Motorola Photon for Sprint

^Better multi tasking, and probably better multi tasking with less of a battery drain.

Just looking at some clips of dual core phones in action, better browsing experience is a big reason. With the dual core chips come better gpu's so thats always a plus. Maybe games and other things that use the gpu are better.

I know with my PC I didnt jump on the dual core bandwagon until a few years later, in 2008. And I never got on the quad core band wagon. Quad core's are at a point now where its something I want vs. a few years ago.

I think as ppl start doing more with their phones, the benefits of getting dual core will be worth it right now. But I can understand if some folks dont feel they need it right now.

Faster processor would serve a similar function to how it would on a computer. When multi-tasking from internet, to texts, to emails, etc...this will keep the phone from working too hard. There's been debate if it actually helps with battery life, but I'm definitely hoping it helps.

The MAIN thing that is different from the EVO 4G is the internal storage. I remember, prior to the EVO 4G being released, there were rumors going around that it would have more internal storage than it ended up having. It was disappointing that there was only 1gb of internal storage w/ half of that taken up by Sprint's bloatware, but I initially thought it wouldn't be an issue. As time went on, I've more recently run into memory issues because I use Launcher Pro and some other apps that can't be moved to the SD and take up a good amount of memory.

Overall, the only reason I'm strongly considering the Photon 4G is because it adds certain things that I wanted on my EVO, that didn't end up being on the final release build.

More true than you realize.

The Photon is basically a Droid Bionic.

The Bionic was supposed to be Verizon's industry changing, competition crushing super phone...So how did Sprint Score it first? Even worse, the Photon actually has better specs than the Bionic.

Something is amiss here. Why would Motorola take Verizon's flagship phone and drop it on Sprint first.

Either way, good job Sprint.

I think it's somewhat of a cross between the Bionic and the Atrix. Only reason I say that is, the reports I've read were talking about the Bionic having a 1.2 Tegra 3 dual core processor, which I was hoping would be the case with the Photon (but not complaining about the Tegra 2 1.0 dual core by any means).

I do hope that the Photon performs slightly better than the reports I've read about the Atrix vs. other phones.

All-in-all, the Photon still looks to be my #1 choice for upgrade.
 
One thing I noticed is, it doesn't have that cool fringerprint identifier like on the Atrix. I was hoping that it would have that because my cousin has an Atrix and thought it was pretty cool to be able to protect the phone with fingerprint identification. I have that on my laptop and love it!

More likely the Droid Bionic will switch from the Tegra line back to Texas Instruments, and their OMAP line of CPU's, which is the traditional CPU of the flagship Verizon Droid line.

It could either be the 1Ghz dual core OMAP 4430 mated to a 304MHz PowerVR SGX540 (used in the BB Playbook and LG 3D), or it could be a OMAP 4460 1.5GHz dual core CPU mated to a 384 MHz PowerVR SGX540.

The OMAP 4430 already shows a respectable increase in performance over the Tegra2 in benchmarks, but the difference will probably be meaningless in actual use.

Viber, you seem like you know a lot about the different processors. What's your take on any tweaks motorola might have made in order to gain better performance from the tegra 2 in the photon vs. the atrix?

My frame of reference is from the tweaks made to the thunderbolt that improved performance over the evo, using the same processor.

I don't know of anything specific, but I am inclined to think the Photon benefits from all the experience Motorola gained from working on the Atrix, and early Bionic.

None of the vids of the Photon show any of the lag, and choppiness of the Atrix. Then again, I get the impression the Atrix was rushed out the door to be the first dual core, rather than the best dual core.

There could be hardware tweaks, or it could be this version of Blur is just coded much better so it wont choke the hardware as much.
 
Here's another article stating 1GB RAM, 2GB ROM, 16GB internal storage. I'm so confused.

Motorola Photon 4G Price

If the 16GB internal storage isn't usable to store apps, I don't mind having it, but it doesn't eliminate the possibility of lots of bloatware and running out of memory.
