Help Battery Life???

After almost 5 hours of usage, WIFI/3G, email, browsing, and downloading, installing apps, changing settings, configuring desktop, 80% at 12:40 PM, PST, Sunday 29 May.

I am currently at my girlfriends house, but I plan on testing out the 4g mobile hotspot when I get back to school and posting the battery results from using that as well as the usual data. If that would be of any help

I went to bed last night at midnight, had 25% left from 24 hours of usage. I am hoping that as the battery gets conditioned it will hold a better charge, like the Droid Charge did after my 5-6th charging. As for my worst battery sucking app on the first charge sessions was the Accuweather App, it was consuming 70% of my battery, it was right out... Anyone know of the least thirsty weather app?

Change the refresh time. I set mine to 12hrs instead of 3.

From 8 AM to 10:30, solid usage all day, I am at 20% charge left, 3G network only doing most things, surf, text, phone, downloading, desktop maintenance, etc. 14+ hours burned 80%... Not as good as the Charge in this department, but not bad considering the Incredible 2 I had a month ago.

Ok something is wrong with my Revo then. I took it off the charger last night around 7pm at 100%. I went to sleep and woke up at 4am the phone was unused the entire time and it's now at 36%. I also noticed when i was tethering it to my ipad while it was plugged in the battery wasn't charging it was still draining very slowly though. So i'm not sure if it's the phone, the battery or an app that's causing this?

That could happen if you left the phone in LTE automatic mode as LTE is most power hungry radio. If you are in weak 4G area, it could drain fast too. I would put it in WiFi or 3G mode overnight. Also watch for sync settings on your apps.

I did have it wi-fi mode the 3g symbol stayed up as well first time
i've noticed that on any of my phones. Maybe i just have a buggy phone. I've noticed a few other things as well I had to reboot it last night to get the hotspot to work. It also gets real sluggish on screen transitions, and sometimes when you come out of an app it completely redraws the home screen. I do think it's better than the Thunderbird which it's meant to replace though if i can figure out these issues.

I am having the same problem. Full Day three and I have crappy battery life. Last night I did a factory restore, because I wasn't sure that there wasn't a program that was causing the problem. After the reset, I fully charged the phone and then left it off the charger after getting to 100%. When I got up this morning, about 6 hours later, I was down below 70% WTH? So, I changed the 4G automatic to 3G, and my battery seems better. Now I've gone about 8 hours and only lost about 5% of the battery. So does this mean I can't run 4G? Gonna be disappointing. Any thoughts or suggestions anyone?

I don't think losing about 30% in 6hours standby in 4G mode is so bad at all. Tbolt users would very happy with that kind of battery drain rate. :D

I guess I'm not used to having my battery under 20% before 4 pm. I haven't gotten a spare battery yet so if I'm out and about, I'm under pressure to get to a charger. But from what I'm understanding, on no 4G phone should I get a full day of battery?

I think something in the phone software might be buggy. Today after about 5 hours off the charger standby the battery was at 99%

I'm going to give my phone another day before I take it up to the store and have them exchange it. If there is a bug, and most people are surprised with the quality of the battery life, then maybe there is a problem with my phone.

@ Ufkal you should be happy. Some tbolt owners I know are down to 60% after 2 hours in 4G mode. These new generation phones cannot be compared to standard cell phones in terms of battery. I tested the Charge and it was down to 65% after 8 hours of light and standby use. My old original droid wasn't that much better either.

Here's what I have seen so far:
Note: 3rd charge cycle for me.

12 hours- light to moderate use in 4G mode, down to 30%.
This avg to about 6% per hour or about 16 hours on a full charge.

11 hours - moderate use on 3G (some picture taking, bluetooth, calls) down to about 47%.
This avg to about 5% per hour or 20 hours total.

I tracked it hour by hour and this is what I am seeming (roughly).

on standby,
in 4G, about 6% per hour or about 17 hours total.
in 3G, ~4% per hour, 25 hours total.

on heavy use (based on my use),
4G, about 12% per hour, or ~8 hours total
3G, about 7% per hour, ~14 hours total.

So, in summary,
4G for me: 8-16 hours depending on my use
3G for me: 14-25 hours depending on my use.

Dogwalker, thanks for that breakdown. Its very detailed. I appreciate time you put into this summary.

Well today and the LG Revolution met 4G LTE up close and personal. I posted screen shots of slower speeds than the Samsung Droid Charge and blazing through the Battery at almost Thunderbolt speeds doing light to moderate tasking.
See:

http://androidforums.com/lg-revolution/344528-screenshots-thread.html

I got on the ferry at 1:10 PM, 4G-LTE network, 95% battery, having used GPS from house to ferry terminal (This function worked great compared to Charge), Even while charging in car, the LG Revo dropped from 100% to 95%, then I shut off all GPS functionality. Between 1:30-5:30 PM (4 Hours), it dropped a total of 60% battery life to around 35%, I only checked a couple of e-mails, browsed these forums a little, installed one app, and did screenshots.

Battery Life on 4G... NOT IMPRESSED. The Charge smoked the LG in this department. Not to mention I did not get the same 4G speeds the Charge was getting. Someone on another forum called it the LG Thunderbolt, I am starting to wonder. I even had all the running services toned down to a minimum state.

The battery for me is doing pretty good, and I'm quite happy with it. Unplugged my phone this morning at ~10:00 a.m. and now at 11:30 pm it's at 37%.

