 for SP members.

This is typical sprint. They announce their flagship months before it is ready and then dump it on the market after everyone has already caught up. It is like they really don't care that they give the whole punch line away before they finish the joke.

I wish they would fire the guy that thanks this is a full strategy, this is what happens when a strategy fails.

Still say june 4th is when they are going to release it. I really think they learned from last year, and not announce it too early, because apple really drummed hard last year, completely drowning out everything.

Let us look how the professionals release a phone.

Droid charge- april 21st announced- released april 28th. 7 days
Iphone 4- june 8th announced- released june 22nd. 16 days
HTC thunderbolt- jan 8th announced- released march 17th ( after a massive bug and software delay.) 82 days
motorola atrix- Feb 8 announced- released feb 22nd. 16 days.

Even with a massive failed launch that required unpacking and updating each and every devices, verizon managed to get the release with in 90 days.

Everyone wants to know the point of this post, when sprint takes this long to deliver the product it does 3 things.

1.) In the mind of the consumer, it makes the product already too old. 2 or 3 months of release times, is about 1/5 to 1/4 of the phones productive release life. Sprint wastes the best momentum it has by keeping the phone off the shelves. To the consumer, it is really old news by the time the phone actually is buy able.

2.) Att and Verizon get to look at the play book of sprint months ahead of time. If they want to change a commercial to focus on a weakness of a product, they can do it in house. Sprint just hands over their play book to the other team every spring, and wonders why the other team always wins.

3.) Sprint always wants to go blow per blow with someone big. They always want a fight. They announce and wait for the enemy to do release then try to get into a slug feast with a person 10 times their size.

I really like sprint, but they just waste time and energy on this stupid politics game.

If they really want to win, create the evo 3d specs, announce it today and then say, go to the local sprint store and pick it up today. It will create a frantic feeding frenzy.

Your logic is fairly sound, except for Verizon announced several phones in Jan that haven't hit yet, LG Revolution and the Moto Bionic.

Every company does the announce, and then wait too long to sell it game every year. The only differenece is that Verizon will wait until the day they sell something to say when it will be on sale, and Sprint gives a couple weeks (normally) notice between the release date and the day it goes on sale.

I have looked into my crystal ball and predict a summer 2011 release for the 3VD (ucwatididthar?)

To be honest, I won't get the $125 credit unless I port my # over in mid-July...so, I would rather the phone come out towards the end of June beginning of July. That way I can get the review before I order mine towards the end of July. :)

Well -- verizon issue is a bit unique; they can't decide how to price LTE. They did release thunderbird and charger (last gen phones on LTE) but seems to holding everything else up. Mean while this year gen phones that are not LTE are being released (driod 2x and similar). They did announce the decision to go to tier pricing for lte but not yet the prices. I suspect when that is worked out they will bring out phones rather quickly. Not sure about the Bionic; it too might be a special case beyond lte; i.e, the atrix had serious issues over at at&t not sure how much the Bionic shared with the atrix but I suspect quite a bit.

As for the Evo3d; not sure. No FCC info yet seems to suggest issues or design changes. I wish I had paid closer attention but it seems like FCC leaks usually arrive 3+ weeks before the actual device is available but maybe the window is shorter in some cases ?

Not really, no :p Oh wait maybe... 3 = E, D = O? I agree summer 2011 all the way lol. Was your crystal ball the Sprint website? ;) I seriously hope they're trying to pull a ninja move here. The problem is, it's not like Apple where they are guaranteed fly off the shelf just because they have an Apple logo on them... And I agree with RiverOfIce that this strategy is just going to make the phone seem old when we finally get it. Like I said in a previous post, making us wait so long is just going to make it so that the phone doesn't live up to the anticipation we've all built up :(

Totally non-official hearsay, but when I was out to lunch today I asked at my local Sprint Store (corporate) and I was told "end of June". She did not seem at all uncertain.

But then again, 5 minutes after that I asked at the RS 2 blocks away and I was told June 6 (then he tried to push the pre-order on me).

I know I really contributed nothing of substance. Sorry :)

I thought they weren't supposed to push pre-orders yet? Maybe cause you asked about the phone.

I would think that Sprint would announce something this week. On April 26th they announced when the Nexus S would be released so I wouldn't really expect them to go more than a month without announcing when their next big phone (Evo 3D, Galaxy S2, or Motorola Photon) would be released would they?

I thought they were trying to announce the phone early to match some of the other companies announcements, to say" hey, we're coming out with a new phone too." Maybe they thought it would help with the envy sprint customers had as they heard new phones on all of the other networks. Seems like they were trying to make it appear that they were on pace with other companies even when they weren't.

