Hello all!

I am completely new to the smartphone/android world. I generally am on the back end of curves, but i decided to take the plunge this june. I am switching from VZW to Sprint. And with that switch i am getting a data plan and getting the HTC Evo 3D when it is released on June 24th.

Just thought i would pop in and say hello. I am pretty familiar with general forum rules and such, so hopefully all goes well here. I have been lurking for a couple weeks doing research, but i thought it was time to get an account and finally say hello.

Reside in Las Vegas area and new to the Android Forum and Rooting/Flashing...I have an EVO 4G, and about to upgrade to the 3D end of the month.
 
Can one of you guys direct me to a place where i can find a list of 'must have' apps?


I have already began to peruse the android market website and have decided that i will undoubtedly be getting the following:

Google Maps
Facebook
Youtube
Pandora
Angry Birds
Task Killer
Flash Player
Tiny Flashlight (hopefully i can decide upon if i want to use both LED's on the EVO 3D)
Movies (Flixster)
GasBuddy
Paper Toss

i would love a recommendation on a good app that can track my phone if it is lost, hopefully flashed to the system so a thief can't turn it off.

I hope to also root my phone so i can remove bloatware, and get free tethering.

if i am off base for asking in this thread, please let me know, the last thing i want is to get banned or warned on my first day.
 
There's an app called ES Security Manager that can lock your phone via text message if it gets lost. If you link it to your gmail account, it will send you an email with its GPS location and backups of stuff like SMS, contacts etc.

Lookout also offers something similar, but it will switch GPS on if you log on to your account via the web and say the device is lost. ES just uses wireless/3G network.

I don't see a "Must Have Apps" list in the Evo 3D forums yet. This would be a great time to start one, I'm sure it would be a popular thread.
 
thanks a lot! i am still kinda stumbling my way around the boards trying to locate all the different sub-forums. I am really thankful that it is running on V-Bulletin, i am extremely familiar with the features and layout.