Wifi is always on, even if I'm not at home
Data is set to LTE/CDMA (I was in a 4G area for ~an hour today)
Downloaded 10 apps today
All location services are enabled
Screen is at 2/3-3/4 brightness
Playing games on the phone for about 30 mins
Listening to music (10-15 songs)
~200 texts (100 sent&received ish)
AIM (yes, aim lol) is on all day in the bg until the system kills it and i notice to restart it for FB chat (had 5 convos for ~5 mins/ea)
Sync always
~30-45 minutes of web browsing/FB/Twitter/forums
(I only had it plugged in for the time it took to add 750 MB of music to the SD since I took it off the charger, which is probably negligible)

I'm happy with the battery life I'm getting so far, especially coming from an Incredible :p

Gunner,

Might want to check to see if you're getting some error task running in the background. I've been running 4g pretty often and get about 8 hours on moderate use to about 16 hours (data sync off, light use).

I had a error this evening well after rebooting the phone twice since the battery drained down. It was a upload error for Picasa. I was trying to get the screenshots loaded for all to view, but all day I keep most processes and apps off or at minimum usage to see. And no errors listed during my test period.

Not impressed, maybe it is my battery... But what depresses me is the lack of 4G prowess that the Samsung Droid Charge had. The Charge was not snappy like this LG Revo doing normal functions (Screen transitions seemed slow, icon loading seemed slow, etc), but the Charge using SkyFire would fly faster than this phone in Seattle and San Diego over the last two weeks. The wireless mobile hotspot on the Samsung Charge was really good too, I was getting almost the same download speeds as the smartphone. This LG is not performing as well as the Charge in the 4G world.

Trying to look at other possible causes, I highly doubt a ton of users flooded the 4G network and choked the bandwidth pipe that much. I also doubt VZW throttled back the pipe yet... They want us hooked on the fast network like addicts, then they can charge what they want and we will pay....

I think you need to take that 4G speedtest with a grain of salt. I had the Charge before like you. My experience was that the Charge had slightly slower download speeds. The other day I was comparing the revo with a friend's tbolt. We had equivalent speeds... side by side through 5 runs. Sure, it wasn't exactly the same, but we were hitting 8-12 Mb per sec.

Mu experience with the Charge was that it would drop 4g connection often, sometimes not even getting a 3g signal. It would give me no signal on any network. I would have to put it into airplane mode and switch out to get signal and no, I was not using any program like juice defender. I'm not getting that with the Revo in the same location (my house). The Revo at least, gives me solid 3g and 4g is pretty darn good.

Needless to say, pretty happy with my Revo. Would not take the Charge. Even rooted with the touch ui removed, the Quad score was 1400. The Revo has an additional GPU onboard and that probably explains the better Quad score.

DogWalker, thanks for advice, I am trying to be optimistic, 11MB is nothing to complain about, heck a lot of homes are not getting that. The battery life is a little concerning. On 3G it seemed to have a lot going for it. As we move to the 700MHZ LTE spectrum (Old Analog TV Spectrum, BTW) quickly because they are using much of the installed infrastructure, we are going to find battery life as a premium. I agree with others that posted RAM will also be important as we move toward Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich...

So far battery life seems to be worse the my Moto Droid, but of course is has a bigger screen and LTE. After ~8 hours of moderate to heavy use it was at about 40%. I decided to try and do it in so while on the road for an hour I had the screen on the whole time while running navigation with the satellite layer on streaming Slacker on high quality. Then I downloaded and played games for about an hour before it died. Overall it seemed to do pretty good. Normally I have it plugged in to my work computer and car charger so it's not a big deal.

Todays Battery Stat- LG Revo...
6 AM= 100% off charger, off to work 3G Network Only, CDMA-Auto set
Brightness set at Auto. Read 30 Emails, Sent 1 email, little Browser action <15 min, text read only, two phone calls (<45 min total), Scoremobile (3 minutes, shut down), Weather update set at 6 hours.
9 PM- 29% battery remains, 15 hours, no Facebook, no Twitter, no real surfing, not many phone calls, not many texts, no GPS usage, no music, no calendar, and no tinkering with the desktop. About 5% an hour without doing anything I usually do.

That sounds pretty good for battery life in 3G mode. I saw many Incredible, Evo doing worse than that needing to recharge within 12 hours. Seems quite close to Fascinate on average.

jinwons, I think you are one of the most objective members in this forum and value your thoughts, I would agree with you about the 3G battery life in comparison to my Dinc1.

But my concern is that I hardly used the phone today. In comparison to Droid Charge, in San Diego 4G network, I was using the phone more and getting almost 1/3 - 1/2 more battery life on average. When in a 3G area, LTE turned off, it would take hours to drop below 100%. The Charge charged up faster (2-3 hours), do not know if anyone has evaluated that yet, but the LG Revo seems to take about 3-4 (more toward 4) hours to fully charge from 20%. I may have a bum battery, who knows that may be the problem.

Jinwons did you Voodoo your Fascinate?

The first two days I got 8 hours of use before it automatically powered off/ died.
Then I got 9 hours yesterday and 10.5 hours today. Maybe it will keep getting better?

I made sure to turn off WiFi and GPS today when I was not home or not using Google Navigation. I've always had Verizon location service turned off. Even though I am not in a 4G area I've left my phone on LTE/CDMA auto. Tomorrow I will try switching to 3G/CDMA only.

I'm might try turning Facebook and Twitter sync off tomorrow too. Just try a bunch atoncei guess. My battery usage has been saying 90% or more Android System. 4% or so on Cell Standby and it will give me a little bit on Google Maps. That's it! Nothing about the screen usage or anything else.

Great phone so far! Just need better battery life!
