Help (OTA GB) WiFi-3G S L O W this is getting pretty stupid

OcalaFlGuy

Android Expert
I've been complaining since 6/1 about my Wifi and 3G not being anywhere NEAR as fast since the OTA, the WiFi being all but unusable when the laptop with the same signal is fine (not the best) but it still loads unlike the phone WiFi (Just did a side by side, the laptop got 1M/1M, the DX couldn't connect with the Speedtest servers.)

At it's rare now very best, the 3G can still come in around 1.2 MPS.

This morning on two different test, no mind you this was with a full 4 bars showing, LESS THAN 400 Kps.

That's ridiculous.

I'm going to check the signal in different areas the next couple days, it looks like I may have to take this to The Big Red store. That sucks, I really don't want to exchange my NEW DX for a refurb.

This is totally why I sbf'd back to froyo. I don't think you will find much info on here. It seems most people aren't experiencing any problems with this, or at least are punch drunk for GB and won't admit to any faults it may have. I have heard a few people talk about it, not enough to really get anything fixed. I had all sorts of problems with GB. My phone was turning on all by its lonesome, wifi issues, email problems. It was a real wreck. Tried every version of GB out so far and no fix. It sort of has me looking at the htc evo 3d to be honest. I mean, the X is a good phone, but motorola seems to be dropping the ball. Even called motorola and they got me to check enable auto IP in wifi settings. This seemed to stop the complete dropping of wifi, but it's still not reliable enough to use. It's garbage.

i think big red throttled their 3g speed way down..

I used to get 2.3Mbps down when i first got my X in Dec.

then it dropped to 1.5 about a month or so ago.

now its a consistant .35-.50 Mpbs down and .85 up. I get the same speeds on my wife's Dg2. at my house Im less than a half mile from the tower according to the app OpenSignal with a clear line of site. I can stand on my back porch and see the fricken thing...

Sad thing is its not just this area. Im all over the city of Houston and its like this everywhere.

I called them to complain and they claim the speeds are reporting 2.5 Mbps average..

I'm still on rooted Froyo and after reading all the complaints about GB I think I'm going to hold off for a while. BTW I just tried speedtest.net, just to see what I was getting here in the southern Denver Metro area: 2.27Mbps down/.61Mbps up -- very happy with that and I'll stick with my current configuration since its now pretty much dialed in for everything I want to do with it.

did you ever perform a factory reset like we'd suggested in the other threads?

I am not rooted and I've read a couple places where MyBackupPro won't back up my game scores and settings and I'd rather not lose them. I do have MBP on my phone now and do have an email into the game dev to see if their scores are stored to my SD card or not.

In the meantime, I hear there is an alleged upcoming patch in the works. My data is usable now if my WiFi isn't so I may wait a week or so for it or a better back-up answer(s) than I have right now.

Sorry you're having issues with it but the statement that people are hiding faults, that is pure garbage. This forum is better than that sorry you don't see it.

There seem to be a few bugs going from Froyo to GB. I could be talking out of my backside, but it is almost as if the data didn't always convert properly.

It is always worth a shot to start with a clean slate.

FWIW, Steven, one of the mods, actually reported faster d/l speeds on GB, as have others.

I would be willing to say it is a regional and timing based thing.

I see what you are saying. Just the thought of having to Factory reset
and go through all the re-syncing and downloading of Apps is tedious.
Seems like I will have to give it a go though.
