I didn't see yours either! That's funny. I forgot to mention that I get that white sense boot screen.
Were you running a launcher before the OTA update? I was running Go Launcher for a week before the OTA but I uninstalled it because in was running slow.
Its cool, to me it could just get confusing to people but hey whatever. All great info though, thanks for the info on doing a reset to fix issues, I've started backing up stuff already that way I can get it done.
I'm thinking of starting fresh instead of backing up everything. Might just copy the important stuff to the PC, sync with Google and reinstall only what I actually use one by one.
I might format my SD card so that starts over fresh to. I've heard that's bad for them though, any thoughts?
Forgive me if this has been covered. Since I and my wife updated to gingerbread when exit certain applications it takes us to a white htc screen and then "loading." This slows down the ability to use the phone considerably. Is there a work around or is this just now a known issue? Been searching the forum for answers but I must not be using the right search terms.
Yea, I'm sure there won't be one.
1. Some "random" guy said there'd be one. Sprint and HTC haven't said anything on their Facebook accounts about it, and they would've.
I guess I was that "random guy" concerning the wireless-N fix with an upgrade.
I detailed how I had went to level one tech support twice, how I was moved to level two. How level two didn't know anything. How I was finally transferred to Installation Support - Android Update and talked to "Paul." Paul advised me that Sprint was aware of the issue; that wireless-N would be part of an overall update that included some other "conflicts" and that the update would arrive in several days.
Now "Paul" may have been making this stuff up in order to get me off the phone real fast, but I seriously doubt that. He knew immediately what I was talking about regarding the wireless-N removal, and he didn't hesitate to state that there would be an update coming soon.
If someone would like to verify this, than they can call tech support and ask for someone in Installation Support to address the wireless-N issue. This would probably be better than waiting for a Facebook/Twitter/My Space statement.
Obviously, if I were to call, then I could be accused of making this all up in order to...hmm, I can't even think of why I would make this stuff up.![]()
It's a shame to got rid of WiFi Wireless N.
If you go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>Hardware Information
Then scroll down to WiFi, you see only 802.11 b/g...no mention of N. So it's definately not there anymore.
Aside from the normal issues, I am also having a problem with SwitchPro. A couple of the switches don't toggle anymore. I've emailed the developer about this. There could be more switches, but of the ones I use, only 2 are whacky.
Pandora seems like it's not working correctly...and another thing I noticed...and the font for the 3G icon in the taskbar is different.
When you put in ##DATA# and look at the advanced settings, Some of the settings are gone. For example, RTSP Proxy Address & Port are gone as is HTTP proxy and port.
As for additional rumored updates, Netflix has been public and specific that they're working on it.
Netflix Not Playing Nice with Gingerbread on the EVO 4G, Fix in the Works
From the article -
That does not mean that a Gingerbread fix is in the works. And while the quote makes it look like Gingerbread's fault, the truth is the same for all apps that break due an update (remember, we saw this on Froyo). The dev had something not future-proof in his app, the dev (Netflix) needs to fix what's broken now.

marctronixx warning still in effect - let's not have this thread degrade, please.
Our motto is attack issues, not people.
The issue here is Gingerbread.
Has anyone tried a factory reset after backing everything up to see if that works. That's what all the knowledgeable folks keep telling us to do, but no one has posted that they did one yet. I'm gonna do one this weekend when I have time to do it.
What I did was backup all my data on the SD card to my computer then erased my SD card. I then updated my phone with the new software and after update was finished I did a Factory Data Reset on the phone. I then pulled the battery.
I'm curious, why you wouldn't have FACTORY RESET & THEN Update with Gingerbread? The intent is to have as clean a base to install as possible no?
& that begins with an unadulterated 3.7 > 4.22.
Some time ago, when you could get to the factory reset function by a combination of button presses at power-on.
As I said, I prefer to unambiguous about it, but not everyone has a tech background, and once an idea hits the internet... well, you know the rest.
I avoid the terms soft and hard reset for that reason. If described as cycle power, battery pull and factory reset, there's no questions.
And you may be surprised to find that others you've corresponded with don't use the term hard reset as you do.
I've been all through these forums - what I'm describing isn't my personal idea - it's a symptom of what's out there, in our forums and many others.
It is what it is.

When I perform the reset on my EVO using ##786# then 'password' (memory card removed) do you feel that is sufficient to on-board Ginger?

I'm fairly new to the EVO, coming from the Moment. After waiting a few days I decided to update my phone today. I've had it right about two months now.
I'm not a super phone user so don't have all that many bells and whistles loaded on my phone.
What I did was backup all my data on the SD card to my computer then erased my SD card. I then updated my phone with the new software and after update was finished I did a Factory Data Reset on the phone. I then pulled the battery.
I then began making all the setting changes to my phone again. Google resynced all my contacts with no issues. Voicemail seems to be working with no issues. I just went back to the Market and downloaded all the apps I use again. I have no paid ones. I use Handcent for texting but didn't really care about saving previous texts.
The only thing I'm noticing now is a "possible" slowdown with my 3G speeds. I say "possible" as I'm not sure what it was before I updated. I was just reading the thread about fixing the 3G slowdown and that got me noticing.
I don't use an "N" router here so that issue is not a problem for me. Matter of fact I get great wireless "G" speeds.
Again I'm not really a "power user" with my EVO so YMMV.
You know, I read the first couple of pages and then skipped back (so maybe I missed it) but I just updated today with the rooted rom (but it's the completely stock rom for those that are rooted, not custom, it should be identical to all of yours) and I just checked my input method. I now have a gingerbread keyboard and Swype. I may just be losing my mind but I don't believe I have had swype beta since my last phone (which has been swapped out since). Am I crazy here or did they include these in the new update?
Too much work. You're just needing the factory reset, not a whole phone re-provisioning.
Same functions are built-in with:
homescreen -> menu -> settings -> sd & phone storage -> factory data reset
The SD card should be fine. If in doubt, simple copy/paste entire SD card contents to a folder on your PC. I do that often, using folder name ="SD card (today's date)" - again, the procedure in our Fix Froyo/Gingerbread thread is all about the backup discipline - because that's what's going to save you someday - phones don't last forever.
(We did have one case by rangergrrl who DID need a whole reprovisioning of her phone - but let Sprint do that, don't try that on your own unless you know 10000000% what you're doing.)
same issue here... shut down supposedly shuts down the phone, but it starts so quickly that it actually cuts off the Sprint "start up" tone. Maybe they mislabeled the Shut Down and Restart.New shutdown options. Powering down now just seems to put the phone into sleep mode and it wakes up very quickly. The Restart option seems to do more of a shutdown and it takes longer to boot up from there.
Thanks Mon, I already performed the ##786# reset at the direction of a Spring tech over the phone. Now I have my password should I need to go in there again or in the ##3282# menu.
I'll start making a habit of keeping backups on my PC.
*potentially boneheaded question*: Once rooted do you still perform a factory data reset?
Thanks for your willingness to share.
Sharing is all part of paying thanks forward for those who either plowed this ground before me or helped me do it - so - my pleasure!![]()
Yep - I do this, too - and I am rooted.
Rooters have the equivalent functions they access from a component called recovery (that I used to use for this). Rooters know (by design and rom dev instructions) when to clear which parts of their Dalvik VM with what methods.
And it's not always 100%, those rooter instructions - so I just nuke from orbit that territory where problems lie, aka I forgo rom instructions and just factory reset.
Every time.
(When changing rom types, tho - follow instructions exactly. Then factory reset anyway.)
