[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Thank you, I appreciate your effort and yes it doesn't seem that difficult.

I keep going back and forth though... as the low /data space serves as a reminder to tidy up and remove apps I don't really use anyway, so it has a bit of a positive benefit for me. On the other had, the cluster f--k of deciding what does on /system (only to be duplicated on /data when updated from the market), and what to move to SD gets a tad monotonous.

That said, I have one question. What do you mean by changing system requires reflash. You mean, if I say... copy/move/delete anything from /system/apps (as one example), I must reflash fire rat?

Also what do 80 and 18 individually represent... MB size of two partitions but which ones? And If I use 100 or 120 for the 1st, where is that space subtracting from?

Edit: I now glean the 2nd is CACHE partition? Is this partition viewable from Root Explorer? It helps to see it visually to put it in perspective. What size is it, by default? Lastly, still not certain what latter number is, but I'm guessing /data since that's really where we need space. 30MB borrowed from /system and it'd be perfect quite frankly.

I may end up doing this if I update ROM, but can't seem myself doing it otherwise. My eyes are on the anticipation of SGS2 at this point, even though my upgrade won't be until Dec! :D

To try and make it as easy as possible...

- 100 18. The first number is always the system partition. The second is always cache. So in this example, you would have 100 MB of storage for just the system and 18 MB for just cache. That leaves you with around 320 MB for data (installed apps).

- Always make sure when you set up your partitions that you leave enough space for the ROM you're flashing and the cache you would be using. The best way to find these values out is to contact the ROM developer.

- As for when you change system files, you don't have to change the partitions unless you're adding to the system and need more system space. Whenever you flash a now ROM, theme, apk through recovery, etc., make sure you have enough system space to compensate otherwise you will get boot loops.

+ Whenever you change the partitions in your text editor, it won't change in the system until you flash firat all over again. You don't have to start over with your ROM every time you change the values, but you do have to do FULL WIPES every time you re-flash firat.

So... the best way I can put it is...

Nandroid
Full wipe (data, cache, partitions, etc.)
Flash firat recovery
Partition system, data, and cache but not boot
Flash ROM and Gapps (if needed)
Flash firat boot
Reboot

If you're changing the partitions to get more space for whatever reason and want to keep your current set up, just do all of the above, restore your nandroid, flash firat boot, reboot. Just make sure you go through the entire process every time you change the partitions otherwise nothing will change.

The end :)

Is there any way to manually link contacts in this ROM? I love everything else about it except the fact that my contact list now has some duplicates which have some info on one and the rest on the other.

If you go into GMail on your computer you can merge your contacts. I believe you have to select two or more contacts and then there is an option to merge them together.

This should combine all of the information from the duplicates into one. Give it a try and let us know if it helped you out.

Thanks for that. would you happen to know what the default sizes are of system and cache running this rom vanilla, w/o firerat?

Wouldn't full wipe = starting over? Unless of course the nandroid recover method after steps, which is I think what you meant anyway, but wanted to clarify.

Also, was not aware there was a firerat recovery... does this replace CWM? If so, any caveats to it when flashing new roms, etc. (if these things are even possible when running it)?

Thanks! You've been most helpful!

Well I guess the EVO 3D cannot come fast enough, I comply lost sound on my Hero out of the blue, I have tried everything, including putting the head phone in and out to see if that would trigger anything, I have even Nandroid back to another date, and still no speaker sound, so either I am missing something here, or the speaker blew out of the blue, any suggestions I am all ears

- Go into Terminal Emulator and type...

df -h

Then press enter. That command shows how everything is divided.

- After you do a full wipe and flash firat to change the partitions, you nand-restore then flash firat boot. That's what I do.

- I believe the firat recovery is just the file name. It may have a specific reason for being called that but I don't know what it is. Your recovery won't change after flashing firat recovery.

- Glad I could be of service. I've gotten so much help here, it feels good to be able to give back.

Well not is my speaker not working, now I seem to be having issues with Gmail, my native app won't login at all.

on the Gmail app, I am able to receive emails, can't send, and on the native app, I can no longer sign it, keeps saying error connection or login or password incorrect, i know it is correct, Arrghhhhhh, driving me nuts, could this not happen on the 24th, lol I have tried everything, full wipes, restores, they work on Liquidsense. any other ideas I am all ears,I have tried to flash Gapps again, no luck, could it be my recovery, 3.0.2.4
, I had not had these issue before on 2.5.0.7, any suggestions before it goes under my SUV, LOL

Don it sounds like your Hero is getting jealous of all your 3d talk LOL. Its like it knows its days are limited and has just given up on life. I really don't have any ideas, it sounds like you have tried almost everything. Maybe try to uninstall Gmail and download it from the market and see if that helps.

The native app is not in the market, the one with the gold @ sign, I am able to sign in from the browser, I wonder is something got changed in the Pop settings that I did not notice

I had a similar experience like a month ago to where it wouldn't let me sign into gmail where it said I had the incorrect password. I went to sign into gmail on the computer and it said my account was frozen due to suspicious activity. I had to reset/change my password and it worked fine after putting in the new password. Hope this helps

I am able to login from the PC, so you think it got locked from the phone and that is why I am having an issue ?? interesting, I can always reset the password and see

can you post the POP 3 settings, to make sure something there is not messed up

Username has the name and @gmail.com
pop3 server says gmail.com
port 110
Security type None

My situation doesn't seem to be similar to yours. I use the native email app for my university email, in which I use certain settings applied for that email. I do know that the one time it was giving me trouble refreshing and signing in even though I was had in the correct settings. It somehow magically worked like a few days later.

Supported POP client list - Gmail Help

Could it be that google is testing a new protocol today and it broke the POP settings (something of the sort). Check the link for what it says about the testing of the new protocol today and the POP settings for gmail

Have you tried to make a backup with titanium backup from liquidsense then nandroid back uninstall then reinstall the backup?

Yep sure did, still no go, trying to get Sprint to send me another hero until the 24th, lol :D This way I can sell when I upgrade on the 24th

Another Hero on its way to me, after sending 4 hours on the phone with them, they are sending me a replacement.

^^^ Nice work Don...
You should have said...Hero Is outdated....I need a free upgrade to the EVO 4g -
then you could have sold that back to them.

FWIW - I am keeping my HeroC - worth more to me than the $40 THey are offering...
It is going to be the COOLEST MP3/4 player EVERY.....

I did bro, I spent 4 hours today with 6 reps after 5 hangups, then I got account services involved, so at least I will have a fresh clean Hero that I can keep and maybe give to my wife.

I already put myself on the list for the when the EVO comes out, and I will also call the night of the 23rd and see if I can order it online and save myself the grief of having to go to the store and sit there for a few hours during the havoc, and if not then at least I have one on order, LOL

i bet that was tumultuous... 4 hours, eek! they should give ANYONE a Hero (at the very least, like a cookie) for wasting that much time.

do you guys really think it's going to be madness on the 24th? i tend to think not. i like that the 3vo is coming out and all, but I could care less about that date. heck, my contract isn't even due for upgrade (thanks to the renege on sprint premier) until end of year, but I'm more excited about the SSG2 at this point.
