[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Hey, I found the 5/23 release linked in MahaloCat's post above (on this page). I guess I don't have the latest after all! Not sure who can make the update, but it'd be great if the link on the first page of this thread was to the 5/23 release rather than 5/16. I'll get to flashin'...

I see that now thanks for the heads up. The link says 5/23 but does in fact take you to the 5/16 download. I download from another website but I'll be sure to let donb know to update the link.

And yes you did do a full flash. Funny your text messaging wasn't working I haven't heard of anyone else having that problem. Hopefully when you flash the 5/23 this will fix it for you.

I got the 5/23 up and running and the alarm clock works fine now. Thanks! Still not sure about messaging since I don't know if any came in since the re-flash, but I'll find out later.

I will fix it, I kn ow I put the 5/.23 release yesterday, I will check it again, sorry

Just wanted to let everyone know that I successfully flashed the firat mod and wow! I still can't believe how much memory was freed up. I have more than double what is on stock AOSP. I recommend everyone at least look into this, it just makes your Hero feel a little crisper with all that space. And everything can be done from the phone as long as you're on CWM recovery. I can help if anyone needs it :)

Read the WiKi
i did. nothing worth flashing it (even cache/davlik only), unless the clock stupefies one or one has to flash anyway. unless of course, you count all the fantastic miracles that are happening as a result of this rom over on xda! :)

i would like to see an ODEX version.

i thought about it, and despite the market issue being resolved, it just seems problematic to me. I'd probably be more apt to use it if I needed more space. I have ~30MB on /data (moved a few things to /system/app) as well as a few apps to SD, and I can't think of anything else I want installed (currently ~50 apps)

If I were in to mobile games on the Heroc, it'd be a different story.

On a whole other tip... my fav app as of late has to be samba filsharing... no more mounting my SD.. plug phone into charger --> CM kicks in which WiFi only --> smb accessible sd card = presto! That and VLC pro is pretty cool too (and also alleviates from mounting).

Thanks for updating the link to the 5/23 release, DonB. Mine is up and running great, I love it all, but I'm still no receiving any texts! Never had a problem before. Can send with the stock messaging app and Handcent, but won't receive at all.

Any last ideas before I nandroid back to Froyo?

Yes, I would Nandroid back to your stock rooted Rom, send a few text and make sure you are able to receive them also, also update your profile and PRL at the same time, then Nandroid back to your current Rom and try again, report back

Okay, I restored a backup I had made five days ago, but still couldn't receive messages. Then I went back to a backup from September when I was running my original 2.1, rooted. Messaging works.

What means update my profile and PRL?

Go to settings> about phone> system updates. Then choose update prl then update profile.

After that I would try and flash 5/23 and see if you can receive texts.

I've been out of the rooting scene for a while and I'm don't really know what's going on. Can anyone tell me why there's 3 files to download? Am I supposed to download all three of them and install them or am I to pick whatever I like best? Thanks in advance!

System updates isn't listed under settings> about phone. I'm running the 3/26 build. Is it supposed to be there. I noticed this on my wifes phone as well and she is on a newer build.

I was trying to update her PRL because I purchased her phone used from someone in another region and wanted to make sure it was up to date.

Okay, so I figured out what the first two files are, but I don't know what's the third one. What's it for? BTW, my market is not working. I installed both apks for the Market/vending and market updater and everytime I try to open the app, it never actually opens. I already restarted my phone.

The 3rd file is an updated image file for recovery for CWM, if you want the latest.

You need to be on a sense Rom for this

I'm already starting to 2nd guess my stance on firerat. I'm just getting tired of always having to copy stuff over to /system or move to SD. Problem w/ moving to /system is everytime there's an update, updates won't write to /system even if i mount it as r/w prior to. this is frustrating because then I have to do the same monotonous step over.

I just don't want any problems w/ it (and there have been people with serious problems). There are always different size settings posted, then the complication of market abnormalities (told resolved with latest), and again, when i reflash a ROM I have to reflash it all over right? I guess I'm partly a stalwart as well because I always go into this stuff 110% so I feel a lot of reading time coming on...

If I flast it on now top of (5/17) 2.3.4, will I have to wipe /system & /data? Any latest and greatest pointers and tips would be appreciated. Right now I'm below 30MB on /data and it pisses me off. davlik cache should go on somewhere, preferably to /system. that seems a given w/ the constraints of the partitions + how/where stuff is installed. Wonder why Goog doesn't see this as a better fit.

Hey, just wanted to chime in that I rooted my girlfriend's HTC Sprint Hero with the rom from the OP and everything looks good except it broke support for Korean font. I don't know if there was something I overlooked during the install, but I know for a fact that she had a few contacts whose names were typed in Korean and now they're just boxes.

Any help?

I would post over at the XDA forum and the developer or someone else will help you out, in the meantime to can Nandroid back until you find a solution.

You can Nandroid this Rom, and try AOSP 9.9.2 and see if that has the Korean support, if it does then I would simply post at XDA, or go to the IRC from AOSP and ask him direct, I am sure he will have an answer for you, but try 9.9.2 first to see, worth a shot and that is a fast Rom also.

I'd rather not nandroid back to her 2.1 rom. It's laggy and buggy - a very bad release by HTC.
