Anyone using their Evo to tether to pc via USB?

In Boston, I get anywhere from 1-1.5Mbps download with 3G and up to 7Mbps using 4G (although the norm is closer to 4Mbps..seems to be network traffic dependant). I'm using the full version of Easy Tether which seems more reliable/stable than PDA net.
 
Ok so I was having this issue with not being able to tether through usb. All I did was turn on wifi and debugging and I selected usb tethering as the option, instead of disk drive, htc sync, or charge only.

Once I changed these settings I disconnected from my home wireless and my phone automatically connected my computer to the internet.

I am currently using the connection through my phone. I will try and turn off wifi and see if I still have success.

Ok update, my phone was only taking my home wireless and my computer was still technically using it, I shut off my wireless and lost connection. will try other options to see what can be done to fix this issue.
 
You will need to specifically install drivers for the usb tethering option. WHen you go into device manager and look at network hardware (this isn't the term but I am at work now and currently blanking on what the exact terms are), do you see the EVO? Is there an axclamation point inside a yellow circle or triangle (blanking on the shape too LOL). If that is the case, the driver isn't installed properly and you won't be able to actually tether the phone the way you are wanting to before you install the porper drivers. Took me a bit of forum hopping to figure it out but I eventually did. If you can't find those drivers I can take a peek for you when I get home.
 
Yes, i am tethering via PDAnet, to various computers - Thanks to this thread, and the discussion contained within. This forum, and it's poster, Frick'n Rock.

Anyway, i tether whenever i am not happy with the wifi signal strength wherever i happen to be at the moment.

You need to DL the free version of PDANet on your EVO.

On your computer: First Dl this: http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/


Then DL the appropriate version of this:
http://junefabrics.com/android/

make sure your computer downloads the drivers for the EVO, did it automatically for me after I installed HTC Sync.

connect your phone via USB and select just charge.

you may need to go Settings--> Applications--> Development... and set "debugging" as appropriate (cant remember if its on or off)

open PDANet on your phone.

tethers flawlessly using ubuntu natty narwhal OS I think its because their both linux operating systems just plug it in select usb tether from the dropdown connection menu and your good to go
 
I've used the EasyTether Pro because I need to have the capability of connecting to https: sites. It works great!

Considering it's only $9.99 and completely acts like a wireless router, I think it's well worth the money.

PDANet (as last I recall) was something like $25 or something. Is there any substantial benefit to using PDANet over EasyTether?

Easy Tether Lite or Pro only works with USB! Not wireless!

PDA net will work with USB and Bluetooth. (in my tests usb was faster than bluetooth, but bluetooh can view https sites for free)

Only way to get Free WiFI router actions is to root your phone.

Ok, perhaps I used the phrase "wireless router" incorrectly, but basically what I was going at was to say that you don't have to purchase one of those wireless internet things from Sprint which costs another $60/month. I think Easy Tether (or PDANet) are great values for the phone.

Does PDANet Free allow you to access HTTPS sites? If so I guess I should have just gotten the PDANet . . .
 
I connect my HTC EVO 4G to my pc via USB and tether it. I pay for the offical hotspot through Sprint. I have to put my phone in certain windows of my house to get a 4G signal for major downloads, but otherwise I can surf without problems on 3G. I love this phone. I get 8 megs down while in 4G. Did I say I love this phone? I switched from AT&T on a Samsung Jack so you can just imagine how excited I was when it arrived. I love Sprint, HTC, and Android!

Using 3G with Android Version 2.3.3 Gingerbread

Upload Speed 0.12Mbps

Going to try PDANet and see what results I get.

That's nice for 3G - DSL speeds there! Would love to see your 4G tethering.

I use Easytether also with the netbook on my trips & love that the EVO gets charged & I get to the net where airports or hotels charge for wifi.
 
for my first post, i have a question..........

with padnet using bluetooth, would i be able to connect with a samsung galaxy tab?? i'm thinking of getting one,but would like to NOT have to pay for a sprint data plan to use it without wifi.
 
By some act of God I managed to move into the center of a 4G area. My question is, Can someone do me and others a huge favor and run speed tests in 3 and 4G area using the different methods to find the best and fastest methods? I'm getting my EVO 4G on the first and am foaming at the mouth in anticipation... The other thing is that you can post a new main thread and sticky it for everyone to see in one place as opposed to looking over a million pages in fifty posts on a hundred forums, like I do all day...
 
I would encourage you all to try PDA Net if you continue to have trouble with connectivity. I had used it for a few years back in the mid 2000's on my old Treo (Windows XP and Windows Mobile), it worked like a champ (on Sprint).

I tried awhile back to tether my laptop to my EVO4G, but could not get it to work without PDA Net, although I know some of you are able to get it to work.

PDA Net is FREE. Am using it right now (tethering an x64 laptop to an EVO4G), and the bit about not working with secure sites? I don't believe it, as, I've been hitting secure sites using the free version of pdanet, those sites opened right up, no problems.
