Root Help please with update!!

I currently have my DX running on 2.2.1 but my phone will not allow me to update to 2.3.3. It is rooted with Z4 and i have no clue as to how to sbf back to stock. I need MAJOR help and basically step my step instuctions on how to get it to update. Thanks in advance!

SBF’ing the Droid X U D G

Get both RSD Lite 4.9 and Drivers 4.9, nothing less.

Download the link labelled:
Android 2.2.1 System Version 2.3.340 Full (VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01)

Then install RSD Lite and Motorola Drivers

Turn your phone off

Hold volume down, camera button, and the power button until it comes on and has some text saying connect USB.

Connect USB cable to computer/phone

Launch RSD Lite.

Select the SBF file you unzipped from the Android 2.2.1 system file.

Hit start, let it go until it reboots the phone.

Once it does reboot, it may become stuck on the red eye logo. Pull the battery.

Then reinsert battery, hold down home button and power button UNTIL it brings up an android and triangle.

Hit the maginifying glass button.

Use the volume buttons to scroll, camera button to select.

Select Factory reset.

Once that's complete then scroll to reboot and whala. New phone.

Either or, you will lose root after it's done.

Also, if you want Gingerbread with root, DO NOT take the OTA update.

I'm confused. You're on 2.2.1. Why do you need to SBF?
You said you're rooted, that won't prevent you from getting the update.

I guess it depends on the version of 2.2.1. You need to be on .340. Also, rooted alone won't prevent the OTA, but making changes to system files (i.e. freezing, renaming, or removing bloat) will cause it to fail.

I'm aware of the update failing if you've changed the preinstalled apps, but the OP didn't mention that, which is why I was confused.

I guess I wasn't aware of of the different versions of 2.2.1.

I guess I've gotten to the point of just assuming that they have done something with root that will cause it to fail. I've seen too many threads that go like this:
OP: My OTA failed! HELP ME!
US: Are you rooted?
OP: Well, yeah...
US: Did you freeze/delete/rename anything
OP: Well, just a little bloat, but I don't know why that matters
US: SBF to 340.

So, I just skip to the end.

Not a bad thing, I just try to give people the benefit of the doubt. However you would think since I've been in Unix support for what seems like centuries I would know better.
