Root The Official One-Click Rooting Solution for Droid Thread!!! :D :D LATEST: V2.0.4

Soup or Root 2.06 Beta is out!! It has been optimized greatly and is now very stable and virtually flawless!!!

P.s. HUGE thanks to those who are donating, you keep my work alive!!! :D

Hi & thanks for developing this sofware, it saved my phone from a horrible Verizon Forced Mandtory Update to My Motorola Droid 1, OS 2.2.1, it did horrible things to my phone. I was using Z4Root but the update closed the exploit to root the phone using that app. I had to to completley do a hard rest on my phone. Thats when I found out that the new update effectivley stopeed Z4Root. I was so scr**, dont have the knowledge to comfortable root my phone without bricking it. Searched high & low for an auto root solution. Then I found your wonderful Soup or Root software. Why is the orginal post on this Android Forums with great instruction been deleted. I refered a lot of people to that link J everyone got the page is no longer available, Why was that done? It was great instructions, that even a newbie like me could figure out a few work arounds & make it work. For this blasted Verizon Forced Mandatory update, I had to use the latest Soup or Root beta, but discovered I needed to first download & install the Motorala drivers manualy, your software would not do that for some reason, then reinstaled soup or root latest beta, made sure my phone had USB debbuging turned on, plugged in my phone refused to allow the phone to open the USB card, clicked root from the button on my laptop in your sofware, waited till it rooted & automatically rebotted, & great it rooted my beast where all else failed, yea. So what happened to your orginal post with directions & a link to those very inportant Motorola drivers? Thanks so much, will donate ASAP promise but funds are a little tight right now. Please repost all that so others can easily root as I. Then was able to use Titinum Backup Pro paid to restore a previous rooted backup.

Again thanks to people like you and Joel from TI Backup Pro. Many blessings. I want to continue to spread the word but need to send people to a valid link that fully explains how to with your software, like the previous post that is gone.

I can confirm that this method does work with Update 2.2.1 FRG83D. I used Z4Root to obatain root but obviously lost it when the update was installed. However, after finding out that Z4Root no longer works with the new update I tried Soup or Root and it worked on the second try.

For other noobs like me who might be having similar problems:

Successfully rooted my moto droid, stock, a couple months ago. Got Titatnium Backup Pro and moved most of my apps to the sd card which was a big help. (Tried overclocking but the app didn't work, developer updated it but I haven't tried again yet.)

Then, I got a new moto droid operating system update a few weeks ago which was downloaded by verizon. Also started getting several new app updates to work with new op system update - but most of them failed to install. I then realized it was because I had moved them to the sdcard using Titanium Backup Pro. So, I tried to use it to move them back - but Ti Backup could not get superuser permissions from my superuser app. The app was in the app tray, appeared to be working etc. but I could not run Ti Backup at all. Also, the new busybox would not install.

So, I just tried downloading your new ver. 6 and re-rooted my Droid. It worked perfectly and then Titanium Back began working again as before.

So for other noobs and idiots like myself - if you get a new operating system update from Verizon you are probably no longer rooted and have to re-root. Also, if you have moved your apps to the sdcard, you probably have to move them back again (you can also do this via "settings - applications - move to phone" option).

The only tiny thing I noticed is, when running the ver. 6 beta, the pop-up window still says ver. 4 beta on the screen. I assume that's just an oversight by teh developer?

Many thanks for a great product. On to overclocking next!

Has anyone had contact with the dev? It seems weird that he was posting replies like crazy, but has dropped off the planet for the last month or so. Or have I missed something? I was going to give it a go, but I don't like how he's gone missing...

I may be wrong, but I think he's a college student. If he is, he's probably been up to his neck in finals for the past few weeks.

Give him a chance, he'll reply.

Very true. He just seemed so proactive even while in school. Figured he would have 2 seconds to post a "I'll be back and reply". I'll be patient and wait it out.

Hmm, I tried both 1.8 + 2.06 beta, no love on my droid w/ 2.2.1

Guess I will try again after the holidays. Just afraid rooting this darn thing will brick it, & currently I can't afford a phone, I will be forced back down to my old enV. *shudders*

Anyone having a problem with "non 7-zip archive" showing up when trying to run this file? If so, how do you get around it?

Hey guys im in a bind im visiting my dad who i gave my motorola droid running froyo rooted a while ago. he said his wirless teather stopped working so i just figured he maybe needed a newer version pre 13 or 14 or something he was using 9 i think. ANYWAYS push come to shove he is not rooted. barnical doesnt work nothing gets superuser rights. but now for the wierd thing he still has the super user app in his drawer.. its like he is stuck half way between rooted and non rooted. I have tried to run soup or root (the original way i rooted the phone) which i love by the way exelent job. but it doesnt do anything it runs ots ordeal but then never reboots.

I'm guessing that your dad installed the FRG83D update which removed his root access. This process should work though you may have to run it several times. Some people seem to need a couple of times running it before it takes (don't know why).

You can also get root through the below method which is what Soup to Root does using a script to automate the below process:

I have tried it numerous times with no sucsess. it never reboots after I run it. So I try to manually reboot but cabt cause I'm not rooted lol.

Try v 1.8 that might work better for you. I have tried the beta versions in the past with no success but 1.8 has always worked or you can follow the original instructions that OMJ wrote instead.

Does anyone have a link to the Soup or Root download? The links in the OP are dead.

If anyone could send me the file, please PM me. TIA.

I just sent a text off to RDK to let him know the links are dead. He just recently got married and has been VERY busy lately.

If anyone has the file, I can host it on my dropbox account until RDK gets a chance to look at the thread. Please PM me.

my droid a855 has android 2.3.3 installed on it, does the rooting instructions listed in the first post of this thread work on 2.3.3? If not, how do I root it safely? Thanks in advance!!

If you have a Droid 1 (or original droid) and you have 2.3.3 then you are already rooted and do not need this. There is no way to have 2.3.3 on it without being rooted.

I bought the phone off of ebay, where it said this about the phone:

"For sale: One Refurbished Motorola Droid A855 - certified like new replacement....It is currently running gingerbread GPA10, but it can be flashed to any Rom or stock image desired."

I thought it wasn't rooted because there is an app on there that i cannot delete, "News and Weather" that uses data to get the latest news headlines.

If you are correct, and it has been rooted, does that mean I can get droidwall to control what apps uses cell data and which wifi?

I'm not familiar with that app, but if it requires root then yes you can run it.

Also if it has GPA10 then you are definitely rooted. GPA10 is majorly outdated though. I am running GPA15 which runs much better than 10.

10 was the first 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) that Pete did. Since then the community has added a bunch of fixes including one that improves the 3G data connection after a phone call. Mind you if you like 10 and it works for you it is fine (only telling you for FYI). :)

Thanks everyone, my phone evidently was rooted, because DROIDWALL works and has stopped apps from using 3g (I am on pageplus).

NOt sure what GPA10 is, but I am currently happy with my phone, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.

Wow, thanks for all the replies everyone! As stated in the last few posts by my best friend, I first had finals in college and then shortly after got married, became a boy scout master, and got a new job where my busy life then unfurled. I'll spare you all from the boring stuff, but I want you all to know I'm still alive lol!

Go ahead and hit me up with questions, I'll have time to answer them periodically here and there. I may not have as much time as I did but anyone who has gone through college and marriage I hope understands.
