Music/sound quality?

Am I the only one who thinks the sound quality of the Eris SUCKS? No matter what player I use (stock player, TuneWiki, MixZing, DroidLive, Last, LastFM, Pandora (to a slightly lesser degree)), music comes out incredibly muddled, like I'm listening through pillows over my ears. True of any of 5 pairs of headphones I use (and I'm not about to go out and buy $100 headphones), including through my car adapter.

Does everyone else have this problem, and is anyone aware of any way to improve the sound quality? Might Android 2.0 help? Since I use my phone 1/3 as a music player, this is close to a deal breaker for me.
 
No, you're not the only one. I dont know a 100% proof answer, but my guess is because the phone does not have EQ built in and it is not really meant as the main music listening source.
 
I'm going throw this out there I am a musician and mix my own stuff. And I test my eq levels on all types of devices... typically cell phone players really muck up the sound. I have been highly impressed with the eris. It's much better then Apple devices . Not perfect, but it might be the best so far. I cannot speak for other peoples music, but maybe your hearing the song the way it was ment to sound. I know that MySpace really ruins a lot of the audio quality. I know this isn't much of a solution but I feel that the best test is to write and record your own music so you know exactly how it should sound. Remember itunes tweak a lot of your audio files. So you maybe hearing these songs for the first time in there natural unaltered state.
 
I think an EQ is only going to help so much. I mean, not to be a nit, but the Eris is just unlistenable. And if the Eris is "how the music is supposed to sound," then every musician on every one of the 700 or so songs I have loaded on my Eris doesn't know what they're doing. None of the songs sounds even close to what it sounds like over regular radio or a cd or iTunes or iPod.

Maybe it's time to go to the dark side...
 
Okay okay.... my next guess would be that your audio jack is messed up....maybe there is some lint or dust or its a factory mistake. Im just trying to say its not an issue for me. I think it is not a software issue but a hardware issue. How are your phone calls when you have headphones plugged in.
 
Maybe my hearing is bad due to long term exposure at concerts and clubs, but the music doesn't sound THAT bad on my phone. Now, I am not talking about the speaker on the phone, but headsets, plugged into the car, the stereo or over bluetooth it sounds fine. I've heard better, but it isn't "destroying" my ability to listen to music by any means.

Just out of curiosity, what format do you guys/girls have your music in and what bitrate/quality are the files? All of mine are in mp3 format and nothing is under 192 Kbps, most are above 250 kbps actually.

I listened to 320 kbps files in the car and it sounds worse than iPod :)
 
I listen to rap and hip hop mainly

this mp3 i have on my eris is 320 kps and 44khz 2 channel stereo

sounds just fine on my eris with headphones. i have skull candy headphones, they are ok quality.

I dont think you can even really hear the difference when listening to 192 kbps file or 320 on the headphones. The real difference comes out when you use stereo system

It may be my hearing, or the fact that I listening to Rob Zombie right now, but I have it plugged into the 5.1 system in my office and it sounds great.
 
an EQ would be nice. I like a little more high and mid.

its great that it does. I honestly tried once and was not very happy ( my ipod died so i needed a back up lol).

I am more on the side that Eris is not meant to sound great for music..Like, if you compare to European devices like Sony Errickson that are designed to fully replace iPods.
 
I am an audio nut. If it is not on vinyl its going to sound bad. So I stick with 128 mp3. So I can put more on what ever I'm using. I detest itunes and all the silly things it does with my music. Fade out arg! I say it again I am impressed with the sound quality on the eris. I could live with out the cutting out but really haven't heard anything that is better then vinyl

I think the Eris has great audio quality. Your unit could be faulty. Have you tried listening to music on another Eris? I bet a Verizon store could make that happen. You might need a new phone.

Rehearsal Assistant has the option of recording in .wav format. SOunds pretty good. Ya know, if you're like me and you use your phone to record ideas, riffs, etc.

Just thought you'd like to know id you didn't already.

I'm listening to Nickelback's "Dark Horse" album, encoded at 320kbs, on a pair of Creative Labs earbuds, and I think the sound is alright. It's not on par with the sound from my laptop or 30GB Zune (Go ahead and insert your Zune jokes here), but it certainly acceptable for a phone. The sound is much better on this than from other sources.
 
my eris music quality is perfect.
i have a 3.5 to 3.5mm cord i use to play it in my car and its amazing!
i love when i get out the car and the music stops in the car but is still playing on tunewiki. somebody always catches me as say "that was coming from your phone?" :)