Not announcing keeps many on the hook.

If I understand you right, this is a good point. They may have announced it early to keep people from leaving Sprint for all the awesome phones coming out. Never thought of it that way :-)

Today Sprint Just announced an event with Motorola on June 9th

Sprint and Motorola holding press event on June 9th

And also rumor is this event will be the announcement of Sprints version of the Atrix to be released next month.

http://workhappens.org/gadget-info/rumor-sprint-is-finally-getting-a-tegra-2-android-phone-next-month.html

Now if this device is getting launched first this is very bad news for a June release of the Evo 3D. I dont think Sprint will release two big phones in same month.

If this is the case and the Atrix is coming to Sprint end of June we wont be seeing the Evo 3D until atleast July probably August.

I hope I am wrong and reading too much into this.

Are you kidding me Sprint?

Ugh, I worry that spridell could be right. Even though it seems like the 3D may be finished from a software and hardware standpoint, it wouldn't at all surprise me to see Sprint shelve it for a couple of months and build up a bit of stock because of something like an Atrix launch, thinking that they'll get their sales either way.

Now I'm about 90% certain we WON'T see the Evo3D in June, and it likely won't be until later in the summer based on this. It wouldn't surprise me in the least. I had the original Evo, returned it within the 30 days as soon as the Evo 3D was announced, I figured why pay $200 for the old version of a phone when the replacement is coming in a couple months? I'm stuck using my POS TP2 and can't stand it. I was set on getting the Evo3D, but if it isn't announced in the next month and won't be available until the end of summer, then I may say screw it and get another device.

Since the Evo is still selling well, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Sprint/HTC hold off on the Evo3D for a few months to try and sell more of their existing stock of Evo's.

Or reversed. The Evo3D could come in June and the Atrix is coming in July/August. That leaves a likely August/September release for the Samsung Within.

And or the Sprint Iphone.

Does anyone know if it's possible (aka allowable) to say buy a phone in June say the Nexus S or Evo 4g, return it 25-30 days later, to by another phone, say this new Motorolla, then return that phone 25-30 days later, after the Evo3D is released, and buy the Evo3D?

In other words I'm sick of my Blackberry and my upgrade is up in June and I want some sort of Droid phone to hold me over till the Evo 3D comes out.

That's very possible. I just find it hard to believe they would be releasing the Evo3D in June, being as it's already the end of May and they haven't even officially announced the price or when it will be on sale. Especially with all the pre-orders being taken, there has got to be some reason why they are holding off on making an official release date public.

While it very well could come in June, being as it's the end of May with absolutely no word from Sprint on this device in over 2 months since it was introduced, I'm highly skeptical we'll see it anytime soon as something definitely smells like fish to me. I hope I'm wrong however as I'd love to see it sooner rather then later.

Ok so literally just minutes ago, I went on to the sprint website to ponder over their mobile plans, a chat window popped up so I decided to play along and fish for some info...

I asked the customer service rep about the plans and phones etc, then told them I was actually interested in "some new evo 3d phone" I had been hearing about. She told be about the current promotion ($125 for porting your # over from another carrier or something to that effect..). She told me that the promotion ended in mid-July. I responded with "Ugh, well I hope the new evo is out by then, that sounds like a great promotion". She assured me that they are expecting the evo 3d by the end of June.

So according to this rep (grain of salt included), it will luckily be before July, but unfortunately may well into the month of June or at the end of it. Looks like the Sensation might get a head start after all. Sadness.

Based on the lack of release date, what you said would make much more sense. It seems more likely we'd see it released end of June or even into July, rather then early to mid June. They would announce release date at least 2 weeks prior to actual launch I'd think. Although I still wonder if they are releasing the Atrix phone in June, would they release 2 major phones in the same month? If not, then it would make sense to see the Evo3D be beginning of July.

Sprint will only allow you to trade phones once. So you can get a phone now, return it before the 30 days is up and switch, but then you are stuck with that phone, so it better be one you like.

June 3 or 4 could be the release date still, but since I'm still on the fence about upgrading from my current EVO and I've been digging for more info on the Motorola Photon 4G (as it continues to get leaked), I came across an article talking about a BIG Sprint/Motorola event that will have both Dan Hesse and Sanjay Jha (Motorola CEO) in attendance. That event is scheduled for June 9. Seems kinda odd to me that they'd release the EVO 3D (assumed to be the new flagship device), but then have a HUGE event for Sprint/Motorola shortly after the EVO 3D is released?

All that said, was the EVO 3D confirmed by Sprint as the new "flagship" device?

The converse is they delay the evo 3d till after the event which points to July or later.
