[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Before doing a full wipe, I decided to do some troubleshooting first, I ran the GPS for about an hour to my destination, and had no reboots or issues, then I turned on my Golf GPS back on and it did reboot after a few minutes. So I then decided to uninstall the golf app, and then rebooted into recovery and did a Cache and Davlik wipe, and also Formatted Cache. then I installed another golf GPS app and had no issues, I then installed the old Golf GPS app again and no issues there either, so it may have been a bad install when I had done a fresh wipe a while back and had Google reinstall my apps.

That is some fine troubleshooting there, DonB. I am glad you got it working.

By the way, what are the two golf GPS apps that you are using? I might be interested in using them.

Just came by to post the same thing. I'm rebooting after this post to flash my a$$ off. Happy flashing to all.

Always force closed on me and I know don and others had the same problem. But I figured I would report the 1 thing I could try right away. You notice anything else mcat?

No... little bigger footprint.
Also - My usb storage doesn't appear to be working.
Im being told a Full Wipe/Format and fresh install will fix this....

Yea seemed a little heavier. Just did a full wipe on 5/ 16 was hoping not to have to again but oh well what's another 30min to get back to where I'm at.

My usb hasn't worked for almost 6 months not sure if it's my cable or the actual port. So I can't test that for you. Actually helped me learn how to do everything from the phone. God bless s-off.

I have NO gps compiling/reboot problems with aospCMod-HEROC-20110516-signed.zip as I did w/ earlier aospCMod stuff prior to. in fact, this is the best ROM ever for me. It has the reliability of AOSP v.2.2.1 but w/ the features of Gingerbread and (text caret, much improved video recorder audio and vid container, etc.). + CM perks (dsp vol key track change, color filters, dsp, etc.)

I think my Heroc shall die w/ this ROM some day. :D

The first one I used for a while was Free Caddie, the other 2 I tested today and seem pretty decent so far are, Golf Frontier GPS Lite and Swing By Swing Golf

Thanks for the input. I will try them out later and let you know which one I like. :)

I am not a hugely serious golfer, but I enjoy it sometimes and I am trying to get my friend into it who also has a Sprint HTC Hero. I just do not enjoy it when the humidity is as high as it has been around here the last two weeks.

I use Golf Card, bought it last year, if mapped correctly, which I map all my courses, my yardages are within a yard;)

You need to play like my buddy and I, we go out at 6PM with separate carts and we play 27 holes in 2 hours, we play 2 balls of the front nine, and one on the back, I have no patience no more to sit out there for 5 hours. ;)

Can anyone update any changes or fixes to the new release? I'm gonna flash this soon but it's going to be after a full wipe, I'm going to try the firat mod. I was told it can be done entirely from the phone so I'm stoked about that.

For some reason my upgrade from the previous version to 5/23 doesn't entirely work. I have wiped the cache and dalvik several time and made sure the MD5 of the ROM matched. Nonetheless, after the upgrade about 1/3rd of my apps didn't work. Instead there was a generic icon where the app used to be. Clicking on the generic icon said there was no app there. After trying different approaches I just gave up and went back to my last Nandroid which works fine. I tried to TB for some of the missing apps, but that didn't seem to work either. For me to use the 5/23 ROM it looks like I'll have to rebuild my phone.

Just updated to the latest release (5/16?) last night and everything is great so far except the alarm force-closes, which is not a big deal for now, and I can't receive texts. That IS a big deal. I've tried the stock messaging app and Handcent and nothing is showing up in either. I can send out texts successfully, but not receive them.

Any ideas?

First the newest update is 5/23 and can be found in the first post which fixes the alarm clock.

I haven't heard of the text message issues from anyone else on any of the releases. Did you flash over an old version or did you do afull wipe?

I would try flashing the 5/23 update and see if that fixes it. Maybe try a full wipe just to get a clean slate.

Thanks for the reply, rb312102.

I did get the link off the first page of this thread last night and installed that version. Maybe it is the 5/23 version, but the file itself has "20110516" in the file name so I was thinking that's the date of the version. I didn't find a link to any zip files with 0523 in the file name.

Terminology comprehension issues aside :D, I think I did do a full wipe before installation. I followed these instructions (is this considered a full wipe?):
1) Move all files you intend to flash to the root of your sd card (ex. aospGBmod, GAPPS, custom kernel, fr-boot/recovery).
2) First you need to wipe/format your phone, in clockwork recovery: Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition. Under Partitions menu (or Mounts & Storage in 3.0.0.5) in recovery: Format boot, system, data, cache. Under advanced: wipe Dalvik Cache.
3) Flash in this order: ROM, GAPPS, Kernel (optional, but always flash kernel last before you flash boot).
4) Reboot
